View Full Version : Are there any free Daniusoft-style re-recorders out there?

I have an audiobook that my music player can't play because of some tricky DRM in the files, so I've been researching various solutions. Daniusoft's DRM Converter (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/Daniusoft-Digital-Media-Converter-Convert-copy-protected-WMA-WMV-M4A-M4V.htm) looks good to me, but a sudden expense has completely wiped out my savings so I can't really spare the $40 for it right now. Are there any free utilities that do more or less the same thing? Yes, I know that it's possible to re-record audio with Audacity, but I don't want to have to record every segment of the book manually - I'm looking for an automated process that I can start at night that'll be done in the morning. I'm also not thrilled by the idea of wasting time and CDs by burning the audio to a disc and then ripping it back.

Daniusoft uses spam to promote its software. Want to support spammers and get more spam? Then buy software from them.

For QuickTime files you can use freeware Requiem (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/Requiem-freeware-Mac-and-PC-DRM-remover-for-iTunes-files.htm). Again it works much better than re-recording from sound card. It won't work with rental audiobooks, but you shouldn't abuse rental licenses anyway.

If you use Windows XP, you can try to use freeware FairUse4WM (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/FairUse4WM-freeware-DRM-removal-Windows-software-Strip-copy-protection-from-WMV-ASF-WMA-Windows-Media-Player.htm) for removing DRM protection. It is not re-recording from your sound card, it is much better.

Yeah, I'm not thrilled by how Daniusoft software is marketed, but Soundtaxi (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/SoundTaxi-Convert-DRM-protected-music-from-Windows-Media-Player-iTunes-Napster-Yahoo-Music-Rhapsody.htm), Tunebite (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/TuneBite-Convert-DRM-protected-WMV-M4P-M4V-video-WMA-AAC-M4B-AA-music-audio-books-preserving-ID3-tags.htm) and etc. all seem just as sleezy. If you had to use one of those programs (and if there really is no free software that works in a similar way) then which would you choose? If one of those software suites is better than the others for ethical or practical reasons then I'd love to hear why.

I don't have the right system environments to run either FairUse4WM or Requiem right now, and I'm looking for a more general-purpose solution anyway. I don't mind that re-recording is lossy; I'm just planning to use this for audiobooks so as long as I can still understand what the narrator is saying, that's good enough.

Personally I prefer to use lossless DRM removal software (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/). I just don't want to lose neither quality, nor time.

Lossy DRM removal tools (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/) are discussed in the following thread:
Lossy DRM removal software: SoundTaxi, Tunebite, NoteBurner, freeTunes, MuvAudio
