If you right click the SynceTrayIcon and choose "Explorer with filemanager" in Ubuntu 9.10, Nautilus can show the following error:

Could not display "synce:// "your phone name"
Nautilus cannot handle "synce" locations.

Go to "System" -> "Administration" -> "Software Sources".
Click on "Other Software".
Click the "Add" button.
At the command APT line enter:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/synce/ubuntu karmic main
Click the "+add source" again.
Click the "Close" button.
Click the "Reload" button.
Then in the Terminal run
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install synce-gvfs
Reboot

Alternative solution #1 to the synce problem with Nautilus:

Could not display "synce:// "your phone name"
Nautilus cannot handle "synce" locations.

WM5Storage (http://www.modaco.com/content/smartphone-software-freeware-download-discussion/238545/wm5torage/) allows to solve the problem with Nautilus.
If you activate the program, you will be able to access your smartphone as a regular USB Mass Storage device (ordinary "usb disk"). If you deactivate the program, ActiveSync will be used instead. WM5Storage works on Windows Mobile 5 or 6.

Alternative solution #2 to the synce problem with Nautilus:

Could not display "synce:// "your phone name"
Nautilus cannot handle "synce" locations.
Install gpe-filemanager in Ubuntu. This GUI file manager allows to transfer files to/from your PDA.
