Unfortunately I haven't found any details about the stream Sling Media uses.

Of course you may use the Screen capture software (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/screen-capture-software.htm) to record any screen activity, but I don't really like the idea of recording on a remote computer.

I suggest you to visit slingcommunity.com (http://www.slingcommunity.com/) and ask other users.

And I also suggest you to keep bugging Sling Media so that they include the recording feature to the SlingBox

p.s. For those of you who know nothing about the SlingBox, it will be interesting to read the following article: Slingbox Lets Viewer Watch TV on the Go (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051110/ap_on_hi_te/tech_test_slingbox).
You may also wanna visit the SlingBox section (http://www.slingmedia.com/slingbox/) of Sling Media web-site.

Due to the trademark complain, Slingbox recording software Replay SlingCorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-SlingCorder-Capture-Record-Save-video-streaming-from-SlingBox.htm) has been renamed to At-Large Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/At-Large-Recorder-Capture-Record-Save-video-streaming-from-SlingBox.htm). The links will be updated shortly. Thank you for understanding.

The good news is that At-Large Recorder can work as an add-on to the Replay A/V (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-AV-capture-Streaming-Video-Audio-Radio-Shows-Online-TV-Broadcasts-Video-Clips-Audio-Archives-Podcasts-Free-to-try.htm) stream recording/capturing software. Besides At-Large Recorder comes free when purchasing the Replay A/V.

This also means that you may get At-Large Recorder as a part of Audio Video Streaming Capture Suite (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/AV-stream-capture-bundle-Audio-Video-Streaming-Capture-Suite.htm) that gives you unmatched power to record a wide variety of streaming video and audio. You can get a great deal when ordering as a bundle.

Important News (8/22/06): SlingPlayer v 1.3.0.176 , will NOT work with At-Large Recorder due to Sling's decision to add encryption to the stream. You must use a previous version of SlingPlayer with At-Large Recorder. You can install the player from your Slingbox product CD.

I am using an older version of SlingPlayer as mentioned above (version 1.0.5.127) and Replay A/V (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-AV-capture-Streaming-Video-Audio-Radio-Shows-Online-TV-Broadcasts-Video-Clips-Audio-Archives-Podcasts-Free-to-try.htm). I keep getting a window recommending that I upgrade my SlingPlayer version. I live in Norway, and the times I usually record are usually the times I like to sleep (9pm EST is 3am in Norway). If this update window pops up before the recording time, the recording does not happen. Does anyone know how to solve this?

Also, does anyone else have problems with the WMA files produced by Replay A/V? The recordings of 1 hour programs that I have made are usually 50% ruined by jumpy picture and audio.

Thanks!

Can you tell me how to record the video I am viewing on my Mac that comes from my Slingplayer.

Sling encrypts broadcasted streams. You need a SlingPlayer with a version lower than 1.3.0.176 to record the stream with Replay AV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-AV-capture-Streaming-Video-Audio-Radio-Shows-Online-TV-Broadcasts-Video-Clips-Audio-Archives-Podcasts-Free-to-try.htm) or At-Large Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/At-Large-Recorder-Capture-Record-Save-video-streaming-from-SlingBox.htm) on Windows.

The only solution for Intel Mac I have is to use the above mentioned programs on your Mac running Windows XP with Bootcamp or Parallels Desktop for Max OS X (http://all-streaming-media.com/non-streaming/Parallels-Desktop-for-Mac-OS-X-Run-Windows-simultaneously-with-Mac-OS-X.htm)

At-Large Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/At-Large-Recorder-Capture-Record-Save-video-streaming-from-SlingBox.htm) 2.0 has been released. It supports any version of SlingPlayer software and firmware.

At-Large Recorder 2.0 can bypass the encryption used to foil At-Large Recorder 1.0.

At-Large Recorder 2.0 is no longer a part of Replay AV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-AV-capture-Streaming-Video-Audio-Radio-Shows-Online-TV-Broadcasts-Video-Clips-Audio-Archives-Podcasts-Free-to-try.htm).

You can also use recorder.exe at
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=189342

It a free open source recorder that work on all version of slingbox firmware, also bypass encryption.

And don't use slingbox player to record

It on sourceforge.net , project "slingbox sdk"

Applian record is so old. And expensive.

There's a better free Slingbox recorder. It's called mReplay Live, and you can watch, control, record, edit and share you Slingbox... all in a browser.

It's only in beta, but getting better every day. Just the fact that you can record full durations but also "back in time" recording (last 30 or 60 seconds of what you just saw) with just one click.

mReplay Live is free and allows to record + edit your recordings. Sharing recordings is illegal in many cases, and mReplay users might not be aware of it.

At-Large Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/At-Large-Recorder-Capture-Record-Save-video-streaming-from-SlingBox.htm) can record from Slingbox. And unlike mReplay Live it can schedule your recordings.

