I'm trying to download this stream: http://www.tv4.se/player/categories.aspx?treeId=4014&pid=54529&more=1

After downloading this site, there is categories.aspx folder with another folder named showContent_data and metafile.asx stream. After double-clicking metafile.asx Windows Media Player starts and I can watch the stream that I'm interesting in.

Now I've been trying to download it and I've found the URL of this stream: mms://stream.tv4.se/2006-05-09/mera_motor!52044,W3L!.wmv?secure=ELJyQHVKuRIgy9UCD L18kGFQBgGTIiBMd0I)QQlqf4DcJbHSNnuWsBtOYl3yDr9XW0O NtIJXIr1vLgvYVxVQ1PGFDwqR9MG71uQBQzL7xpk!&WMContentBitrate=807000
but when I try to record it (with WM Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/streaming-video-recording-wmrecorder.htm), or 5 another recorders (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/all-streaming-video-recording-software.htm) that I've been using), there's sth completely different downloading to my drive :confused:

How to record/download the proper stream ?

Each time you try to get the URL, the timestamp changes

mms://stream.tv4.se/2006-05-09/mera_motor!52044,W3L!.wmv?secure=ELJyQHVKuRIgy9UCD L18kGFQBgGTIiBMd0I)QQlqf4DcJbHSNnuWsBtOYl3yDr9XW0O NtIJXIr1vLgvYVxVQ1PGFDwqR9MG71uQBQzL7xpk!&WMConten tBitrate=807000

Have you tried to record it in the Ada or Pro mode with WM Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/streaming-video-recording-wmrecorder.htm)?

Yes, I've tried both modes in WM Recorder.

About this timestamp, there's a line in metafile.asx:
<STARTTIME VALUE="7279"/>
and it's different in every file I've been trying to download, so maybe that's the problem...

Timestamp is usually used for a temporary access to a stream (to allow an access to a stream for a restricted group of users). Timestamps usually expire so a stream URL is valid for a limited time.

And timestamps have nothing to do with start time and duration.

Every time I tried to save the .asx metafile I received the same value
<STARTTIME VALUE="7259"/>

The start time and duration will be different for other streams.

And you can't just get the URL of the mms stream here and record it. You should take start time and duration into the consideration.

To record such streams you have to use WM Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/streaming-video-recording-wmrecorder.htm) in the Pro or Ada mode
--or--
You can use a stream recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/all-streaming-video-recording-software.htm) like Replay A/V (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-AV-capture-Streaming-Video-Audio-Radio-Shows-Online-TV-Broadcasts-Video-Clips-Audio-Archives-Podcasts-Free-to-try.htm), Mass Downloader (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Download-manager-Mass-Downloader-Record-HTTP-MMS-MMST-RTSP-PNM-media-streams-Free-download.htm), NetTransport (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/record-streaming-video-windows-media-and-real-video.htm#NetTransport), HiDownload (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/HiDownload-capturing-streaming-video-and-audio-downloading-movie-streams-record-Internet-radio.htm), WM Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/streaming-video-recording-wmrecorder.htm) (in the URL mode) that can postprocess .asx metafile and record the stream using start time and duration values.

I've tried all of these stream recorders and they gave me absolutely identical results that has nothing to do with the video I really wanna get. I even tried to enter start and end time in Net Transport, but I was unable to play the recorded video.

I've contacted the developers. Let's see how they can help.

What kind of problem with WM Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/streaming-video-recording-wmrecorder.htm) did you have? Does it record a different video? Or does it have a problem when recording?

Every recorder I have tried records different stream (I mean different than you can see watching it in www browser).

Works for me, in HiDownload (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/HiDownload-capturing-streaming-video-and-audio-downloading-movie-streams-record-Internet-radio.htm). Downloads mera_motor!52044,W3L!.wmv, 1.6GB

If you have unlimited broadband internet access, you can download the full file.

The problem is how to download a part of it. When you start a browser window
http://www.tv4.se/player/categories.aspx?treeId=4014&pid=54529&more=1
the stream is played not from the start, but from 2:36:01 and plays only several minutes.

Hi there

Is there a solution for this by now?

I just tried downloading a another clip from the same site (tv4.se). I get a large file with the whole program (about 1.5 GB in size) but I only want the small clip that the web browser shows.

NetTransport (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/NetXFer-Saving-Windows-Media-Real-Audio-Video-QT-streaming-to-hd.htm) resolves the .asx but ignores the duration and starttime tags.

Can some other download manager handle starttime/duration in ASX files? Alternatively, can some download manager handle if I somehow put the starttime and duration as command line parameters at the end of the stream MMS url and then save that segment?

As mentioned in our FAQ How to record Windows Media (Audio and Video) streams in parts (http://all-streaming-media.com/faq/recording-media-stream/faq-record-stream-in-parts-stream-start-and-end-times.htm), WM Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/WMRecorder-One-click-online-audio-video-stream-recorder.htm) and NetTransport (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/NetXFer-Saving-Windows-Media-Real-Audio-Video-QT-streaming-to-hd.htm) can record Windows Media stream in parts.
