In mode "Rec Off" TubeDigger (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/TubeDigger-streaming-audio-video-downloader-recorder-Adobe-Flash-Player-streaming-HTTP-RTMP-RTMPE.htm) downloads media file separately from what is playing in the web page area, in mode "Rec On" TubeDigger records media stream (NOT screen grabbing) that is currently playing in the web page area - useful for recording live streams. For popular live streaming sites (justin.tv, ustream.tv, famous adult cams, etc) mode "Rec On" is automatically selected to simplify usage.
Also last versions support live downloads in "Rec Mode".

TubeDigger (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/TubeDigger-streaming-audio-video-downloader-recorder-Adobe-Flash-Player-streaming-HTTP-RTMP-RTMPE.htm) 1.4.1 d/l from ur site works really well.
The Rec On/Rec Off is confusing. Seems to need a status indicator. I had to guess that if the "Rec On" button is available, I'm in "Rec Off" mode. I may even be wrong about that.
At this point TubeDigger, don't change much. I'm afraid you'll fall victim to feature creep and the UI will become worse and the program will suffer.
Don't go nuts with converting options. What you have is fine. Quality looks good. I use CL FFMpeg myself.
Give me some time to see if this stays working as sites become aware of it. If it keeps working I'm a buyer.
Great job!

Thank you for your feedback!
Regarding "Rec On/Off" - I was thinking very long time how to make it more user-friendly and decided to make it as "flat button-style" checkbox. If you see "Rec Off" - TubeDigger is in downloading mode, if you see "Rec On" - in recording mode.

Ah OK got it. I was 180 degrees wrong then.
When I removed whatever was the default skin to no skin it became apparent 3-D visually.
The button is either depressed, "Rec On" or not depressed "Rec Off."
PS: I'm almost certain I've seen audio utilities, like mixers or players, that change an icon when a button was depressed. When "Rec On" is enabled, the icon changes to bright red. Everyone seems to know a red light means "recording." Try that.

Unfortunately TubeDigger (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/TubeDigger-streaming-audio-video-downloader-recorder-Adobe-Flash-Player-streaming-HTTP-RTMP-RTMPE.htm) no longer records live UStream. It does automatically select "Rec on" but it just records 5 - 30 KB of "live_1.flv" then switches to "done" and stops.

Hello.
I used a trial version of TubeDigger (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/TubeDigger-streaming-audio-video-downloader-recorder-Adobe-Flash-Player-streaming-HTTP-RTMP-RTMPE.htm). I like the interface. Easy-to-use.
Unfortunately, it didn't work to capture FLV (RTMP, unprotected) from a music site that uses a pop-up window for its player. Does TubeDigger only monitor one window at a time? Can this feature be added? It would be valuable!
I would like to purchase a license to TubeDigger but this is currently a roadblock. I think GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) solves this problem by opening pop-ups in additional tabs then monitoring the new tab.
Thanks,

It is known problem with these pop-up windows and even worse - they are opening in separate process of Internet Explorer and intercepting their URLs is not easy task. TubeDigger (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/TubeDigger-streaming-audio-video-downloader-recorder-Adobe-Flash-Player-streaming-HTTP-RTMP-RTMPE.htm) has embedded Internet Explorer and monitors only it. TubeDigger is not monitoring other applications. There is one workaround with pop-up windows: right-click on pop-up's background, select properties, copy URL of this pop-up and paste it into TubeDigger. Actually, there is almost no need to have tabs. If you want to open something like "new tab" - just open new instance of TubeDigger.
Please also provide link to this music site with pop-ups.

