I have discovered a quick and easy workaround to solve the problem with wanting to record as streams things from the BBC radio "Listen Again" facility.
When you play something, it defaults to "Dial-up modem version: OFF" within the BBC iPlayer Radio Console. If you click on this, to turn it "ON", you will then find it streams the same stuff, but in a form Replay AV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-AV-capture-Streaming-Video-Audio-Radio-Shows-Online-TV-Broadcasts-Video-Clips-Audio-Archives-Podcasts-Free-to-try.htm) 8 can identify. The iPlayer Radio Console remembers how it was last left in this manner. So now within Replay AV 8 use the URL Finder under Tools, and go and play a Listen Again programme. It will open up as a RealPlayer feed and you can then see in it Replay AV 8 and save and name it as it always used to be done.
I think that the "Dial-up modem version: OFF" setting is to be preferred if just playing something in real time whilst at your PC, somewhere I think I read that the quality is supposed to be improved in this mode.

Hi, I have problem recording BBC radio streams. The only program that works for me is WM Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/WMRecorder-One-click-online-audio-video-stream-recorder.htm) 14 - excellent. But it is too expensive for me. I tried another free programs but nothing works.:( I read a lot of topics/posts here but nothing helped.
Only thing I need is to download BBC streamed radio documents (no need video )
Thank you very much for any hint/help. (I am UK abroad;win7)

You can download BBC radio streams with Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-HTTP-RTMP-FLV-MP3-ripper-recorder.htm) (RMC) and Jaksta (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Jaksta-Streaming-Media%20Recorder-and-Converter.htm).
If you don't want to use commercial software like RMC and Jaksta, you can try freeware Orbit Downloader (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Download-manager-Orbit-Downloader-Record-HTTP-MMS-RTSP-RTMP-media-streams-Freeware.htm), CooJah + Blader (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Blader-freeware-RTMP-downloader.htm), TubeMaster++ (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/TubeMaster-freeware-open-source-stream-recorder-with-RTMP-support-Windows-Linux-MacOS.htm).
You can also try freeware open-source rtmpdump (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/rtmpdump-freeware-console-RTMP-downloading-application.htm), flvstreamer and get_iplayer.

Thank you for your help! -but none of these programs works OK on my computer. It usually downloads only 3-4 kB file and thats all. Maybe I have to set something (but iam not skilled with this) WM Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/WMRecorder-One-click-online-audio-video-stream-recorder.htm) works OK with no settings. I will have to buy it probably. :(

Hi, I'm new here, and relatively inexperienced at ripping streaming audio. For a while I used to use this: URL to rip programs from radio4 altering the time and date accordingly:
rtsp://rm-acl.bbc.co.uk:554/radio4fmcoyopa/radio_4_fm_-_wednesday_2100.ra
One can see how the timing works and if I wanted something at Wednesday at 9 pm then that would be fine.
I had not done this for a while and yesterday and today have been trying to use it, but the programs are not from the past week, as they used to be, but seem to be the middle of May, or any old time.
I am wondering what has happened. Have the BBC changed the way they do this.
Does anyone have the new URL if there is one. I have tried all sorts of ways to find the direct address for the progs, but nothing has worked.
Help would be really appreciated, thanks.

Have you tried to find stream URLs with freeware URL Snooper (http://all-streaming-media.com/find-stream-URL/Project-URL-Snooper-Find-the-actual-stream-URL-Free-download.htm)?
If you have problems with it, please post the URL of a particular web-page where the stream can be found.

Thanks, but I did try snoop this afternoon without any success. I wonder if they have a new policy of really hiding their URL's. I would much rather avoid having to record in real time, as it takes over the whole PC, as well as the time involved. Apart from snoop is there a way of getting the URL's. I've tried WM Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/WMRecorder-One-click-online-audio-video-stream-recorder.htm), RMrecorder, trying to dismantle the files, but I guess it is being hidden behind javascript, of which I have no knowledge. A demo of BBC ripper did seem promising, but it seems very much a black box, and so is probably difficult if not impossible to dig out the URL from that. Also the full prog is very expensive for what you get. Any other thoughts? Is there anyone here you is actually at present managing to download what they want from BBC radio4 or indeed any other beeb station, and what URL would they be using.

