Is there anything on Linux that can record streaming audio, like live radio, and that has a scheduler? Am interested in capturing a couple of talk shows that I cannot listen to when they are aired. They also do not archive their shows, yet at least.

Anything like this for Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala?

You can try to schedule recording with freeware VLC player.

Are there any better alternatives???

p.s. I use Replay AV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-AV-capture-Streaming-Video-Audio-Radio-Shows-Online-TV-Broadcasts-Video-Clips-Audio-Archives-Podcasts-Free-to-try.htm) to schedule some recordings including XM radio. I run it under Wine emulator.

Replay AV allows to get XM Radio stream without losing any quality. As for other streams it can record them from your sound card, as well as download some of them. Linux with Wine might not be a perfect solution, but I haven't found anything better than that.

p.p.s. It is very important to know the stream format and protocol before suggesting streaming media recorders (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/all-streaming-video-recording-software.htm).