Oh goodness.. I had no idea this website was an Applian lovefest forum.

mReplay Live is not illegal, and it's slanderous to suggest it is. It's classic Sony BetaMax, Supreme Court fair use protection, and I would question the entire integrety of this forum when one solution/company is favored over another. People have a right to time shift... and record. Half of Applian's products are designed to circumvent DRM protection and are illegal... so I find it highly ironic, or suspecious that you would write this. It reeks of company influence.

mReplay Live also offers "Back in time" recording... when you are either recording full durations, or are not recording at all, and see something you want to save.... you just click the 30 or 60 second button and it saves the last 30 or 60 seconds of your Slingbox... just like that. It's great for clipping tv or when you see a great sports highlight. How do you do that Applian "At-large"?

Excuse me for not praising mReplay Live and comparing it to At-Large Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/At-Large-Recorder-Capture-Record-Save-video-streaming-from-SlingBox.htm) :D

Dear Jacob, If you do not understand the difference between "Sharing recordings is illegal in many cases" and "mReplay Live is illegal" then I have nothing to add.
Obviously when talking about the legitimacy there is no difference between sharing your TV recordings on p2p web-sites and say sharing them via YouTube with mReplay Live.

Half of Applian's products are designed to circumvent DRM protection and are illegal...
I wish I knew that before... I would have added these products to undrm.info then. By the way I still wonder what Applian's product are designed to circumvent DRM protection? Do they hide something from me? :D

No, why would you, this is an Applian forum, where you push Applian products. Understood. But now it's time for a lesson:

If you think all of TV, everywhere, is copyrighted, then yes, there is no reason to continue this discussion. For example, most of our TV in Europe is not copyrighted, since it comes from TV licensing fees (they tax how many TVs we have). There are channels and programs in the states that carry the same or similar quality as being supported by government taxes, although understandably less so than the rest of the world. For example, it is legal to record a high school football game, or even a program supported by the US government like an Army ad or all of Fox News (kidding).

I use an Applian product that is very clearly breaking several DRMs and laws, and I'm proud of it. But I just don't think you or Applian is in any position to question the legalities of anyone elses products. People should be fighting back to companies (mostly from the states) who are pushing DRM aggressively and preventing fair use.

As you said in your comparison, mReplay Live is in the same legal category as YouTube, as providers of online tools to allow, but who also discourage copyright infringement.

If you wanna think so, I see no problem in that.
However I really think that Applian has a great line of unmatched software products.

How can users distinguish between copyrighted and non-copyrighted TV shows?

You can use a gasoline-powered saw to break the law and to cut trees, it is really up to you. Applian products themself don't break any laws.

You can use direct sound recording software and screen video capture software (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-from-screen/) from Applian to record audio from your sound card or record video from your screen. These products really see no difference between recording DRM protected content and DRM-free content. However there are hundreds of other products besides Applian ones that can do the same.

People should be fighting back to companies (mostly from the states) who are pushing DRM aggressively and preventing fair use.
+1

Please end this ridiculous argument. It is clear that Jacob is here to simply SPAM his product. That's been done now. Thanks, but enough is enough!

I have been coming to this site, off and on, for a longtime and have never felt that Stream Recorder has been anything but fair in what he suggest will do a particular job or handle a posted request. He almost always offers more than Applian products when appropriate and/or when a user indicates they don't work for them.

And, in reality, how this site is run and what tools are suggested or pimped is no ones business. You if don't like it, start your own site!

I tried At-Large Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/At-Large-Recorder-Capture-Record-Save-video-streaming-from-SlingBox.htm) 2 and the quality of the recording was much lower than the live stream in Slingcast (more pixelated).

I then tried Windows Media and Camtasia but got a black screen unless I turned off VBR from within Slingplayer. Then is does work, but turning of VBR definitely makes it look lower quality. Is there anyway to record a Slingplayer stream that appears as good quality as through Slingplayer itself?

Alternatively, is there any way to process the file recorded with VBR turned off so that the pixelation is 'smoothed-out' and the effect of having VBR on is recreated?

At-Large Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/At-Large-Recorder-Capture-Record-Save-video-streaming-from-SlingBox.htm) captures the stream, so I don't really know how the quality could be worse than in Slingcast.

The quality of the recorded stream seems similar to when you disable VBR in Slingbox.

I just assumed that this was some kind of processing to smooth the pixellation. I'd like the be able to record the processed pictures that are displayed onscreen, or play back the recording through some software that will recreate the effect.

At-Large Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/At-Large-Recorder-Capture-Record-Save-video-streaming-from-SlingBox.htm) 2.0 can record from SlingPlayer 2.0 if your Slingbox is correctly setup for remote internet viewing.

Just make sure that your router settings are correct and that you have the latest version firmware for your router installed. After upgrading your SlingPlayer software and Slingbox firmware, make sure that you re-run the SlingPlayer setup wizard and network assistant. Your router settings must be setup successfully for remote viewing in order for At-Large Recorder to work properly.

Don't bother this software results in extremely poor quality capture
