Can't record any RTMPE streams with Jaksta. Deceiving info on the web-site?

I can't record any RTMPE streams with Jaksta.

I've tried to record from MySpace, Hulu (and fancast recommended by them), but still no luck.

Every time I try to record RTMPE video with it, it say that the stream is RTMP/RTMPE and that gives an error recording encrypted stream.

Am I the only one having this trouble? Am I just retarded?

Here what Jaksta web-sites says:
Quote:
Jaksta can capture all common streaming media protocols including progressive HTTP, RTSP (Microsoft and QuickTime), RTMP, RTMPE, ICECAST, ASF and Flash Games and Flash Presentations
And the web-site that they claim to support

While as I mentioned before I can't download from the highlighted ones, because Jaksta doesn't start recording at all or says something about encryption

Re: Can't record any RTMPE streams with Jaksta. Deceiving info on the web-site?

From FAQ of Jaksta:
Quote:
Encrypted Real Time Messaging Protocol (RTMPE) is an encrypted version of RTMP. Many internet commentators believe that RTMPE is a Digital Rights Management Technology - infact it is not and Adobe say so as well. However see SWF Verification.

RTMPE was release with Adobe Flash Media Server 3 in 2008. Uptake has been slow but several sites are now starting to stream using this protocol. The main reason uptake of this protocol has been slow is that 15% more processing power is required to stream in RTMPE when compare to RTMP.

Jaksta can detect RTMPE streams and will download them if a supported playlist is detected. As the detected stream is encrypted Jaksta can not identify which stream in the playlist you are actually watching, so all streams in the playlist will be downloaded. Playlists normally contain multiple streams - each one is typically a different resolution. Its up to you which one(s) you would like to continue recording or cancel.
So "Jaksta can detect RTMPE streams and will download them if a supported playlist is detected". I haven't met any streams where Jaksta was able to detect a supported playlist. This is probably controversial... but if I were a developer of Jaksta, I would remove all mentioning of RTMPE support.

Re: Can't record any RTMPE streams with Jaksta. Deceiving info on the web-site?

Hi,

The information is not intentionally deceiving but requires some more explanation which is available in the FAQ section of the website. Perhaps I will provide a link directly to them.

In anycase:

The FAQ's and support links state that Jaksta can not be used to bypass copy protection mechanisms. Note that RTMPE is not a copy protection mechanism but SWF Verification is. SWF Verification is most often used with RTMPE. See below for the progress log of Jaksta attempting and RTMPE stream and then failing on SWF Verification as it must to remain DMCA compliant.

I have not yet updated Jaksta to support myspaces new playlist format (mRSS), but in anycase the streams using RTMPE are protected with SWF Verification. There are still alot of streams on myspace that dont use RTMPE/SWF Verification that Jaksta can download.

As for Hulu and fancast the link states that support for Hulu was withdrawn back early last year when all their streams started using copy protection (SWF Verification). Fancast aggregates shows from many sites including Hulu. Again some shows on fancast use standard RTMP and can be download by Jaksta. The reason for the link is that I get a 100 support requests aday asking about Hulu each time I have taken it down. With it up I only get about 5.

Code:
Sending RTMPE Handshake Request...
Waiting on RTMPE Handshake Response ...
Received RTMPE Handshake Response ...
Sending RTMPE Handshake Complete ...
Sending RTMPE Connect ...
Waiting for RTMPE connection response from the server ...
Processing RTMPE connection response from the server ...
Now successfully connected ...
Sending createStream ...
Sending play ...
Sending Ping ...
Downloading (RTMPE) - 287 B
Downloading (RTMPE) - 623 B
*** RTMP with Copy Protection (SWF Verification) detected. It is not possible to record this stream legally. ***
Fixing file ...
I hope that clears it up.

You can always email me at support@jaksta.com if you have any questions or issues as I only check this forum every once and a while.

crs: SWF Verification is not a copy protection mechanism. Nor is it an effective technological measure of any kind really. The only thing it is effective at is wasting CPU cycles and electricity. (But then again, that's true of "real DRM" too...)

An "effective copy protection mechanism" is one that effectively limits how many copies can be made. SWFs are freely distributed on web servers; they are copied limitlessly, without any restrictions, in the normal course of their use. Adobe is blowing smoke when they claim SWF Verification has any pertinence to the DMCA.

What is SWF Verification? Can I save/record streams protected with SWF verification?
Secure RTMPE protocol. Is it really secure???
