preferred method: RTMPDUMP. the most straight-forward method here. NO PAID SUBSCRIPTION OR REGISTRATION NEEDED. simply adjust the rtmpe url manually (http://stream-recorder.com/forum/showpost.php?p=28009&postcount=31) to download any training video!

alternative method, ALT1: rtmpexplorer (http://stream-recorder.com/forum/rtmpexplorer-rtmpsrv-rtmpdump-gui-t8504.html). works if the video webpage plays fine in the internal browser. for paying subscribers only.

alternative method, ALT2: GetFLV and TubeDigger work if the video webpage plays fine in the internal browser. for paying subscribers only.

note: ALT1 and ALT2 dont work so well these days because Kelby webpages are horribly coded (with HTML errors and javascript errors) so that standalone InternetExplorer (and other browsers) have difficulties displaying the videos.

Uninstall old version of Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-HTTP-RTMP-FLV-MP3-ripper-recorder.htm), reboot and install the latest one. This should solve most problems.

Also please read the user guide. Replay Media Catcher 3 can perfectly download kelbytraining videos.

Kelby Training must be using a bulletproof version of Flash video player (LongTail Video, home of the JW Player) because GetFLV doesnt show anything and URL Snooper shows only ajax change&token data, browser ver. and but no video data.

Sorry, just tried GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) 9.0.0.3 and have other problems with it: every time I choose a mene item, the flv browser signs me out. IN the player window, i don't see the courses to choose to play.
The single video that i was able to acces was the player introduction, and the link for it was the same "on demand", and not the complete link.

KSV, thanks for help!
However, rtmpdump (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/rtmpdump-freeware-console-RTMP-downloading-application.htm) seems almost like a foreign language to me. Do you know a good step by step tutorial for it? How can i detect the link for the flv, and what are "the other" that appear on the command line?

Thanks!

Same problem here too. I'm also a registered/paying member of Kelbytraining and love to view their videos offline. Tried GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) 9.0.0.6 but the browser interface within Getflv just doesn't show the navigation screen to select the courses. If that doesn't work the whole program is useless for downloading Kelbytraining videos. Hope it gets fixed soon.

The screenshots state that the webpage (or website) itself is badly coded with lots of HTML errors and that their streams are protected. It means that you are not allowed to download their streams!
We cant blame the GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) product for (these days) not working with Kelbytraining.com website. The fault is with Kelby's website (and its chief programmer paul) ... they dont provide flawless webpages which display perfectly in all browser versions (IE7, IE8, IE9, FF3.x, FF4.x, etc.). Once Paul fixes the HTML-code of the Kelby webpages, GetFLV will automatically work with the Kelby webpages and download the Kelby streams. Kelby streams have ever since been officially supported by GetFLV:

http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/2898/snap13.th.gif (http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/2898/snap13.gif), http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/8193/snap12.th.gif (http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/8193/snap12.gif)

If you have trouble navigating their website with GetFLV or InternetExplorer, although Flash is installed and JavaScript enabled, then install the latest FireFox (FF4) and do the following:

Instructions how to download Kelby Training videos (hi paul! ;) ):
0. let's take as example the "Adobe InDesign" courses:
>> _http://www.kelbytraining.com/player/
>> Courses : Categories :
>> InDesign
>> Courses :
>> InDesign for Photographers
>> Lessons :
>> Basis Concepts (=day1)

1. with FF4, surf to testpage url (video link!):
http://www.kelbytraining.com/player/#tab\browse/category\indesign/course\74/lesson\738
2. download the video with rtmpdump.exe:
http://img857.imageshack.us/img857/5734/snap14.th.gif (http://img857.imageshack.us/img857/5734/snap14.gif)
3. the command line is:
rtmpdump -r "rtmpe://stream.kelbymediagroup.com/ondemand" -a "ondemand" -f "WIN 10,2,159,1" -W "http://media.kelbymediagroup.com/players/player-4.6-licensed.swf" -p "http://www.kelbytraining.com/player/" -y "indesign_photogs/day1" -o day1.flv
rtmpdump -r "rtmpe://stream.kelbymediagroup.com/ondemand" -a "ondemand" -f "WIN 10,2,159,1" -W "http://media.kelbymediagroup.com/players/player-4.6-licensed.swf" -p "http://www.kelbytraining.com/player/" -y "indesign_photogs/day2" -o day2.flv
rtmpdump -r "rtmpe://stream.kelbymediagroup.com/ondemand" -a "ondemand" -f "WIN 10,2,159,1" -W "http://media.kelbymediagroup.com/players/player-4.6-licensed.swf" -p "http://www.kelbytraining.com/player/" -y "indesign_photogs/day3" -o day3.flv
etc. etc. etc.

