I can't download video from Hulu with GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm), and I get lots of complains from others. Can you record from Hulu with it?
Do you know any streaming video recording tool that can record from Hulu?

Hulu streams videos in up to 4 different streaming qualities, for example for some arbitrary movie: 384x288 @256kbps (labelled as "400K"), 382x288 @392kbps ("480K"), 480x360 @456kbps ("650K"), 640x480 @960kbps ("1000K"). And Hulu Plus streams in HD quality (720p or 1080p who the fuck knows or cares). GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) can download and convert Hulu.com videos now. It catches all the url's of the different streaming qualities, and for each streaming quality (say, "Bitrate: 1000K / Title: (720 x 720)...") three alternative streaming url's are caught with the following format:
rtmpe://hulu-150.fcod.llnwd.net:1935/a4957/o23?sessionid=***&as=adobe-hmac-sha256&av=1&te=connect&mp=150/50143150&et=1305445155&fmta-token=***&hgt=***=&hgt_ver=331370278

original full-length url's for a movie in "1000K" would be:

In theory all 3 url's can be downloaded (and then you have 3 copies of the same movie lol) but it appears that the llnwd and fplive are easier/faster to download than the edgefcs url. In any case you should select all three url's and try to download them at once ("a race!"). Note that every Hulu video should be available in different streaming qualities. If a movie appears to be streaming in 1 bitrate only, e.g. in medium quality 650K @ llnwd + fplive + edgefcs, then hit the "Update"-button for the "480p"-selection (radio button) and the "1000K"-url is generated by the webpage and caught by GFLV:
http://img804.imageshack.us/img804/2803/snap5.th.jpg (http://img804.imageshack.us/img804/2803/snap5.jpg), http://img709.imageshack.us/img709/8472/snap1w.th.gif (http://img709.imageshack.us/img709/8472/snap1w.gif)
Also note that you must not shut down your proxy server shortly before you start the download (as is possible with the cookie-based Amazon Instant Video (http://stream-recorder.com/forum/recording-amazon-instant-video-demand-vod-t8884.html)). Right when you start the download and GetFLV connects to the streaming server (e.g. fplive), the server checks if your location (IP address) is U.S.A. or non-US: it doesnt set cookies but checks your IP location in realtime!
But maybe the most important point is: Resuming is indeed possible (even if it is not the most straight forward or flawless matter)! Let's assume you have chosen to download a 1000K-bitrate video from a llnwd url and for some unknown reason the download stalls, say at 38%, it means that the connection got lost -> The icon is still green but no data is being transferred. Then just hit the Stop(ll) button and the icon turns orange(ll). Hit on Start(>) and the icon turns green(>). After some seconds the icon turns red(X) and you should get the following warning message:
http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/9157/snap6.gif (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/199/snap6.gif/)
Click on Yes and wait to see what happens: In the 'FLV Browser' a new tab opens up with the same video webpage. While the webpage is being loaded (afresh), GetFLV catches its streaming url's. When it catches some url which looks pretty much identical to your stalled download url, then right-click on it and 'Download!'. If none of the caught/captured url's look similar, then you must reload the very wegpage as often until GFLV catches urls with the desired stream url looks: the server must match (e.g. llnwd vs. llnwd) and the bitrate must match (e.g. 1000K vs. 1000K). When you now try to download the 1000K stream --under certain circumstances GFLV automatically tries to download it!!--, you will notice that no new (or additional) file download is initiated by GFLV. Instead, GFLV resumes your existing download which had stalled at 38%. Resuming with the above procedure works very well up to 3, 4 or 5 times (if your download really stalls that often!). After that it becomes more likely that GFLV does add a new (i.e. additional) 1000K-file download to your download queue and begins at 0% so that you're downloading now 2 files (the same video: 1 stalled at 38%, and 1 beginning at 0%). At this point keep trying. Resuming a 6th, 7th time, etc. is still possible although generating a valid resume url (for the 38% file) becomes harder (and less likely). As a general rule, if your download is at an early stage (e.g. 18% of a total 995MB-sized video) and you already needed to resume it more than 3x (because your download stalled that often between 0% and the 18%!), then i would recommend giving up on that ugly file (or is the server ugly? :D) and it's more advisable to redownload the 1000K-quality video from scratch (0%). And maybe this time, better choose the fplive url. :)

I did download the trial version, It is working ok, I have 14 days left for the trial to expire. I cannot afford to buy it now. I hope I could win a free subscription, and become one of your field testers. I do not know if one can download the Hi-Res videos with GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm). It does a very good job in the 480P mode. Congratulations.

