I am enthused follower of the rtmpdump (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/rtmpdump-freeware-console-RTMP-downloading-application.htm) project.
I like the way to download videos with rtmpdump.

Im a windows user and sometimes i must use rtmpsrv for downloading, but the handling of rtmpsrv on Windows is a "a little bit" complicated (editing the Hosts-File and so on).

I solve this problem by created a Programm the "rtmpexplorer".
This is a little internet explorer which routs all rtmp-traffic to the rtmpsrv.
Advantage:
- no search for rtmp server address
- no edit host file

Install:
- Copy the rtmpsrv.exe to the rtmpexplorer.exe
- Copy the rtmpdump.exe to the rtmpexplorer.exe (automatic download)

Usage:
- Start rtmpexplorer.exe
- Browser to your video site
- see how rtmpsrv/rtmpdump start to work

A clarification of the o/p's above explanation -

RTMPexplorer routes all rtmp traffic to rtmpsrv.


Advantages:
- No need to search for the host/server address
- No need to edit the HOST file


Installation:
- Copy rtmpsrv.exe to the same folder as rtmpexplorer.exe
- Copy rtmpdump.exe to the same folder as rtmpexplorer.exe


Usage:
- Start rtmpExplorer.
- Type the URL address of the video site into rtmpExplorer, instead of typing it into your normal browser.
- Click the 'Go' button in rtmpExplorer.
- The download may appear to keep restarting, but actually this seems to be an automatic RESUME function. This adds to the partially downloaded file, it does not overwrite it.


Requirements:
Microsoft's .net Framework 4 (requires WinXP SP3, Vista SP2, or Windows 7, with a 1 GHz processor and 512 MB RAM).



It works for RTMP streams, in tests I ran on a friend's Windows 7 laptop today.

Are you sure you are running the program on a supported Operating System?

This program requires Windows XP Service Pack 3, Windows Vista Service Pack 2, or Windows 7, with a minimum of a 1 GHz processor and 512 MB of RAM, and you must have Microsoft's .NET framework 4 software installed.

If you run the program on an Operating System for which it is designed, it saves the rtmp file automatically, saving it in the directory ("folder") which the program is being run from.

I don't use rtmpdump.exe, since GUI RTMPE recorders for Windows work most of the time. And even when they don't work, I use rtmpsrv and rtmpsuck in Ubuntu, not Windows. rtmpdump 2.3 can be installed from the Ubuntu repository with ease. And a couple of lines allow to compile the latest versions of rtmpdump, rtmpsrv, rtmpsuck in Ubuntu. I haven't seen any success in running rtmpsuck in Windows without using commercial software.

There i have posted a screenshot with rtmpexplorer in action with rtmpe. PLAYME definitely uses rtmpe technology and in the past, StreamTransport (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/StreamTransport-Download-HTTP-RTMP-RTMPE-streams.htm) was able to download them. Not anymore. But GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) and rtmpexplorer can download PLAYME streams.

I have used RTMPexplorer (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/RTMPExplorer-freeware-GUI-for-rtmpsrv-Windows.htm) and it works very well but is it possible to develop a gui where you can enter multiple urls, a sort of batch mode I guess?

It gets a bit long winded entering each url one after the other. If this is too difficult then possibly a bat file that I can edit?

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. Thanks for a great program. After trying various stream softwares unsuccessfuly a month in frustration this one allowed me to download from bigflix, a classic movie not found on dvd and uploaded from an old video cassette convert. The only issue is it fails some initially and a few re-tries gets it going. I want to know how to resume download after it times out. The movie I am downloading timed out twice and it had to be resumed fresh. How can I continue from where it timed out without fresh download?

Post edit: I got the whole DL when my net was faster between late night and early morning. It works best with faster net connection or lesser net traffic. That said I just need to know what code or process allows to resume a stopped download. Thanks.

Could be faulty installment of .Net4. Ensure the version you are isuning is .Net_framework_v4_0_30319. if you have this version try re-installing/repairing. Ensure RTMPexplorer (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/RTMPExplorer-freeware-GUI-for-rtmpsrv-Windows.htm) is in the same folder as RTMPdump (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/rtmpdump-freeware-console-RTMP-downloading-application.htm), rtmpsrv, rtmpgw, rtmpsuck, pmdump, EasyHook.dll, EasyHook32 [or 64 as case maybe for OS].dll and librtmp.dll in C Drive. Use your default web browser to ensure fast sniffing. It should work without hanging up. Windows freeze indicates OS issue or problematic software install. With rtmpexplorer you don't need to run CMD directly.