I purchased TubeDigger (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/TubeDigger-streaming-audio-video-downloader-recorder-Adobe-Flash-Player-streaming-HTTP-RTMP-RTMPE.htm) today and am now a registered user!
Please see my review below.
Review:
Overall: Tube Digger is a slick, elegant solution to recording HTTP and RTMP(E) streams that works with many popular sites. It also offers intelligent, guided conversion to many popular containers and codecs.
Interface: Minimalist, well-organized and efficient. With the URL entry at the top you can either go to a page or drag a shortcut directly into the bar. The site is presented in the center. At the bottom, the now familiar list of detected streams with protocol, URL and mouseover tips. Below that, buttons for Convert, Settings, Video Folder and About. There are no menus! I actually quite like this. Clean interface design and does what I need it to. Themes through msstyles.
Downloading: Tested at several video sites, all listed on TubeDigger's homepage. Has worked flawlessly. It gives me the information I need quickly to determine the quality of the stream I want to record.
VideoCap: Works well although I have only used this once as a test. Turn "Rec On" and record live streams.
License: $24.95 for the current version and lifetime updates. Of note, there is some strange thing listed in the FAQ about being able to verify the key 5 times on the same computer or 5 different computers every 12 months. This is a strange restriction with no indication in the app what my status is (i.e. how many verifications have I already done?). Why not tie the key to an email address or user name and if both pieces of info match when verifying out to the web then OK? This is a difficult and burdensome requirement for someone who is frequently upgrading or changing their OS.
Comparison: GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) is TubeDigger (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/TubeDigger-streaming-audio-video-downloader-recorder-Adobe-Flash-Player-streaming-HTTP-RTMP-RTMPE.htm)'s main competitor right now. I do not consider RTMPdump (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/rtmpdump-freeware-console-RTMP-downloading-application.htm) a competitor because it is open source, free and command line--an amazing program, too! I tried both TubeDigger and GetFLV before purchasing TubeDigger. I found GetFLV's interface to be cluttered and confusing. I didn't like that I had to click around the different sections on the left to view my downloads, convert, fix, etc. Everything should be visible in the main screen or pop-up as it is in TubeDigger. Also, I found that GetFLV suffered from more frequent stops requiring a restart while downloading than TubeDigger. TubeDigger has better and more lean conversion options than GetFLV that output playable video. GetFLV is very reliant on the version of Flash that you have installed. Apparently, according to the developer, TubeDigger is not. Finally, GetFLV is more expensive at $59.95 for the current version and one year of updates or $159.95 (!!!) for lifetime. Really GetFLV?
Wishlist: As TubeDigger continues to improve with frequent updates, there are several features which would make it better.
1) A built-in way to join video segments together to make an episode for download sites like Via*** that present video in segments and acts.
2) A button in the line-by-line stream window at the bottom that quickly lets me Clear All Inactive. I have auto-start downloading OFF until I determine the right stream quality to download so a Clear All Inactive would be great after I initiate my listed downloads. I could move more quickly to the next recording.
3) Support for downloading from sites that have pop-up players like Nap**** and Rhap****
Summary: A competent program that does what it is supposed to do at a great price! Well worth it.
Cheers,
heyadam

The philosophy of TubeDigger is NOT to bind to any customer's information as hardware, email, etc and allow registration on multiple computers. Emails confirmation is too annoying and hardware changes can be too often. Five times of Windows reinstallation per year it seems to be rare - if you'll overuse such quota, please contact support. You can read more about TubeDigger's licensing from its EULA.