Programs like Jaksta (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Jaksta-Streaming-Media%20Recorder-and-Converter.htm) shouldn't have problems with low-resolution Hulu videos.
As for RTMPE videos... it seems like rtmpdump (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/rtmpdump-freeware-console-RTMP-downloading-application.htm) is the only program that can download them.

I have a message for you from a developer of stream recording software who decided to stay anonymous:
I thought that I would send you a PM about it and you might want to reply with some advise for them or even contact them directly before they get sued.
All Hulu content now has copy protection mechanisms on it (SWF Verification) when streamed via the Hulu site.
Fancast.com still has non copy protected content from Hulu that can be recorded, with RTMP Flash stream recorders (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/record-streaming-video-Adobe-Flash-FLV-videos.htm) (Editor's note: Product name has been changed to general term).
As they are breaking the copy protection mechanism I give them a month before Adobe has started legal proceedings against them just like they did to Applian and the take down notice Source Forge got for rtmpdump including having to provide the developers names so adobe could sue them directly.
GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) is based out of Germany. Same rules apply there as they do in the states.
It will be a pitty to see talented developers get sued again - although I imagine that they have just used the rtmpdump (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/rtmpdump-freeware-console-RTMP-downloading-application.htm) code. My advice would be to remove the SWF Verification from their product before its to late.
I bet not all competitors of GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) are so friendly. My advice would be to remove SWF verification a.s.a.p.
p.s. I wonder how soon we will see any products supporting RTMPE and/or SWF verification from the companies based in China or say Antigua and whether Adobe will be able to do anything about it.

illegal downloading is very common in China
but it seems no one is wise enough to make an application to download/capture RTMPE/SWF Verification stuff

I tested GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) 8.8.18 for several hours last night. It is working with hulu, but it seems that it is rather unpredictable as to which bitrate file it will download. Sometimes it will download the lowest res file, even though the flash player is playing the 700k file. Getflv was able to download two 480p files, but I was unable to download 480p consistently, it just happened a couple of times - even though the flash player wasn't even playing the 480p file (it was playing the 700k file).
So it seems that getflv 8.8.18 just needs a little more work with the playlist/urls that it grabs from hulu.

GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) 8.8.21 is a lot better. This version now always gives two download links, one of which is h.264 (hi res). However, there are still a few issues:
1. The playlist sent by hulu usually will have 4-6 entries, usually with text such as this:
24fps_H264_400K
24fps_H264_650K
24fps_H264_Medium
24fps_H264_1Mbps
Getflv 8.8.21 usally grabs the link to "24fps_H264_Medium", which is fine - but sometimes it only grabs the link to "24fps_H264_400K" even though "24fps_H264_Medium" is available for that title. Getflv should try to grab all the links in the playlist, although I realize that this may confuse some users.
2. Getflv 8.8.21 is successfully finishing the h.264 downloads (the full file has been 100% downloaded), however the download list in Getflv will show something like 73% and a red X - which the user might interpret to mean that the transfer interrupted when it really has finished. Also, because of this, Getflv won't move the file to finished downloads - but it really has finished.
3. The newest h.264 codec used on hulu, cbs, and others doesn't play smoothly and in sync in nearly all flv players (including Getflv's own player). But the file is 100% perfect, it can be played back perfectly with the right codec - and also, mplayer encoder will transcode it perfectly to another format. This may confuse users also, but the most important thing is that Getflv downloads the file exactly as sent by the server.

Two possible issues:
1. If you're using the demo version of GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm), it will not download more than around 10mb of the file.
2. If you're using the registered getflv version, but have downloaded a h.264 file (from hulu or many other sites) and getflv shows a red "x mark" - but the percentage downloaded shows around 73.x%, then the full file has probably downloaded.
This is because of the flv container currently used by hulu and other sites. Getflv doesn't interpret the time code data and length properly for these sorts of files - but getflv has downloaded the complete original file. You'll need a very updated flv codec and player in order to directly play these flv files from hulu properly. Or, it may just be easier to transcode them before you play them.