As you can see, the video streams dont have any unique ID, session ID or security token or whatsoever. The above command doesnt expire. Clearly, the streams are not protected the way they should be!

And even if paul programmed the video webpages to let/make the RTMPE-stream-url's expire after some time, the freeware tool rtmpdump would be able to download the streams with the above screenshot method. No problem.

rtmpdump does fail in some harder cases (Kelby is a VERY easy case), for example with Hulu.com; but then again the other tool, GetFLV, would come into play.

In summary, there is no viable way by which Kelby could possibly protect their streams from piracy downloading. It is so easy with rtmpdump, as you can see! But this doesnt mean that subscribed users are allowed to do it. In fact, it is prohibited, so dont do it!

This post is for educational purpose, and make sure to hide your IP address before you abuse it
The clever reader might have noticed that one doesnt need any subscription (Save the US$199 per year!!). Since the Kelby videos are not secured, you can download them just like that, as shown (day1, day2, day3, etcetcetc), for example "Lesson 10 : Sample Project (http://www.kelbytraining.com/player/#tab\browse/category\indesign/course\74/lesson\10) (12min10sec)" is day11 such that:
rtmpdump -r "rtmpe://stream.kelbymediagroup.com/ondemand" -a "ondemand" -f "WIN 10,2,159,1" -W "http://media.kelbymediagroup.com/players/player-4.6-licensed.swf" -p "http://www.kelbytraining.com/player/" -y "indesign_photogs/day11" -o day11.flv

i think i know what you mean, lol!
with screen capturing (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-from-screen/) software ANYTHING visual displayed on the screen can be "saved" to file (in form of *.avi, for example).

then of course, whatever Mr. security man implements as protection (or security), EVERYTHING can be (legally) "captured" with tools such as WM Capture (http://www.wmrecorder.com/wm_capture.php).

hmm.. so paul should keep his job then?

Unlike what many content providers think, many users just like to watch streams without buffering, hence they need to download. Or they just need to watch on portable devices. Piracy is about illegal video distribution, not about downloading.

IMHO by preventing legal users from watching content the way they like it (on the go, without buffering,...) content providers lose more customers than win.

Go easy with me, I've no experience with URL sniffers or the like... :o

I should have mentioned I'm on OS X, which makes this a little harder. As far as I could tell most of the info on there was for Windows programs.

I noticed that rtmpsrv was being used in the screenshot posted above, but it seems to be listening on 1935. So now I guess I have to work out how to redirect rtmp traffic through 1935...

let me tell you, on Windows i have serious difficulties with watching the Kelby vids in Internet Explorer 8. Firefox is more error-tolerant .. and can play the vids. In any case, in the end, on a Windows machine, rtmpdump is the most convenient and direct downloading method for Kelby stuff.

Finding rtmpe url's on a mac system?
Maybe let's first find mac users lol on a SRF (http://stream-recorder.com/forum/) system! :p

How about running a virtual box (Windows emulator) on your mac? ;)

i think that the bad html coding (javascript errors, etc.) of the Kelby webpages works as "protection against GetFLV" ;). any testpage url (video link!) (http://www.kelbytraining.com/player/#tab\browse/category\indesign/course\74/lesson\738) results in webpage error messages, in GetFLV and in Internet Explorer 8.

system1 and system2 are identically setup windowsxp-sp3 systems (parallel boot machine).

Latest GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm)can download kelbytraining videos if you can watch them in Internet Explorer.

How about running a virtual box (Windows emulator) on your mac? ;)
You can also run Linux like Ubuntu on a VirtualBox. Or use dual boot for Mac OS and Ubuntu.

I've used RTMPExplorer with success for a while (I'm a registered user of Kelby Training) and now all of a sudden rtmpexplorer displays:
We are experiencing a problem with the database.
Here is the message returned:

A connection could not be made to the server.
"(2013) Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 111"

I tried the latest version of Getflv and it gives me the same message. What's going on? (Navigating with Firefox works without issue..)

hi Sokaris. i am not subscribed to kelby, i dont watch kelby and i dont like kelby. i dont download kelby. but my work on SRF (http://stream-recorder.com/forum/) is to investigate the most convenient ways how to pirate kelby videos.