hey adam, thx for the excellent review. placebo => lazy, no time, ignorant => that's why i dont write TubeDigger (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/TubeDigger-streaming-audio-video-downloader-recorder-Adobe-Flash-Player-streaming-HTTP-RTMP-RTMPE.htm) /GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) review. I own and use both products. I dont know why but of all SRF noteworthy tools (see their abbreviations) (http://stream-recorder.com/forum/showthread.php?p=26460) typically i launch GFLV first to see how it performs. If it fails, then i would try TD. And if both have failed, i would post a thread for help in the RTMPDump forum section .. because RTMPdump (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/rtmpdump-freeware-console-RTMP-downloading-application.htm) (and RTMPexplorer (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/RTMPExplorer-freeware-GUI-for-rtmpsrv-Windows.htm), rtmpsusk) are too difficult :D. StreamTransport (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/StreamTransport-Download-HTTP-RTMP-RTMPE-streams.htm) and CooJah + Blader (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Blader-freeware-RTMP-downloader.htm) still do a great job on older websites .. but before i'd use them, i'd rather ask the developers of GFLV and TD for support of the streaming website in question.
3) Support for downloading from sites that have pop-up players like Nap**** and Rhap****
Nothing has changed about Nap****. It is still possible to undrm the 192kbps WMA's with a Nap**** To Go beggar subscription (confirmed by me). Nothing has changed about Rhap****. It is still possible to undrm the 160kbps WMA's with a Rhap**** Unlimited subscription (not confirmed by me (yet) because i am not interested in 160kbps low bitrate music). The Rhap**** popup player streams *.rad files thru the http protocol, in low quality (128kbps). There's nothing GFLV or TD could do here for you, sorry. Let's also mention Z***. Some things have changed about Z***. It is not possible anymore to undrm the 192kbps WMA's with a Z*** Music Pass for the Microsoft Z*** Pass Marketplace (this is 99.9% confirmed by me thanks to the power of the indvpage (http://stream-recorder.com/forum/showthread.php?p=30133)); catching the webplayer 128kbps WMA (http://stream-recorder.com/forum/showthread.php?p=21282)'s is easy but they cant be undrm'ed either, logically.
Yes, the Nap**** 128kbps mp3 streams are sweet (RMC (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-download-and-capture-streaming-music-radio-video.htm) catches them easily!), so you're probably not on the US$14.95 tier but on the ~4.95$/month subscription.

I don't know where else to post this. I have been using TubeDigger (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/TubeDigger-streaming-audio-video-downloader-recorder-Adobe-Flash-Player-streaming-HTTP-RTMP-RTMPE.htm) very successfully and am running 1.5.4. Yesterday I downloaded 6 episodes of a UK Channel 5 series without any problems. Today, I tried to continue, but the program crashes (just disappears) before the main file after the adverts begins. Have tried this on two separate machines. Uninstalled and reinstalled TD. Other websites like BBC, iTV are okay. It seems to be a Channel 5 thing. Any ideas?
Otherwise, it's a fantastic program, well worth $25!

Hello another new registered TubeDigger user here. Been extremely happy with your software.
One thing I've tried to do is visit tvland.com. The wife loves Hot in Cleveland.

Any ideas?

Hi
Suggestion : Could the converter screen be made to be hidden?
It seems to be always-on-top , and in the way if the user is trying to dl other files at the same time.
The progress of conversion could be shown in the status columns - Downloading - Done - Converting.
I was downloading some small files and still trying to see the address bar at the top , but the conversion screen was always in the way. Maybe also it could be made to auto-close when it has finished converting.
What do you think?
I'm new to the program so pelase forgive me if I'm asking something obvious.

hi
Ok thanks for you prompt and helpful reply.
I think a ‘convert in the background’ switch in the option panel would be brilliant.
I’ve already set my codec options in the convert panel. I always want it to convert my files according to the options I've set so it’s hard to see why it would need to keep opening.
I could open the interface itself I needed to. Presently the interface opens automatically for no real purpose , as far as I can see.
If I have several small downloads the interface keeps popping up every time it starts download and every time it finishes one. All I will do is to close it again , as I don't need it to open.
I have 10 small files downloading , and I want them all to be converted I just don't need a popup each time one starts converting and each time one finishes. I just need it to get on with the converting without me having to make 10 close interface when it starts , and 10 more when it finishes. After a very short time this could become tiresome.
Just my impressions.

How about putting checkbox 'Hide window when converting' on converting dialog? And do you need to know when all your downloaded files become converted when this window is hidden?

