View Full Version : How to record WMA/WMV/ASF streaming (MMS,RTSP) with freeware VLC Media Player

If you have an MMS or RTSP Windows Media URL, copy it to the clipboard.
(if you right-click on the Windows Media Player ans select "Properties", you can find the link and copy it)

Freeware VLC Player (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/record-streaming-video-windows-media-and-real-video.htm#VLC) 1.0 allows to record Windows Media WMA/WMV/ASF streaming.

How to record WMA/WMV/ASF streaming (MMS,RTSP) with freeware VLC Media Player:

Start VLC

Select "Media File"->"Open Network Stream"

Select HTTP/HTTPS/FTP/MMS and paste the URL

Click "Stream..."

Verify the URL and click the "Next" button

Select "File" as a destination and click the "Add button"

Click "Display locally" if you want to watch as it loads.

Click "Browse..." and locate where you want to save your file. Ensure you add ".asf", ".wmv" or ".wma" to the end of the filename.

Disable transcoding by umchecking the "Activate Transcoding" option.

Alternatively you can check "Activate Transcoding" and select a profile such as "Video - WMV + WMA (ASF)"

Click the Next button.

Click the "Stream" button

The stream will start buffering

Then it will be saved to your hd