First of all, let's repeat and state that it is still possbile to download their streams even without any subscription, e.g. with RTMPDump and the following command:
rtmpdump -r "rtmpe://stream.kelbymediagroup.com/ondemand" -a "ondemand" -f "WIN 10,2,159,1" -W "http://media.kelbymediagroup.com/players/player-4.6-licensed.swf" -p "http://www.kelbytraining.com/player/" -y "indesign_photogs/day8" -o day8.flv
this url is a random url taken from the original howto post (http://stream-recorder.com/forum/showpost.php?p=28009&postcount=31).

Second of all... i cant view Kelby videos in my Internet Explorer (different versions) browser and there's some issue with Kelby webpages. And because of those webpage issues my GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) doesnt play the kelby videos (and therefore cant capture the urls or download them). This means i cannot find out what the problem is. Even if RTMPexplorer (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/RTMPExplorer-freeware-GUI-for-rtmpsrv-Windows.htm) fails ..., rtmpdump (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/rtmpdump-freeware-console-RTMP-downloading-application.htm) still can download the url (as long as you know the url). That is most important! :)

We will have to observe if the situation changes, worsens, ..

i've installed Opera to test the kelby webpages.
in Opera the webpage seems *not* to work at first (and the page looks exactly like the above screenshot).. but after a while the video page looks and works just okay.
after that i made Opera my default browser, closed Opera, opened GetFLV (loads Opera engine), and ... same :( problem: the videopage is not displayed properly in GetFLV's browser. One could say "hey, if Opera can display the webpage but Opera-within-GetFLV cannot, then it's GetFLV's fault!" but whoever has followed this thread knows that the problem is the Kelby webpage itself. Not GetFLV. I would report this problem to Kelby webmaster but.. i dont care about kelby. Secondly, they already observe this thread (hi paul! ;) ).

Yeah, i need to defend the GetFLV product!! :D

For example I am able to download the indesign example but not something from the newly released courses such as the one from Calvin Hollywood.

Sokaris, long time no hear ;)

Hey, i dont like Kelby's website and webpages. They are coded awfully (the html) and none of us can expect the developers of TubeDigger (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/TubeDigger-streaming-audio-video-downloader-recorder-Adobe-Flash-Player-streaming-HTTP-RTMP-RTMPE.htm) or GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) or any other standard downloader to adapt their products to the mal-coding of Kelby webpages. Fact is, and this hasnt changed, nobody NEEDS a login for Kelby Training. Just point your RTMPdump (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/rtmpdump-freeware-console-RTMP-downloading-application.htm) to the video (and guessing the correct URL is easy) and download it. I've just tested KSV's last post, it works.

If Kelby codes such bad webpages, i dont think that anybody should support them by paying the full subscription price. From now on Sokaris, dont pay anymore. And use the recommended tool for Kelby webpages:

RTMPDump

You need to know that for any arbitrary SR problem (an arbitrary webpage with a test video) there is always a MORE RECOMMENDED tool which does the download task BETTER THAN the other tools. In this case, Kelby stuff, the recommended tool is rtmpdump. Stick with it, and please dont try to make OTHER tools work with it. Only when rtmpdump fails to do the job, i would begin to complain:

1. Begin with Kelby or Paul Wilder. They code bad webpages. (And their streams are NOT protected!)
2. Post in the GetFLV thread (troubleshooting) your problem. getflv support team works hard to fix such technical issues. Then we can see if getflv support team or RTMPDump support team is faster with fixing ;)

I know that you paid much money for GFLV.. but please, in this case ("Kelby"), use something else. Not GFLV. Personally, I never had any success with GFLV and Kelby, as shown in this thread. And for sure i never recommended GFLV. Anyway, i will notify GFLV's developer now.

Hi Placebo,

Thanks. I tried RTMPdump (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/rtmpdump-freeware-console-RTMP-downloading-application.htm) but I just don´t get it. I´m not a technical person. :) RTMPexplorer (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/RTMPExplorer-freeware-GUI-for-rtmpsrv-Windows.htm) worked reasonably well, but no luck now. I used that because it was easy to do.

Before there were introductory chapters for each course which could be viewed online for free and without registration. From these intro videos one could construct the video url's for the remaining course chapters.