Hi
Thanks very much for getting back.
Yes , a 'Hide Window When Converting' check box on the conversion interface would do the job perfectly.
As long as it was remembered in the program as part of the user settings so that it would always remain ticked.
This would mean that the conversion screen would only open when the user opened it manually from the main interface. As long as the conversion interface doesn't keep popping up all the time. Once I've set the codecs settings I don't need it to open again at all.
Yes it would be helpful to know when downloads were complete somehow , some indication on the main interface. Or I could open the dialog manually to check status I think.
Or , better , the progress column on the main interface could say 'Dowloading' , 'Converting' or 'Done' for each file.
:)

Yes , a 'Hide Window When Converting' check box on the conversion interface would do the job perfectly.
Convert downloads automatically UI functionality was slightly modified in version 2.1.4:
- converting dialog is shown only after start of first downloaded file and after finish of all downloaded files
- for converting profiles without transcoding and audio converting, converting dialog is shown only once after first downloaded file because such converting is enough fast (less than 30 seconds)
- decided not to implement 'Hide Window When Converting' checkbox because there are already enough settings and always hiding converting dialog may confuse users why CPU usage is high, but no action is shown.

Hi
Newly registered user here. Have the full paid version of Tubedigger. Very happy with it so far.
Problem today downloading from a site. I had to pay for a stream from the site. Can watch the stream live on the site but when input into tubedigger it only records about 6 mins of it.
The stream is about an hour long. when it buffers it seems to freeze.
The stream requires a user name and password as proof of payment. But i start it through tubedigger and enter this information and it seems to start off ok.
Any ideas?

Did you try to record this stream in "Rec Mode"?
You may also send PM with URL of this stream together with login/psw for testing.

Same exact problem as rustbucket. Download mode.
PM sent.
This problem is different as in case of rustbucket. It seems to be a case of DRM protection - video is streamed via 1.7 MB chunks and with strange header. Replacing this header with regular FLV header doesn't help - VLC cannot render such file - type of audio and video cannot be determined.

Hello everyone. I thought I would provide some updates to my review six months later.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
http://stream-recorder.com/forum/showpost.php?p=32363&postcount=23
UPDATES:
Overall: TubeDigger continues to be the best, MVP application for downloading HTTP and RTMP(E)!
Bullet Points:
--The conversion features built-in have taken over for my standalone conversion program AVS Video Converter because they are faster, well-organized and just right for what I want to accomplish. NOTE: I use AVI4CCChanger to change the 4CHAR from DX50 to XVID for a stubborn media player out there.
--Support has been excellent via this board and PM. TubeDigger is very responsive. Thanks!
--Features have been added at a very rapid pace. New sites, subtitle download, additional bitrate detection have all been improved since my last review.
--Having the addition of RECording mode over Download mode makes TubeDigger compatible with more sites.
--For $25 lifetime updates TubeDigger can't be beat!
--Comparatively, GetFLV is much more expensive, slow and is tied to the version of Flash that one has installed.
From my last review, support for Rhap**** and other music sites have been fine-tuned. Registration method remains the same. I use AVS Remaker to join video segments together. Pop-up and login sites work more reliably now, too.
TubeDigger is gaining in popularity as I am starting to see it discussed on 9Down and AfterDawn. Congrats TubeDigger!

heyadam

I'd give it a 9 because it works well when it does work. I haven't tried all sites but it works well with 4oD videos, no fuck ups or nothing in the recordings. The trial version is slow (and buggy-ish for me) but as soon as you put a legit key in there it transforms it

Actually, TubeDigger does not depend on version of Flash Player - it simply uses embedded Internet Explorer - please open _http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ in your Internet Explorer and follow on-screen instructions. If still no luck - please provide URL for that video.

Hi
- Question - where is the best place to post general queries etc about Tubedigger?
It seems useful if they are all together but it doesn't make much sense tagging new issues onto the back of existing ones.
What do peple think? Perhaps a new sub forum if that's possible?