I looked at "The Three Stooges - Disorder In The Court".
It seems the problem is that there really isn't a high quality (what hulu calls "480p") version on hulu's server for this episode. There is only the standard quality file. So, GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) is grabbing a link to a H264_400k file that isn't there. Plus, getflv is not picking up the standard quality link for some of these episodes.
To demonstrate this, try the episode "The Three Stooges - Hoi-Polloi":
http://www.hulu.com/watch/23064
For that episode, getflv does find the standard quality link, and is able to download.
So, it seems that getflv needs some more work for these particular episodes to make sure it gets the correct high quality link, and also always gets the standard quality link too.
I should also mention that getflv occasionally has a run-away memory leak problem; at times it can grab over a gigabyte of memory.

We have released a new version (GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm)). Problem 1 and 2 have been repaired now. Please install and check it.

We have released a new version (GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) 8.8.24). You can download "http://www.hulu.com/watch/23064" now.

Thanks blimey for your reply, very clear explanation. I will try your suggestion, to download the episode "The Three Stooges - Hoi-Polloi". I do enjoy reading about the technical aspects of GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm). It is the best program to capture these hard-to-capture-streams. Great Program and keeps getting better.,. I would like to be a GETFLV beta tester.

As the getflv guy mentioned a few messages back, 8.8.24 now finds all the urls, so all three stooges should work now.
Note, however, that old stuff like three stooges and bewitched only have the standard quality (what hulu calls "360p") actually on the server. So only that link will actually download.
You can tell that only the standard quality is available for that old stuff because even when you click between 360p and 480p in the flash player window, the video will look exactly the same in both modes.

When I download videos from Hulu at 700K stream quality, the playback video exhibits a double image bar across the bottom of the screen. Also, at times, the playback video will freeze and the audio will continue to play normally. I tried different flash players, they all play these videos showing the same problem. If any member has any idea in how to correct the problem, the help will be most appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not having any trouble with 700k videos (which are not h.264).
All of the h.264 videos, on the other hand, require much extra care to play or transcode. The problem is that the way GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) is building the flv file from the stream is a little bit of a kludge in regard to the way it is time-coded. You may notice that h.264 downloads go past 100%. This is related to this issue.
However, EffectMatrix Total Video Player (http://stream-recorder.com/forum/showpost.php?p=12724&postcount=5) plays them back pretty well. And - believe it or not - the files actually play even better once transcoded to another format like xvid.
The best* transcoder for the files produced by GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) is Format Factory (http://all-streaming-media.com/convert-audio-video-files/FormatFactory-freeware-media-file-converter-for-Windows.htm). You just need to be careful to set the framerate to that of the original flv file.
So, my suggestion is to try EffectMatrix Total Video Player (http://stream-recorder.com/forum/showpost.php?p=12724&postcount=5) to play the file, or try to transcode it to xvid with Format Factory (http://all-streaming-media.com/convert-audio-video-files/FormatFactory-freeware-media-file-converter-for-Windows.htm).
If none of these work, provide the link/title to program you're having trouble with.
-----
*While GUI based transcoding utilities like Format Factory and FLV to Video Converter Pro 2 are good for transcoding flv files (for the average user), these utilities generally will not provide as good results as command line programs like ffmeg, mencoder, etc. It is possible to remux a h.264/aac flv file into an mp4 file or mkv file without any transcoding - using the command line programs.

The 700k file downloaded fully with getflv and played back completely with both getflv's player and applian's flv player.
The Medium/h264 file doesn't download, but as I mentioned before, I don't think h264 files are really there for this particular content.
I'm using v8.8.29 of GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm). I was able to duplicate the problem you describe on the episode 'Three Little Beers'. It also stops at 16:31. I'm not sure what the issue is yet. However, the episode listing states that the episode should be 16:31 in total. So it seems that GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) is not building the file correctly, as it gets to 16:31 before the show is over. I've seen this before, but in those cases the video would continue playing past the end time. I will run another test with a different method and report the results.
Edit: it seems that for VP6 files (like 480k, 700k), the full episode will download. h264 (Medium, 650k, 400k, 1Mbps) will come up short.