Is it just me or has rtmpExplorer stopped working with Channel 4.
Up until the start of the week it was all working find but as this week has progressed it has got worse and worse. Now I can navigate to the page http://www.channel4.com/programmes/beenys-restoration-nightmare/4od#3256177 for example and the page loads but there is no player - thus I cannot start playing the program and thus not save it.

On the odd occasion when I do get the player (1 in 20 or so) it then displays an error saying the program could not be shown.

I have the same issue on Windows 7 and 2 different windows XP machines using the latest version of rtmpdump.

Anyone any ideas of how to fix or work around this problem

I'm confused as to how to use rtmpdump. Could you possibly give me a tutorial (in layman's terms) on how to use download the video? As I said before, I have never used it before and I am no computer expert, obviously :p

I'm using rtmpexplorer to grab from ITV Player. rtmpsrv doesn't work (it only works for the ads as they're not encrypted) but rtmpsuck does.

How do I copy/save to file the output of rtmpsuck? So that I can manually form the commmand for rtmpdump.

I cannot copy the command line output as it's still running. Using Ctrl+C to cancel closes the window with it. There is no command.bat created. Was going to use KSV's command with the rtmpsuck results as the parameters. Rtmpsrv doesn't work. It would only get the two ads before the programme but not the programme itself.

Perhaps you could try? I use ExpatShield free VPN and the channel URL is in the screenshot I posted.

your problem is due to restrictive vpn. it blocks connection to port 1935. when connection fails on that port flash player tries on port 80 and 443 so video starts playing in RtmpExplorer. if you read the short guide carefully it specifically says to close the rtmpsrv and when channel logo video starts playing quickly start rtmpsrv again so it only detects the actual video url.

because site also tries port 80 and 443. when you are using proxy all traffic on those ports is redirected through proxy while rtmp port (1935) is not redirected.

get-flash-videos is a perl script which supports multiple sites. if you are on windows you can install ActivePerl to use the script.

Thank you Bahman for the playpath! I got rtmpdump downloading the programme now. It's currently 2% downloaded hopefully the full programme will download. What VPN do you use? Maybe you can use your VPN for the rtmpsrv part to detect the URL, and then ExpatShield for downloading with rtmpdump.

Now the only issue I have is that I can't get the URL of the video file. Starting rtmpsrv after the ITV landscape scene video starts playing only detects the 'loading' video, whereas starting it after the adverts have played doesn't detect anything. I was only able to get the new authkey from my debug of rtmpsuck where I have up to tcurl not no playpath.

Hi, first of all a great software, thanks to the builder for creating.

Some questions/enhancement requests/help? I'm using XP with rtmpdump/srv 2.4

Using it on the following link/site: http://shahid.mbc.net/media/video/24987/Arab_Idol_1 lets me download however it stops short of the full episodes by a few minutes and I also noticed that the download gets automatically restarted, no idea why this happens, rtmpexp is always open and stream is running in it so it is not being stopped or interrupted at any point, basically trying to get the HD versions of this which only rtmpexp can get. Also I tried downloading on Windows7 and I know that stream restarting/refreshing is a common occurence of of rtmp however it also has skips at these refresh points in the download.

Basically if there is any help to get the episodes in the above link downloaded fully in HD version, without skips it would be much appreciated.:)

Hi, first of all a great software, thanks to the builder for creating.

Some questions/enhancement requests/help? I'm using XP with rtmpdump/srv 2.4

Using it on the following link/site: http://shahid.mbc.net/media/video/24987/Arab_Idol_1 lets me download however it stops short of the full episodes by a few minutes and I also noticed that the download gets automatically restarted, no idea why this happens, rtmpexp is always open and stream is running in it so it is not being stopped or interrupted at any point, basically trying to get the HD versions of this which only rtmpexp can get. Also I tried downloading on Windows7 and I know that stream restarting/refreshing is a common occurence of of rtmp however it also has skips at these refresh points in the download.

Basically if there is any help to get the episodes in the above link downloaded fully in HD version, without skips it would be much appreciated.:)

It won't let me, is that because I need to do this via Windows 7? XP is my main system but I don't think srv/suck/dump works on these links on this system, they just don't open or crashes or don't download properly...so is there any chance of an XP build anytime soon?