These episodes are streamed via F4F protocol with DRM protection. Possibly new versions of TubeDigger will support such streams.

I think I may have found a bug in the latest version (happened in previous versions as well). If I leave a Tubedigger window open (minimized) for a long period of time with no activity and then exit the program by right clicking on the icon, the Tubedigger.exe doesn't die and instead remains active with 99% CPU usage for a long while before eventually dying (several minutes later). Any idea what might cause this?

The problem is not in TubeDigger but in embedded Internet Explorer that TubeDigger uses. Chaturbate.com uses heavy JavaScript and Internet Explorer cannot process it properly, therefore situation "A script on this page is causing your web browser to run slowly" occurs.

I downloaded the trial i've had a few issues. one is that there are some videos from amazon prime that are unplayable they seem to download ok but they wont playback i've downloaded others from amazon that are playable but a few that are not I believe the ones that wouldnt playback are using a new version of flash. My other issue is that I cant seem to download the 720p episodes from teamcoco.com it always wants to download the 480p.

Hi TubeDigger.
The attached PNG shows the warning that TubeDigger receives when I go to YouTube. I am not sure but I believe the embedded version of IE in TubeDigger may need to be upgraded or send a different User Agent in order to be compatible in the near future.
I believe other sites will also be ending support for IE7.
Just a heads up,

Is tubedigger even still around? I go to the website, and it is a 404. I have no way to get an update (I have a license).
If they are no longer around, what is the best rtmpe capture program nowadays? Tubedigger seemed to be the best and easiest solution.
I also own the wmrecorder bundle.
I used to use replay media capture 3.11, but i heard the 4.xx series had all kinds of issues, ntm it does not capture rtmpe
Is getFLV now the best, easiest, most comprehensive solution?

I have a question, does "detect all resolutions/bitrates of video" and "adjust converting quality automatically" happen when the video finishes? Or does it make adjustments when I actually convert/fix them with the convert button?

Great program. I've found that it will often download video where many other programs fail. One issue that I've run into though is if a .flv download is over 4gb then the final file will not save correctly.
I may be answering my own question, having been tinkering with aspects of the settings this afternoon - but is there any way of starting a download mid-way through so I can then join the two sections together with avidemux or somesuch?
One time I downloaded the 4gb+ file it seemed to start mid-way through and I stupidly deleted the file, thinking it to be corrupt when I could have used the above method, but I wasn't thinking along those lines, and try as I might - I can't replicate the situation again to snare the "second half" of the file.
Thanks in advance.

I tested TubeDigger a few months ago. It worked perfectly fine, the only thing that bothered me was that there was no address bar history, like a real browser has. There were several live broadcasts and certain webcams I frequently wanted to record and I had to keep the urls in a text file and copy/paste the urls into TubeDigger. For many people it might be handy if the textbox gets changed to a combobox. Then save the last 20 or so urls that are copied/pasted into TubeDigger and reload them again at program start. This way previously visited websites can be easily visited again by selecting them from the dropdown list. Just a suggestion.

How about privacy - maybe someone won't want TubeDigger to keep history of URLs in registry? Probably new checkbox "Use address bar with history" should be added to settings dialog and should be disabled by default. Is such solution fine?

Few nights ago I have tested newest GetFLV 9.2.1.9 and compare it to TubeDigger when it is recording of a live streams about. Guess who won !
Even GetFLV has option to use several tabs at the same time (comparing to TD which does not have this option) in most cases of recording of a live streams in GetFLV you have to stay in tab where the video is playing. Otherwise, recording stops. In most of the cases, when I tried to record those live streams using TD you don't need to stay in window where from you are recording at all. TD will anyway record your video ! This is great if you want to watch something different than the videos streams you are recording in the same time.
Comparing some other things that TD can to do and especially price of the products, updates and support TubeDigger is far better solution than GetFLV !