Using rtmpdump (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/rtmpdump-freeware-console-RTMP-downloading-application.htm), I have confirmed that the full h264/1Mbps file is being sent by the server for the title; 'Three Little Beers'
So, it seems that the problem of closing the file prematurely, at least for this title, is a bug of GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm).
You can check this yourself by using getflv 8.8.21, which will work for this title. It will stop at 73%, but the full file has downloaded. But, 8.8.21 only finds some of the urls.
So, if you want this fixed, you should report it to getflv. Be sure to mention that they have to test it on the h264 versions of specific titles, and that they must download the entire program and check the end of the downloaded file.

Ok, good. A big issue with GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) is to really nail down the time coding/indexing for h264 .flv files so that the timecounter is exactly accurate.
If the bug doesn't get fixed fast enough for you, you can use rtmp.dll from 8.8.21 with 8.8.35 and it will work. The percentages in the download list will be all screwy though.

I forgot to mention that when using rtmp.dll from 8.8.21, the index of the saved .flv file will be off. This may cause playability issues with some .flv players.
You can remux the file into a .mp4 file quickly without any transcoding, and the index will be correct.

Blimey, I was able to finally download this episode. It cuts off at 16 minutes and 31 seconds, I was able to download the medium stream only. Using version 8.8.35, the size of the file is only 107.94MB, I think it should be around 130.00MB.
Dear Borboleta and Blimey:

Yes, with version 8.8.38, you finally have the index/timecoding done perfectly on the raw saved .flv files, including all of the h264 .flv files.
This means that even the getflv flv player (or almost any flv player) will now play the .flv files smothly and with accurate time information.
There is one issue, however. Sometimes getflv will save a .flv file with a filename that includes "%20". If any .flv filename contains "%", the getflv player will not open that file. However, the getflv player will open the file if the user renames it, removing any occurrences of "%".

Hi GetFlv, when playing back the downloaded "The Three Stooges", "Bewitched", "I Dream of Jeannie" episodes on Hulu, at medium and 1Mbps streams , the video will freeze at the same point, but the audio continues, The only solution I have found to cure this problem is to use the latest version of FlvExtract and Yamb, so that I can demux the video file to .mp4 video and .aac audio. I am using Zoomplayer. But the problem is the same with other flv players. Thanks again for developing this great program.

I'm not having that problem. Is this content that you have freshly downloaded with 8.8.38? Of course, any content downloaded with previous versions may have the problem. Do you have this problem even with getflv's flv player? Do you have any codec packs or splitters installed on your system? Have you tried playing the files on another computer? Which OS are you using?
I re-downloaded "Three Little Beers" with 8.8.38, and it plays till the end with a length of 16:31 using the getflv player and some other players.
Can you confirm that you have the same problem using SMPlayer (http://smplayer.berlios.de/), or with EffectMatrix Total Video Player (http://stream-recorder.com/forum/showpost.php?p=12724&postcount=5) - or with any player while having the CoreAVC codec (http://www.coreavc.com/) installed?
Does the flv file still convert with Format Factory (http://all-streaming-media.com/convert-audio-video-files/FormatFactory-freeware-media-file-converter-for-Windows.htm)? If not, the remuxed mp4 should work the same as input to Format Factory.
Also, version 8.8.39 is out but I don't know what the changes are.

What I am experiencing is that the video freezes and the audio continues to play with the downloaded episodes( in any stream and format). The episodes are fully downloaded with GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) 8.8.39. To correct this, I use FLVExtract and Yamb, thus I end up with .mp4 video and aac audio files that play perfectly with Zoom Player, BsPlayer. FileFactory accomplishes the same, even though much slower than using FLVExtract and Yamb.
I have tried to use EffectMatrix Total Video Player with CoreAvc. With EffectMatrix Total Video Player I receive "cannot init video renderer" error. I am sure I need to set up CoreAvc to play the files using this player I have not tried SmPlayer yet. I will report later on using it to play the regular .flv, flv. h264, .mp4 , .aac formats.
ZoomPlayer and Bsplayer use Ffdshow codecs. Both players will exhibit the same problem of video freeze and audio continuing to play (downloaded formats.flv , flv.H264, aac audio).

How was it fixed? I didn't download a new version of getflv.
GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) is in repeated contact with the author's/publisher's server. Every time the program is started, it downloads key files - including a kernel and swf code, from the server. If these files stay the same, it just downloads the same files upon every execution. But if they change, the program gets updated with the new files. In this case it was the swf code that fixed the problem.
I suspect that the problem was related to getflv's method of grabbing the urls and/or playlist. But FDRLab's various programs didn't have the problem - so whatever method they use must not have been effected.