With the new Kelby website i cant find a FREE way to capture any course chapter url. Sokaris, i dont have time to support you in detail.

What you could try:
1. login to your account with Firefox or Internet Explorer and play the video in your browser.
2. launch different rtmpe URL sniffing tools to see which one works best. (I've send a PM to getflv support team. They will fix the Kelby thing soon, i am confident.)
3. once you have the video streaming url, it is easy to download with rtmpdump (http://stream-recorder.com/forum/showpost.php?p=28009&postcount=31). Dont rely on GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm). For Kelby, RTMPdump (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/rtmpdump-freeware-console-RTMP-downloading-application.htm) has always been superior to GFLV.
4. make sure that your account is safe. The Kelby responsibles are subscribed to this thread and are monitoring what we SRF kiddos are doing. If they detect that your account downloads their videos, you might receive an infringement warning email. (Using proxies or vpn (http://stream-recorder.com/forum/showthread.php?p=30051)'s help to disguise your physical location but they dont disguise unusual account activity like downloading streams.)

I need to go. Good luck, bye!
( Let's wait until getflv support team has fixed the problem. After that, if you're still desperate :D, you can send me your login:pass via PM, and i will look into that in detail. )

Tried TubeDigger (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/TubeDigger-streaming-audio-video-downloader-recorder-Adobe-Flash-Player-streaming-HTTP-RTMP-RTMPE.htm) on KelbyTraining. Doesn't work. Probably has something to do with Kelbytraining changing their homepage so I can't even login using Tubedigger.

Hi Sokaris!
The following workaround should work, please try it, sorry cannot test it because I have no login for Kelbytraining:
1. Download updated binary of TubeDigger (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/TubeDigger-streaming-audio-video-downloader-recorder-Adobe-Flash-Player-streaming-HTTP-RTMP-RTMPE.htm) from _http://www.tubedigger.com/_td_.exe - it contains only one change - it doesn't delete IE cookies from Kelbytraining
2. Open Kelbytraining.com in IE and login there - preferrable do not close IE then
3. Start updated TubeDigger (_td_.exe) - open Kelbytraining.com - you should be logged already
Please give feedback how it goes.

For correct downloading TubeDigger is clearing cookies from currently browsing pages, except vkontakte, hulu, crackle, simfy.de, channel4, mog.
In future version there will be possibility to add manually sites from which do not delete cookies into settings dialog and to turn off cookie cleaning.

hei, if someone has problems with the little Login-drop down menu (top right corner of kelly homepage), then the following url is an easy work-around trick. simply login with this alternative Login:
http://kelbytraining.com/wp-login.php?loggedout=true

there's no drop down menu. you can simply surf to the url (with Getflv internal browser, or with rtmpexplorer, or with Tubedigger) and then login.

Kelly videos are by no means protected, and the old rtmpdump commands from this thread all still work. Only the website's layout (style, graphical user interface) has changed. it's slicker, robuster and should work with any (old) web browser.

in fact, downloading Kelby videos is now easier than before!! I dont know how to make screenshots so maybe someone else (placebo??) can..

I use it to pipe the stream through mplayer because I have a crappy cable connection. Sometimes rtmpsrv throws a handshake error. After a bit of troubleshooting, running it with the -v option shows the filename isn't correctly built. Close. I can manually enter the corrected name and it works.

The videos are now all 720p and have some creative names. One class had 3 videos names mp4_kt_something_#_lighting_720p

Can anyone say what I am doing wrong?

The reason I am doing that is that RTMPexplorer downloads the 360p file but I would like the 720p file. Maybe there is a better way of doing that?

Just tried to manually download from KT this week. Something has changed and I got a weird result. The first time gave me a RTMP_ReadPacket, failed to read RTMP packet header. I turned on -V and got WriteN, RTMP send error 10053. I checked my spelling and got the READ error again.

I am using KSV's version of rtmpdump. rtmpExplorer with either srv or suck also doesn't work.

attached the output from the manual download.

Thanks for any help.

delete option - "W" from a string;)

daMichael
11-25-2011, 12:38 AM
Thanks Chap.

Not sure why the -W isn't working now. I need to keep resuming (-e) but it looks like the entire file might come in.

It does toss an error -
ERROR: HandleCtrl: Ignoring SWFVerification request, use --swfVfy!

