Netflix question - can we clear this up once and for all?

So, a friend of mine is convinced there is some way of grabbing the NETFLIX SD streams without the use of a hardware setup. Basically, is there ANY way of grabbing anything from Netflix with some kind of stream ripper - IDM, ffmpeg, or anything like that? Or is the only way to get anything from netflix (HD or SD) is to use some kind of hardware setup (hdmi, hdcp stripper, capture card, etc)

Legacy ios device, on legacy ios firmware. Jailbroken with UVD app will grab 480p streams last i checked a few months back.
No HD

One positive to all this is this. For anime fans. You can just rip the English audio streams from Netflix and mux them into a Blu-ray encode and now you have yourself a high quality video version of an anime that would otherwise have no English dub. Otherwise the method is useless. I will say this. I think it's BS that Netflix cut off people with first gen iPads. I gave my mother my first gen and she loved watching Netflix on it even though it was standard definition. Way to fuck your customer base Netflix. You suck.

I might have to retract my previous statement. I just found a brand new standard definition Netflix rip posted today. It was not a capture and the resolution was 480p. Can anyone confirm if the ios method is working once again?