I have the same problem. I found out that my problem is caused by my Internet provider service, download speeds are poor at times at my end. I usually download one show at the time. Try to download one show at the time, and find out your download speeds.. Use SpeedTest to verify that your Internet Provider is delivering the speed you are paying for. Good Luck.

The speed is fixed for live streams. Also when you capture packets from a streaming player, you get stream media from it in real time or as fast as the player buffering the media stream. But when you download an on-demand stream, it can be several times faster than in real time.
I have noticed that GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) is crashy. It does seem to be less crashy if only one download is in progress. It also seems to be less crashy on windows 7 compared to XP, and on newer intel cpus compared to some older amd cpus. I don't know the cause of this crashiness.
save2pc Ultimate (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/save2pc-Rip-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) doesn't crash (for me) at all, even with multiple downloads in progress.

The speed of the download is fixed by the server because it is streaming in play-time. It sends at a rate equivalent to what is required for the flash player to play it. More bandwidth won't increase the speed of any individual stream capture for this particular source. The download should take the same amount of time as it would take to play the entire program.

My problem with GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) crashing has always been caused by slow or erratic Internet speeds. Yes, I can only download one file at the time. Well, I am glad I can still do that since these streams are pretty difficult to grab for downloading, and I can choose which stream to download from. Now, I have a new problem, and it seems to be only with Hulu . Hulu keeps saying "Unfortunately, this video is not available on your platform". This happens with GETFLV and Internet Explorer 8, so I can not watch the video, but I can still download it as usual. I wonder if any of our members are experiencing this problem. It does not happen with Firefox. Of course, Hulu uses Internet Explorer engine for the downloads. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

One more thing, the converter part doesn't work well either. The converted files start out in sync and then very rapidly get out of sync. In the first few minutes it's off by a couple of frames, but after about ten minutes it's off by a few seconds. It's not a big deal though, I can always use some other software to do the conversions. I've tested xvid avi, ipod mp4, and supervcd and they all do the same thing.

This is due to the flv container bug in GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm). I have suggested the problem to getflv, but maybe getflv could just compare the flv container built by save2pc Ultimate (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/save2pc-Rip-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm), as it is built correctly for flv files containing h264.
I'm not necessarily recommending save2pc ultimate over getflv, as each program can download sources that the other can't. It is handy to have both programs. The various sites have definitely been trying to stop both programs over that past couple of weeks, so frequent updating is required.
Which player do you use for playback to your tv? You mentioned avi, but what codecs are supported by your player in the avi container? There may be a faster method to get the files in a format compatible with your set-top player.

I forgot to mention that when using rtmp.dll from 8.8.21, the index of the saved .flv file will be off. This may cause playability issues with some .flv players.
You can remux the file into a .mp4 file quickly without any transcoding, and the index will be correct.

Ok Here's what I've been able to test so far, downloading from hulu works great. It did stop on me a few times and guess what? I was able to restart the download. It did take a really long time to download after it picked up though. I could have restarted the download from scratch and finished it faster, but I wanted to see if this was working.
One thing that I find really annoying is the preview, when I click on the file while it's downloading it starts to play immediately I wish we could turn that off. Cause once it starts it seems like there's no way to turn it off. If you're downloading multiple files the audio starts playing over each other. I did convert a couple of test files to avi and no more sync problem yay!!!! The software does not crash anymore, actually I don't think GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) has crashed since 8.8.51 Good job guys:) :D

You should be able to get the preview to stop playing by clicking on anywhere in the empty space of the download list.

Yes that does work, but sometimes the audio doesn't stop then commercials from hulu kick in. It turns into a big mess, I have to close the program to get it to stop. It doesn't happen if you only download one or two clips. If you try to do 3 or more it starts to act up.

