OK, I'm trying to remove the DRM protection from a WMV file I downloaded (and yes, I did pay for it and it's legal) so I can burn it to a DVD. I tried Tunebite (http://all-streaming-media.com/remove-DRM-protection/TuneBite-Convert-DRM-protected-WMV-M4P-M4V-video-WMA-AAC-M4B-AA-music-audio-books-preserving-ID3-tags.htm) and got a choppy 40-odd minute file (original was over an hour). Then, I tried to use the FairUse4WM (http://all-streaming-media.com/remove-DRM-protection/FairUse4WM-freeware-DRM-removal-Windows-software-Strip-copy-protection-from-WMV-ASF-WMA-Windows-Media-Player.htm) (is that correct?) program, but I had problems, which turned out to be because the Windows Media Player version was too high to be compatible with the aforementioned program. I'm worried about downgrading, though, as I really don't want to lose my license to play the file (although I do have two downloads left, so I can download it again if necessary).

What would be a recommended solution? I'm lost.

Thanks!

Tunebite (http://all-streaming-media.com/remove-DRM-protection/TuneBite-Convert-DRM-protected-WMV-M4P-M4V-video-WMA-AAC-M4B-AA-music-audio-books-preserving-ID3-tags.htm) and other lossy DRM removal software (http://all-streaming-media.com/remove-DRM-protection/) may have problems when working with the latest version of Windows Media Player.

When using Tunebite or any screen video capture program (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/screen-capture-software.htm) make sure to close other applications and to select a video codec that your PC will be able to use without any problem. It is recommended to use a codec with low compression ratio and then convert to x264, Xvid,... using 2-pass method.

As for other options, you may:

1. Install a fresh copy of Windows XP on VMWare or Virtual PC and use FairUse4WM (http://all-streaming-media.com/remove-DRM-protection/FairUse4WM-freeware-DRM-removal-Windows-software-Strip-copy-protection-from-WMV-ASF-WMA-Windows-Media-Player.htm) on it.

2. Use screen video capture program (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/screen-capture-software.htm). Actually I don't see any difference compared to Tunebite except that you may use a free screen recorder. Yes, Tunebite saves tags, but do you really need them on your videos? Can't you transfer them manually?