KSV
11-25-2011, 04:58 AM
rtmpdmp is using cached swf player data for SWFVerification response which is not valid anymore. if we set the option --swfAge 0 (by default it's 30 days) it forces rtmpdump to fetch new swf file but in this particular case their cache server returns HTTP 304 response saying swf player is not modified. there are two ways you can correct this.

1. delete .swfinfo file from user directory (C:\Documents and Settings\username).
2. instead of --swfVfy | -W switch use --swfUrl "http://media.kelbymediagroup.com/players/player5.6/player.swf" --swfsize 205074 --swfhash "22589a1043f320c0d30995949dce327c3e8fe973fe56f8d35d 493c6f3cf5eda2"

daMichael

1. delete .swfinfo file from user directory (C:\Documents and Settings\username).

The date of the .swfinfo file was the last day I was able to download anything from KT.

Thanks KSV for all the work and advice.

**edit - I deleted the .swfinfo file and ran rtmpExplorer. The same info in the old file was saved in the new file. Replacing the size and hash with KSV's posted info lets rtmpExplorer download.

Hi,

I am running a mac so I can't use rtmp explorer. I am really struggling to get the URLs. I have tried using wireshark to download everything and do a text search on flv and mp4.....no luck

What I find really interesting is how they hell they get it to work on the ipad without making finding the URL trivial.

I tried setting my user agent to ipad in firefox with no luck.

I am trying to rip these videos

Never used a mac in my life but i guess it something like how you use it on Linux.

Open a Terminal and type rtmpdump --help

You should now have in front of you rtmpdump's help file. :)

I have scripted this using rtmpdump on a Mac and dowloaded the hell out of the Kelby site, all the video's I wanted. :)

The scripts probably will run on Linux too.

All you need is a free 24 hour on the Kelby site to get the pages containing the URL's of the video's and you can download them using my scripts.

Send me a PM if you are interested.

One of the stream names is bfortney_seeingphotographically/kt_bf_seeing_photographically_01_360p.mp4

You can get all the URLs from the website itself, no need for Wireshark or other involved means. KT tells JWP (the player) what they are. Of course you have to be signed in to see them or make an educated guess.

I am completely new to rtmpdump and fairly new to mac's and I am having a really hard time wrapping my brain around how to acquire and save these Kelby training videos. My one year subscription is reaching its end, and I have had time to watch all of 3 video tutorials to completion. I would like to find a way to save some of the videos to watch at a later date before my subscription expires.

I assumed some of these terminal commands would be cut and past, just changing the links slightly for the different videos, but so far I have been unable to snag a single video.

Any help would be appreciated.

Here are the two terminal comands I have tried so far, both result in a -Bash {...insert command here.......} no such file or directory.

I've been able to successfully stream the KT videos in the past, but now I get the following error:

Connecting ...
ERROR: Problem accessing the DNS. <addr: mbrstream.kelbymediagroup.com>

Have Kelby done some extra encoding steps lately?
I thought my IP might have been blocked, but I tried it on multiple IPs/computers with the same result.

Here an example .bat file i've been running flawlessly in the past:

setlocal EnableDelayedExpansion
for /L %%n in (1 1 19) do (
set "num=00%%n"
set "num=!num:~-2!"
c:\downloads\rtmpdump\rtmpdump.exe -r "rtmpe://mbrstream.kelbymediagroup.com/ondemand/encoding" -a "ondemand/encoding" -f "WIN 11,2,202,228" -W "http://media.kelbymediagroup.com/players/player5.8/player.swf" -p "http://kelbytraining.com/online/watch/skelby_lsrhotshoe" -y "mp4:skelby_lsrhotshoe/kt_skelby_lsrhotshoe_!num!_720p.mp4" -o kt_skelby_lsrhotshoe_!num!_720p.flv
)

FYI: the code above loops through and records all the videos in the "series".
In the case of the "Light It. Shoot It. Retouch it – On a Budget with Hot Shoe Flash" above, there are "19" episodes

I haven't been able to determine how to record the Kelby videos via RTMPDUMP since the change, however Audials Tunebite Premium 9 and 10 can now successfully stream & record the 720p videos from each KT video

Prior to Kelby changing the streaming, I was getting encryption errors within Tunebite, now they record with no problem from the domain edgecastcdn.net

Yeah, I can do the same but it involves looking into the html pages to get the right URL to download the stuff. I was hoping to automate that but that turned out to be a bit of a hassle and the extension www.flashvideodownloader.org does it's work fine for me so I did not bother till now. ;-)