As of today 11/06/2009, GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) has stopped working on hulu.com. I get the "This video is not currently available for this site, but you can view this and other Hulu videos on Hulu.com" error in place of where the video would have been. No link shows up and when it does on a rare occassion it won't download. I've been using 8.8.6.8 and I tried it on Windows 7 and Windows Vista system with the latest version of Flash installed. It was working as of yesterday 11/5/09. Did hulu change something? Is there something that Getflv can to do get it working again? Is anyone else having the same problem? Thanks.

lobstersushi: Yes, what you describe does seem to be the case. GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) uses the bsalsa embedded web browser component pack in order to interface with IE. I suspect that some user agent detection is happening, or something similar. This has been done at least once before, and is an individualized attempt to specifically block getflv.

No, GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) 8.8.6.9 works. You may see the error at least one more time until the cookies are replaced. Try reloading the page several times in getflv. If the error doesn't stop, clear all cookies in IE manually. Also, for this version only the URL being played will be displayed. 480p needs to be selected and played to see its link.

I can confirm that GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) Pro will in fact capture RTMPE streams, from Hulu anyway as of December 2009. Lots of programs that previously worked, like Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-HTTP-RTMP-FLV-MP3-ripper-recorder.htm), stopped working when Hulu switched to RTMPE, or can capture only low-quality streams. You can always use screen capture utilities (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-from-screen/) of course, but I'm not a big fan since these will add another decode/recode process further degrading the image quality. They will work with just about anything though, including the Move Networks stuff that appears to have no other solution...

I have a new version of rtmpsuck that can capture a Hulu stream that is opened by the regular Flash client. (Thus we let the real client perform the handshake.) Still don't have the handshake deciphered, so there's still no support yet in rtmpdump (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/rtmpdump-freeware-console-RTMP-downloading-application.htm) itself.

I have used your product and have been thus far been very happy with it. I only purchased it for use on the HULU website and purchased it with lifetime upgrades. For the past four weeks there have not been any updates to correct the issues experienced with Hulu.com. But you are continuing to sell the product stating that it does.
Since you are not letting your customers know what the status of any future updates are, responding to my email request or following thru on your promise of updates; I can only conclude that you are knowingly defrauding the general public.
Odd that it has to come to this because you really do have a great product, when it works.

I just tried to grab the first Episode of Firefly from HULU. No matter what I try it does not work.
I either get the "X" (white x in a red circle) next to the name, OR it instantly downloads (which I know it can't be doing for a nearly 1.5 hour show) with no progress indication, just an instant green check mark.
Upon checking such files, I soon discovered they are 1kb in size ... obviously not a real FLV file. I tried every single stream that GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) presented (400k, 650k, 700k, Medium, etc., etc.) None of them worked. I was hoping this was the answer, but apparently it is just another piece of software promising something it can in no way deliver. Is HULU changing the coding (or whatever it is) that fast?
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,

What am I doing wrong ... do you perhaps require a certain browser type or version? I use Firefox almost exclusively, so my IE is only V6 as I never need or want to update it. Could that be the issue?

GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) is dependent on IE. So IE (and the flash components installed for IE) must be current enough to play the content. The usual way to check this is to see if the hulu video plays in IE.
I also don't ordinarily use IE, but I have v8 installed along with the newest flash player.

It plays just fine in IE, always has, so I guess that is not it. Unless there IS some component in IE7 or 8 that GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) relies on that we are unaware of at this point.

That could be an issue since GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) uses IE and I think Hulu uses a higher version of IE but I'm not certain. I know it works on my end with GetFLV 8.8.9.2 and IE8. Could also be that flash needs to be updated for IE too.

I am using GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) 8.8.9.3 (although the Title Bar says 8.8.9.5) on Win/XP SP3. I use Firefox 3.5.8 as my Browser but have IE 6.0.2900.5512 also. I have a DSL connection going through a Westell 2200 cable modem.
The only way that I could get GetFLV to work properly was the change the Security Level on my cable mode firewall from "Medium" to "Low".
Now I can download even the Hi-Res HuLu streams. I switch back the security level to "Medium" when I'm finished downloading.
Since finding this fix, I am totally pleased with GetFLV

funny thread with a poll, lol!
i've test installed the latest version of GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) (8.9.4.2) and visited hulu, myspace, and crunchyroll.
it sometimes catches a url. rare thing. didn't download any of the secure rtmp (rtmp, rtmpe, rtmps) links.
i will give it another try on another pc (a cleaner pc ;) ) but if it fails again, fare well.
EDIT:
i've tried GetFLV on a clean PC. no results on Hulu. it does download songs from myspace. and on colbertnation.com is downloads only 31secs and in §$%&!ly manipulated video resolution (dimensions). the resolution is lower! verdict: if you're new to video stream downloaders, you will like getflv because it has a beautiful and functional GUI (graph. user interface). Very logical (and not too difficult to understand). it does download your secured/protected/encrypted video streams (hulu, etc.) but as long as you dont pay 50bucks, your videos are just 30secs in length (and in reduced resolution).

