I tried upgrading my windows media player and it said to validate. I clicked it and it told me it couldn't do it. Now I can't even go back to my old player because it wants me to validate.

Try to boot in the safe mode and use a restore point where your WMP was working.

You can also use players like VLC, SMPlayer for videos and players like AIMP, Winamp, Foobar, iTunes to play audio files.
