Thank you for mentioning WM Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/WMRecorder-One-click-online-audio-video-stream-recorder.htm) to record YouTube videos. I tried it, and AUTO mode worked fine, till I tried to just record a portion of a youtube, by hitting the REC and STOP button, and then all haywire broke loose it seemed to me. Resulting in numerous odd files that did not play, with extensions such as .64 - what is that? Anyway I did not like that it had two popup screens that blocked my view of the webpage, one of them a wide DOS looking blank. I want simple.
The s/w did not seem to get that I wanted to record only a portion of a youtube video, not the entire thing. And when I clicked to see a different video, it started recording it as well, so anywhere I clicked it started yet another recording. Confusing to a novice like me.
Maybe if I could find idiot step by step how to work this program, I would buy it. And the price in Dec 2007 is way high at fifty bucks.

I don't really see any way to capture a part of flash streaming video with WM Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/WMRecorder-One-click-online-audio-video-stream-recorder.htm) or any other stream recording software. But after downloading video from YouTube you can split it using software like freeware command line utility FLV Parser.
Alternatively you can use screen video capture software (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/screen-capture-software.htm), but I don't really recommend this way of recording.

Hey, thanks for the tip. I may have to adjust my need to take the entire video and then split it later - much more work. I find that my Screencast allows recording of any small region where I draw an outline. However, it now all of a sudden does not record audio - and I don't know how to fix it. It worked most satisfactorily until recently. I believe this s/w failed to function immediately I let my WMP receive an "update" by a movie site that sounds like internet flics (get it?).
Try to remove the update and/or re-install Replay ScreenCast (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Screencast-one-click-screen-capturing-software.htm)
I believe Replay sells the WMR you mentioned. I trialed it, works great. Just don't want entire films (too many are too long).
If you have any pull with Repl. or Appl., please encourage the feature I want.
Besides their own products like Replay Music (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-audio-stream/Replay-Music-record-any-web-radio-station-or-streaming-music-service.htm), Replay AV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-AV-capture-Streaming-Video-Audio-Radio-Shows-Online-TV-Broadcasts-Video-Clips-Audio-Archives-Podcasts-Free-to-try.htm), Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-HTTP-RTMP-FLV-MP3-ripper-recorder.htm), Appian also sells WM Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/WMRecorder-One-click-online-audio-video-stream-recorder.htm).
I've sent the feature request to Applian. If it is very common, the software will be developed. It is not a big problem to download video and then split, cut or edit it, so I'm not really sure this will be done.

Again I thank you for all your help.
I still hope the maker sees the value in my request for limited region recording.
I tested WMR again tonight on a news program and find it works extremely well - but only after some fiddling. I may have to get used to it, and give up the idea of one button recording.
It did not record at first so I switched from ada to pro mode. This left blank spaces for file name and url and I did not know what to fill in. I typed Record.flv to jump start it, and WMR replaced that with another name, and a few taps before a url appeared. Then some more fidgets before the dos recording screen opened. Too much uncertainty and fiddling!
HOWEVER: NOTE: When I played the downloaded flv, it looked TERRIFIC matching quality of video and audio of the original.
2 Qs:
Does it need to record to a flv?? If I want mpeg, must I convert?
Can you provide the (BABYIFIED) steps you use to get this to work right off the bat?
I will trial if a few more times before deciding.
THANK Y O U!

You don't need to enter filename in the PRO or ADA mode of WM Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/WMRecorder-One-click-online-audio-video-stream-recorder.htm). Please see the User Guide for more click (the "HELP" button and select "User Guide").

Screen capture software (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/screen-capture-software.htm) allows you to select format which to use. When you download/capture/save to hd/rip obviously you get the format of the original.
But you can use flv converters to get other videos formats. WM Converter (http://all-streaming-media.com/convert-audio-video-files/WM-Converter-audio-video-file-conversion-within-WM-Recorder.htm) that comes with WM Recorder should also be able to convert such files.
Can you provide the (BABYIFIED) steps you use to get this to work right off the bat?
If the User Guide of WMR won't help you, I'll try to do that.

After more trials last night of both wmr and mc I lean towards the simpler. I bought screencast a year ago and cannot figure out how to fix it, even after several emails with replay's customer service. I feel reluctant to get another product from them while I have their broke one.
In choosing between wmr and mc, it seems I will not get exactly what I want, yet close enough. I just abhor the extra work of cutting these huge videos to get a tiny section.
I do read other comments by newbies and find that many want the same things as me. When the makers of these s/w provide for us they will necessarily make a fortune from us dumb people. Much more plentiful supply of us than the sharp minded techies, don't you think?
I appreciate all your technical advice with my problem. If ever you come to SF I owe you a drink. S'long.

Their support is very good, but of course there will be problems they won't be able to solve, especially if they are caused by bugs of other vendors. I'm sure if you get a clean OS, the software will work.

IMHO Applian team does its best to make software as easy to use as possible. They were the first to introduce AUTO recording mode.
Please PM me the links to other comments. The more of them I will have, the more chances that someone will implement this.
p.s. Sometime in the future you will only think about something and it will be done by a computer.
