The main method described in this thread has been working for months now and it still does. It exploits a security hole on Amazon (http://amzn.com/?tag=streamingme01-20)'s website such that everybody (from any country) can download their Amazon Instant Videos (AIV's) in full length + in the highest possible bitrate (incl. HD, when HD option is available) without registering, ordering, subscribing, logging in or similar. just like that. FOR FREE. a true security hole. after publicizing, here (http://stream-recorder.com/forum/recording-amazon-instant-video-amazon-video-demand-t8878.html) on SRF (http://stream-recorder.com/forum/), the details of the method i am sure that amazon will work fast and hard to fix the hole .. but till then let's have the party and enjoy it as long as it lasts. And how do SRF or the SRF community or i benefit from revealing the secret -- why do i tell at all, shouldn't i keep my mouth shut?

I've recorded several videos from Amazon Amazon VOD (video on demand) (http://amzn.com/Instant-Video/b?ie=UTF8&node=2858778011&tag=streamingme01-20) with Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-HTTP-RTMP-FLV-MP3-ripper-recorder.htm). It seems to be the only programs that can record videos streamed throught the encrypted RTMPE protocol. Replay Media Catcher is great, but are there any free alternatives?
The only RTMP Flash stream recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/record-streaming-video-Adobe-Flash-FLV-videos.htm) that was able to record RTMPE encrypted protocol for me was Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-HTTP-RTMP-FLV-MP3-ripper-recorder.htm). Sorry, but I can't suggest you any freeware program that can record RTMPE protocol.

Amazon was quick to update their streams. As of now, I know the developer from Media Catcher is working on a fix, but I don't know anything beyond that.

Try WM Capture (http://www.wmrecorder.com/download.php). It's recommend by Applian (http://www.applian.com), and I've tried it too. It records videos as they play, and the quality is brilliant. And it will never be blocked like they did with Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-HTTP-RTMP-FLV-MP3-ripper-recorder.htm) .

1. even at $59.95 that is overpriced considering open source rtmpsrv will do much of it for free
2. your GUI is HORRIBLE. for god sakes get the Qt framework. it is open source and free. VLC media player use it as an example.

also as of 2011-1-27 Amazon (http://amzn.com/?tag=streamingme01-20) changed to using an IP based RTMP host instead of URL. so windows users are basically out of luck. for some reason i cant even get rtmpsrv to work on linux with amazon since then

By the way, I am not the original author of this hacking method; full credits go to several SRF members (http://stream-recorder.com/forum/memberlist.php?&order=DESC&sort=posts&pp=100), in particular to the team who modified the Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-HTTP-RTMP-FLV-MP3-ripper-recorder.htm) 3 plugin. And it is safe to assume that the whole video release scene (http://vcdq.com) must have been abusing the procedure for years without telling.

Full length.
AIV's have at least 1 of the following most common attributes:
"?? hours/days rental", "Buy this ??", "Buy TV Pass", "HD", "Video currently unavailable", "Play free preview", "Play trailer", "(no play button whatsoever)", "Prime members".
Bad news: Only those AIV's the attributes of which include "Play free preview" can be downloaded in full length. A large group of AIV's which have a "Play trailer"-button instead are costly Hollywood blockbuster movie productions, for which official trailers were explicitly produced. Whenever such an official trailer video clip replaces the free preview, the AIV cannot be downloaded in full-length because it is blocked by the existence of that very trailer.
Good news: Whenever it says "Play free preview", the full-length downloadability is guaranteed! And most AIV's do have this button, e.g. low budget films (for theater/TV/cinema), TV shows, TV series, TV series in HD, documentaries and other Movie Genres.
Bottom line: There exists no rule by which you could possibly predict whether an AIV comes with a free preview- or with a trailer-button, for example do a search on < harry potter and the chamber of secrets (http://amzn.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_5_39?url=search-alias%3Damazontv&field-keywords=harry+potter+and+the+chamber+of+secrets&sprefix=harry+potter+and+the+chamber+of+secrets&rh=n%3A16261631%2Ck%3Aharry+potter+and+the+chamber +of+secrets&ajr=3&tag=streamingme01-20) > and you get 5 results: 2 movies with a free preview-button, 3 movies with a trailer-button!

Localization.
Amazon videographic material (and MP3 downloads) is meant exclusively for U.S. residents. However you can easily fool the website with proxies if you live outside the United States. For this, try different proxy types, clear the browser cache (Temporary Internet Files) in between and reload the AIV webpage. Once you're in, feel free to shut down your proxy servers and continue the piracy downloading with your normal IP address (issued from your local ISP). As you can see, you only need to fool the website once, at the very beginning (say, of your day). Well, if you're paranoid, continue to hide your identity with proxies: safety comes first, huh? ;)

Streaming quality, bitrates.
When you play the free preview stream in non-HD mode, the Flash Player automatically examines your connection speed (bandwidth) and decides for 1 fixed streaming quality. Once the video has started streaming, you cannot change its quality anymore. The streaming quality is indicated at the bottom of the Flash Player:

the max. is 4 green bars, which means a resolution of 480p (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/480p) at a high bitrate of ~1328kbps *.FLV (1200kbps for the AVC video + 128kbps for the AAC audio). With a DSL 6000 (http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20101026103301AAOuuqK) line, it is easy to maintain such a stream. If you have difficulties achieving the 4 green bars, you can "reset" your connection speed by running the online speed test (http://speedtest.net) once. Also close unnessary windows, kill unnessary background processes. This ensures that your system is again fresh and fast. Then repeatedly reload the AIV webpage until you get the 4 green bars.