RtmpDump is a command line program. To use it, you open the command prompt (cmd.exe) and type "rtmpdump" followed by the list of parameters for example

Thank you Bahman for the playpath! I got rtmpdump downloading the programme now. It's currently 2% downloaded hopefully the full programme will download. What VPN do you use? Maybe you can use your VPN for the rtmpsrv part to detect the URL, and then ExpatShield for downloading with rtmpdump.

KSV, do I change the listen port of rtmpsrv to 80?

Now the only issue I have is that I can't get the URL of the video file. Starting rtmpsrv after the ITV landscape scene video starts playing only detects the 'loading' video, whereas starting it after the adverts have played doesn't detect anything. I was only able to get the new authkey from my debug of rtmpsuck where I have up to tcurl not no playpath.

I am back with the same problem. I'm trying to get this video: http://www.itv.com/itvplayer/video/?Filter=315795

Now I have tried YourFreedom which is what Bahman uses. It's slow and I still can't get the video URL and authkey. I'm following the same steps: Load page in rtmpexplorer and press play from beginning. I can get the 'loading' video. Starting rtmpsrv during or after the ads doesn't detect anything. I don't have any output in rtmpsuck -z either.

I even made a Windows XP virtual machine in VirtualBox to run MediaBox and rtmpdump and I still get the same error. The error's not from my computer because the virtual machine is a brand new install of XP.

I just wanted to say RTMP Explorer is one of the best programs I have ever seen.

The best ever for downloading from sites that have "full episodes" where you can just click episode after episode and download.

I know some complain about the resulting filenames but I'm getting free video and I can't be that petty, LoL.

But one thing I must complain about is though, some random websites part of it get cuts and it's hard to find ways around it.

If this can be fixed somehow it'd be even better.

But if spike.com can be fixed but it seems like a problem with rtmpdump it self saying "SWFVerify type 2 not supported".

Though I like how you put in your own rtmpdump stuff because it's so easy to upgrade to new rtmpdumps to add extra support for things in the future.

I used to do this stuff in Linux but some sites refuse to let you log in on Linux so it's nice to have a backup.

EDIT: I guess I now see rtmpexplorerx which has a handle feature of changing the port and RTMP Dump Helper looks kinda nice, but for the most part rtmpexplorer gets all the stuff I need.

I have an exact copy of a folder containing rtmpexplorer and rtmpdump on both machines. On the one machine, rtmpsrv willl extract the rtmp link from certain streams so I can open it with VLC. On the other machine it does not work for the exact same stream that works on the first machine! I.e. rtmpsrv would simply not "see" anything. I can however open the extracted rtmp link from the working machine on the non-working one. Somehow rtmpsrv does not behave the same on the two machines. I tried switching off the firewall on the non-working machine but still no success.:(

Any ideas why this is the case? Are there system-wide files, which "work with" rtmpsrv to extract the rtmp link of the stream?

Hi guys. I found the problem! I stumbled over something called Pandora TV. I used TCPview to look at what is happening on the ports and saw Pandora TV occupying a lot of them. I do not even remember installing it. I have a suspicion that it installed itself with KMPlayer, which I recently updated. Either way. I removed KMPlayer and Pandora TV and now everything is back to normal and working perfectly!

Also, is there any way to set it so that the GUI closes automatically as soon as rtmpsrv recognises the download as being complete?

As backwards as it sounds to have a command prompt to launch a gui which automates another command prompt app, there is method in my madness - it would allow integrating the flv download with other processes (such as downloading subtitles on sites like CR) in a single command with less interaction required from the user.

This is what is listed in description of RTMPexplorer.

"The download may appear to keep restarting, but actually this seems to be an automatic RESUME function. This adds to the partially downloaded file, it does not overwrite it."

rtmpsrv file does automatically resume video. But it DOES overwrite the original file and pretty much ruins it. I have seen this many times. Upon resuming, it needs to create a new file instead of tampering with the old one. Too many good streams have been ruined. I am surprised no one is talking about this.

I've been tried with a few different links to catch videos and RTMPExplorer don't catch anything. The console of rtmpsrv.exe is empty.

I tried also with RTMPHelper and I got the same, I only can watch 0.0.0.0:135, after that, empty, nothing more. Nevertheless, I recognise my browser Firefox.

I suppose it's something to do with the port 135. Do I need to open this port ? How to do it ? I have a dsl box connected with an ethernet cable.

found an alternative to rtmpexploreX that works on W10.
Its rtmpdumphelper plus rtmpdump toolkit on the same folder and opting for rtmpsrv instead of rtmpdump.
