can't play hdtv.avi-fqm files on set top box

i have a set top dvd recorder that plays my old avi files, i have some new avi files, but when i burn them as data files in Nero, they won't play on the recorder, they play in the VLC player.

the only thing i see different is the ending of the files. they have a name+hdtv.avi-fqm or .hdtv.xvid-fqm or hdtv avi at the end , could this be the problem?

Thanks for any info you can give me on this ,or where to get help. xbill

fqm is just a nick of a person or the name of the team releasing videos.

you should read a manual of you set top box and see what kind of video resolution it supports. Most probably your DVD player can't play HDTV videos because their resolution is higher than used in DVDs (720x568).

You can try to download videos with smaller resolution. You may also recompress videos so that they fullfil all requirements needed for your DVD player. Or you can get a better set top box