06-30-2010, 05:12 PM
Well, I've fiddled about with snooper again and looked at a few files and come up with this:
rtsp://3gp-acl.bbc.co.uk:554/radio4/secure_auth/mobile/RBN2_radio_4_fm_-_sunday_2130_b00t2rf2_2010_06_27_21_15_38.mp4
looks promising - doesn't it. But everything I have tried it in has rejected it one way or another I wonder if there are other bits of software to try.
It may be of course that it just won't work regardless of the software, but it does look like it might.
I've tried, NetTransport (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/NetXFer-Saving-Windows-Media-Real-Audio-Video-QT-streaming-to-hd.htm), Orbit Downloader (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Download-manager-Orbit-Downloader-Record-HTTP-MMS-RTSP-RTMP-media-streams-Freeware.htm), and free downloader. Any thoughts anyone.

Tried Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-HTTP-RTMP-FLV-MP3-ripper-recorder.htm) and it downloaded an RTMP stream. No need to convert, because audio tracks can be extracted losslessly. For example, Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-HTTP-RTMP-FLV-MP3-ripper-recorder.htm) can extract MP3 from FLV (You can use its demo version to do it for free).

By the way, just as a matter of interest why was the recommended converter ****ed out, it seemed kosher enough, and it's free. Did I inadvertantly break some rule?

rtmpdump -r "rtmpt://bbcmedia.fcod.llnwd.net/a1414/e3/mp4:radio3/secure_auth/international/RBN2_radio_3_-_friday_1700_b00swrdy_2010_07_16_20_03_24.mp4?as=a dobe-hmac-sha256&av=1&te=connect&mp=radio3/secure_auth/international/RBN2_radio_3_-_friday_1700_b00swrdy_2010_07_16_20_03_24.mp4&et=1 279382303&fmta-token=15573f6e5466ab61552d3333d6afa494cdf529a0688d b133bc2e26cfa9aa5442" -o test.flv

Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-HTTP-RTMP-FLV-MP3-ripper-recorder.htm) 4 in the RTMP recording mode works fine for me (for the audio stream; the video is not available in my area, and most probably uses RTMPE protocol).
You can also try to capture RTMP packets with freeware CooJah (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Blader-freeware-RTMP-downloader.htm), Orbit Grab Pro.

That's because you need to go to the Settings and set the RTMP recording mode (not the RTMP downloading mode).

It is not slow, it just captures packets in real time from your local flash player. But you are right, in many cases downloading can be done faster than in real time.
The benefits of RTMP packet capturing are the following:
You can capture some protected streams that can't be downloaded
Content providers can't detect that you record streams.
p.s.
Glad that I was able to help! Please do not distribute recordings, use stream recorders as your personal archiving tools only.

Hello everybody,
Thanks for the nice post. I want to rip BBC radio programs off the Radio 4 website and make audi CDs of them that will play in my music system. I don't have any problem recording RTMP streams from BBC using Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-HTTP-RTMP-FLV-MP3-ripper-recorder.htm) 4 and WM Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/WMRecorder-One-click-online-audio-video-stream-recorder.htm) 14. There are lots of other programs you can try:
You can download RTMP streams with freeware CooJah + Blader (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Blader-freeware-RTMP-downloader.htm), Orbit Downloader (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Download-manager-Orbit-Downloader-Record-HTTP-MMS-RTSP-RTMP-media-streams-Freeware.htm), StreamTransport (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/StreamTransport-Download-HTTP-RTMP-RTMPE-streams.htm), shareware Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-download-and-capture-streaming-music-radio-video.htm), WM Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/WMRecorder-One-click-online-audio-video-stream-recorder.htm)...
And you can to capture RTMP streams in real time while you watch them using freeware CooJah (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Blader-freeware-RTMP-downloader.htm) (without Blader), Orbit Grab Pro, shareware Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-download-and-capture-streaming-music-radio-video.htm) (in the RTMP recording mode), WM Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/WMRecorder-One-click-online-audio-video-stream-recorder.htm) (in the Loopback mode). Capturing can be done in real time only, but allows you to stay undetected.
If you use Linux, try rtmpsrv or rtmpsuck.
