I believe I have tried every recorder to capture Adobe Flash Player streaming video which is not really "embedded" - it appears in a pop- up window. The only one I can get to recognize the stream is FLV Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/FLV-Recorder-flash-video-stream-recording-software.htm). It downloads the video but when the video ends FLVRecorder crashes.

On my fourth attempt, for example, FLVrecorder downloaded this file: C:\flvrecorder\flash[4].@@@ The videos run 4-6 hours and the files are large - between 360 and 540 MB. After the video ended and FLV crashed the downloaded video did not appear in the playlist. I renamed the downloaded file Test4.FLV and opened it with FLVPlayer which added it to the playlist. However when I played the video it was a black screen.

Any suggestions?

It is not really important whether the flash player is embedded or not. However it must be an embedded player in the pop-up window.

You can try other RTMP flash stream rippers.

And you can post or PM me the URL of the web-page so that I can try to record.

What kind of problem with Orbit Downloader (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Download-manager-Orbit-Downloader-Record-HTTP-MMS-RTSP-RTMP-media-streams-Freeware.htm) did you have? Can you send me a log?

And what about Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-HTTP-RTMP-FLV-MP3-ripper-recorder.htm)? Can it find the URL? Is it an RTMP URL?

OK i just re-installed the demo version of Replay Media Catcher. The error i get is:

Internal error while trying to download RTMP stream
Error: recv() failed on timeout

I'll make another post after I re-install Orbiter

Thanks for the help by the way!!!!!! I appreciate it!

At least we know that it is an RTMP stream.

After Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-HTTP-RTMP-FLV-MP3-ripper-recorder.htm) or Grab++ gets the RTMP URL, try to stop playing your stream in the Flash Player. It helps in many cases.

Should I pause the stream BEFORE I get the error message? Or wait until I get the error message? I just downloaded 124 MB before I got the error message. Is there a way to resume the download or do I have to start over again?

FLV Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/FLV-Recorder-flash-video-stream-recording-software.htm) captures packets coming to your Flash player. So as long as you play your stream in the Flash player, FLV Recorder can capture packet from it.

Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-HTTP-RTMP-FLV-MP3-ripper-recorder.htm) and Orbit Downloader (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Download-manager-Orbit-Downloader-Record-HTTP-MMS-RTSP-RTMP-media-streams-Freeware.htm) only need an RTMP stream to be played to find the RTMP URL. As soon as you get the RTMP URL, you can stop / pause your Flash player.

Aha I caught you online :)

Hey I got Orbit Downloader to work!! Thanks for the help!!

Only one minor issue - when I trying to capture a live show Orbit doesn't recognize when the show is over. Is there a way to force Orbit to move a file from "Downloading" to "Completed"?

How to fininsh downloading incomplete FLV stream with Orbit Downloader (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Download-manager-Orbit-Downloader-Record-HTTP-MMS-RTSP-RTMP-media-streams-Freeware.htm):

Select the stream that you needs to be stopped
Hit the Pause button. Cancel download.
Rename "filename.flv.ob!" to "filename.flv" and try to play it.

How to reveal hidden file extensions in Windows XP:

Open Windows explorer by selecting it from the Start menu, or by double clicking on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop or in the Start menu
Once you have your Windows Explorer (don't confuse Windows Explorer with Internet Explorer) select Tools, and then Folder options from the menu at the top.
From the Windows Folder Options window, click the View tab
UNcheck the box that says "Hide extensions for known file types"
Click OK

Please ignore that last post. I figured out how to rename the file to a .flv file but it doesn't appear on the Orbit Downloader list and it won't open with FLV Player. Any ideas?

I tried one RTMP stream and it worked for me, but obviously I can't guarantee that everything will be OK in 100% of cases.

Try to use other FLV players

Ok I downloaded K-Lite Codec Pack and was able to play one live download in Media Player Classic even without changing the extension from ob! to flv . I still can't play my first live download but I am happy I can play some. Thanks very much for all the help man. You're a great guy!
