Help with AZW3 deDRMing

Have been happily removing DRM from my Amazon purchases using Calibre plug-ins v.4.7. Many, many thanks to the creators of those wonderful tools!

Recently purchased some books in AZW3 format. Calibre reports unable to remove DRM. Calibre continues to function well with all other conversions/DRM removal.

Is there something I can do to correct this issue? Something relatively simple?

Thanks.

Re: Help with AZW3 deDRMing

The problem seems to be with the most recent Kindle for PC app from Amazon. Install 1.4.1 and the problem goes away. (be sure to turn off the program's auto update feature right away though).

Make sure to use the latest version of the tools (right now it is 5.1).

If you can't remove DRM using the Calibre plug-in, try to use standalone tools (they will require you to install Python 2.7 32 bit and PyCrypto for Python 2.7). The standalone tool works fine for me with Kindle for PC 1.10.

OK. Lets be perfectly clear here. Converting from AZW3 in Calibre doesn't work. Not using the 5.1 tools and the newest release of Calibre. It just doesn't. Those saying it does must be converting outside of Calibre or mistakenly giving instructions for converting AZW files.

I'm sorry, but you can DRM AZW3 files using Calibre. Make sure you have the latest version of both (5.1 of the python DRM tools and Calibre 0.8.66). I was having trouble as well, but after installing the 5.1 DRM plugin, I was able to successfully import and view AZW3 files with Calibre.

Re: Help with AZW3 deDRMing

The AZW3 and AZW4 are the new different formats. As usual, they are protected by DRM. AZW3 also called KF8 has a fixed layout. The 4th Kindle devices with firmware v4.1.0 or later, Kindle for PC and Kindle for Mac can recognize it.