The existence of the HD streaming option is coupled with the offered AIV item itself and absolutely independent from you, your internet connection or your system. Every amazon surfer on the globe confronts identically the same picture: Either a particular AIV item does have an additional HD streaming option or it doesnt; it is nothing which you (or your system) could determine, control or influence! As a general rule, old Hollywood movies dont come with a HD streaming option whereas all recent popular U.S. TV series do have a "HD-button" to switch between standard streaming vs. high definition streaming. Anyway, when you play the free preview, look for button(s) which let you switch to streaming the free preview in HD. Typically some button in the embedded Flash Player is labelled "HD".

Download transfer speed and parallel downloads.
You can download several AIV's at the same time. The download speed (per stream) is typically faster than the actual playing time of the video, and it may range from 90KB/s to 250KB/s (depending on the number of green bars). A HD stream's typical download speed may range from 450KB/s to 0.6MB/s. The situation is comparable to downloading multiple RTMPE-streams from TV.com or Hulu.com; nothing special to note.

Resumability.
This property tops it all off! You can pause/halt/stop/interrupt your download, shut down your PC, and get up next morning with a new (local) IP address, and then resume your download. Very fascinating to see that resuming works! And why or how does it work? I dont know. Maybe the RMTPE-url's are (in a certain way) static url's which dont expire. your screenshot reveals that your standard browser (default browser) is Google Chrome. switch it to Firefox (if you have the latest Flash on FF) or to InternetExplorer (if you have the latest Flash on IE). with IE8 set as standard browser, i am downloading the HD stream (~400MB for a ~20mins. video!:eek: ) with full DSL6000 bandwith, i.e. ~750KB/s. all the numbers (elapsed time, final file size, speed, etc.) in the GUI are dynamic numbers and quite inexact, except for the current file size. AIV rocks, doesnt it? :cool:

I don't know anything about RTMP plug-in modification. The official plugin_zrtmp.dll from Applian used to support RTMPE protocol before Adobe came to the spotlight.

AWEESOOME. changed default BACK to firefox (had to go to chrome after updating windows yesterday), downloaded latest firefox to fix the connection problem, but STILL had the "Flash player out of date" problem. downloaded the new Flash IN GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) after disabling PeerBlock (which was probably my original problem haha), restarted GetFLV and everything worked GREAT! now i just have to save up $60 :D

Anyhoo, I don't think RTMPdump (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/rtmpdump-freeware-console-RTMP-downloading-application.htm) is gonna work until Howard figures out Handshake-9. The server will accept type 3 or type 6 handshakes for RTMP but not for RTMPE, it looks like.

I got the server to accept my handshake, but I guess that's not much of an accomplishment for protocol 1 or protocol 0.

i actually did buy mine, and its worth it alone just for the AIV. w3tno, youre not going to get more than 10mb of any video with the Free or 'cracked' versions of GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm), though it is interesting to see it work yourself with the Free version and the info in the ZIP.

subinbar, do a side by side comparison of the (two) posted media info for this particular TV-episode (*.FLV). you'll see that in the media info of GFLV's download result the video time length piece of information is missing. THIS MEANS THAT GFLV's *.FLV FILE NEEDS TO BE FIXED.

on the other hand it should be true that, if you extract the audio & video track from the two flv's (http://moitah.net/), both results (GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) vs. rtmpdump (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/rtmpdump-freeware-console-RTMP-downloading-application.htm)) are 100% identical.

As you know, "FLV" is just a container (or wrapper) like zip/rar/mp4/etc. When you stream download ("capture") FLV's with any known rtmp recorder, the container gets slightly damaged. That's what the FLV fix tools are good for. Surprisingly, rtmpdump downloads perfect FLV-files with 100% intact containers.

In the end the container's content matters. GFLV and rtmpdump preserve 100% intact and identical contents (=audio + video track), so no need to worry if you downloaded FLV's exclusively with GFLV. at the end of the day i prefer using GFLV too! has a beautiful looking user interface (blueish colors :cool: )...

Ahh ok, I understand what you meant.

Doesn't matter either way, I extract all streams and re-mux them in Matroska.

This AIV thread serves to demonstrate that the AIV's are not protected against direct downloading. It should not serve to encourage you to abuse it. Respect the intellectual property and buy the AIV's properly from amazonDOTcom! :p

It would be laughable if Amazon (http://all-streaming-media.com/links/amazon.php) withdrew the buttons for the rest of our teenage lives only because of us SRF kiddos. It simply means that they are afraid of SRF community and our tools. Victory, we win!!! :p

It's summer, it's vacation. School's over (highschool, junior college)! Let's do something more fun, call our mates, play some ball or go swimming. Or maybe travel the country, visit beachy places :cool: When school's back on in September/October we'll check back on this topic. If we're lucky, the buttons will be there again and we can continue our AIV stream recording.

The zip has a note attached to it. The contents of the note tell you what to do to get the PW. For me, the easiest method was to send a note to the given email address, and fairly promptly I was emailed the PW.
