Download video from internet to computer - .smil file?
I'd like to download the video from this link
http://www.thirteen.org/dutchny/video/video-dutch-new-york/34/
I use firefox's flashgot addon, but it seems the video is a .smil which I'm guessing means it's being streamed to my computer. I can't view it with quicktime, as i'd like it to be in a format such as avi. Is there any way to download this stream to my mac?

thirteen.org RTMP streams. RTMP Flash stream recorders (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/record-streaming-video-Adobe-Flash-FLV-videos.htm) for Windows can download both RTMP and HTTP streams. You can use download/capture videos automatically with Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-HTTP-RTMP-FLV-MP3-ripper-recorder.htm) (RMC), WM Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/WMRecorder-One-click-online-audio-video-stream-recorder.htm) and Jaksta (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Jaksta-Streaming-Media%20Recorder-and-Converter.htm). Jaksta allows you to capture packet from flash player, so you can record and watch at the same time without creating separate threads for watching and downloading.
If you don't want to use commercial software like RMC and Jaksta, you can try freeware Orbit Downloader (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Download-manager-Orbit-Downloader-Record-HTTP-MMS-RTSP-RTMP-media-streams-Freeware.htm), CooJah + Blader (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Blader-freeware-RTMP-downloader.htm), TubeMaster++ (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/TubeMaster-freeware-open-source-stream-recorder-with-RTMP-support-Windows-Linux-MacOS.htm), rtmpdump (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/rtmpdump-freeware-console-RTMP-downloading-application.htm).
Note that unless you use software that allows to capture packets from Flash player, you need to stop playing video after its URL was detected by a stream recorder (after you start downloading your video). Otherwise you may get an error downloading.

The problem is that you use Mac OS. TubeMaster++ (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/TubeMaster-freeware-open-source-stream-recorder-with-RTMP-support-Windows-Linux-MacOS.htm) for Mac OS is under development.
You can use command line tool rtmpdump (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/rtmpdump-freeware-console-RTMP-downloading-application.htm), but not sure whether you will be able to find RTMP URLs to use with it.
Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-HTTP-RTMP-FLV-MP3-ripper-recorder.htm) works in Ubuntu Linux with WINE emulator, so it should work in Mac OS with Darwine.

And you can always use screen video capture software (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-from-screen/) to record any video you see on your screen.

Jaksta for Mac (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Jaksta-for-Mac-streaming-media-recorder-and-converter.htm) allows to download RTMP video streams.