I tried GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) many times, and always get very low speed, and not only with RTMP/E websites, but with normal HTTP ones. For example with YouTube, I get 30-50 KB/s, as an average d/l speed; and 100-110 KB/s, as peak d/l speeds. And with RTMP/E sites like Crunchyroll, its even worse, I get 20-25 KBs as an average d/l speeds, and 30-40 KB/s as peak speeds.
It would be good if GetFLV has an options to split the d/l processes in threads, which would improve itself the d/l speeds significantly.
With other free programs like, StreamTransport (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/StreamTransport-Download-HTTP-RTMP-RTMPE-streams.htm) or CooJah + Blader (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Blader-freeware-RTMP-downloader.htm) (which I can split the d/l in 10 threads), I can download with much greater speeds.
By the way, the program's GUI is very buggy and unstable, which makes quite difficult to use it.
I'm afraid GetFLV really needs to fix these crucial problems, if they wanna give some decency and quality to their program; otherwise, there are others excellent quality alternatives already available, and even great free ones, to choose from.

I might give StreamTransport (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/StreamTransport-Download-HTTP-RTMP-RTMPE-streams.htm) a shot...what is your average when using it (StreamTransport) ?
And what do you think might be the reason for GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) slow downloads?
Edit: I just tried StreamTransport on a video from Hulu and in the top box (search box) inside of the S.T. Browser it had this in every link:
http://static.ak.fbcdn.net/connect/xd_proxy.php#cb=f2273716b4e9356&origin=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hulu.com%2Ff30489f2ee13fac&relation=parent&transport=flash&frame=f3b586a7348ee3
Is StreamTransport using a Proxy to search within their browser?? If so...wouldn't that slow the downloads down a GREAT BIT ?

Hi guys!
First off, great ressource this forum is!
So I managed to get Firefox to show me Hulu.com videos even if I'm out of the US, but then Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-HTTP-RTMP-FLV-MP3-ripper-recorder.htm) 4 does not capture RTMPE streams even with the latest rtmpdump (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/rtmpdump-freeware-console-RTMP-downloading-application.htm) plugin :(
I heard GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) still does the job, but the problem is that I can't get Hulu to think I'm from the US due to it's relatively non customizable options of it's browser.
AFAIK, GetFLV gets its proxy/connection settings from IE's.
I was not able to view Hulu videos with IE until I installed and enabled Fiddler2 and added:
oSession.oResponse.headers.Add("X-Forwarded-For", "<random US based IP");
in the OnBeforeRequest function of Fiddler2's CustomRules (Ctrl-R)
Apparently, GetFLV does not used the "fiddled" settings so there is no way for GetFLV to spoof me :(
Any ideas ?
Thanks.

hi. i tested GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) positive on the Hulu website, that is correct. I am not sure but GFLV adopts proxying information from your system's standard web browser application software tool. If your standard browser (or default browser) is Firefox, then it will use Firefox web browsing technology in its GUI. but i am not sure as i said. some getflv tech support should explain the details.
i dont live in USA and i dont have any interest in watching Hulu. that's why i dont know of any recommendable FREE solution for US-outsiders like you and me. Watching Hulu from US-surrounding countries like Hawaii, Seattle, Canada, or Alaska territories :D is always possible if you are willing to pay for some vpn subscription service with a monthly fee.
I performed my Hulu w/GFLV testing with a temporary proxy of type B-3 (afaik) and with such a setup you can download only 300MB videos. (and my chosen B3 had many downsides, so i wont recommend or detail on this, sorry)
The vast majority of other proxy types (A series, C series) dont work with Hulu, and you'll get some error message by Hulu saying "you are trying to access Hulu with proxy methods from outside the US, sorry". Hulu is very smart in this respect. Whenever it detects any kind of proxy (it is very easy to tell if someone's using a proxy or not. i can tell.), it refuses to play/stream the ****ographic material :D
If Hulu is important to you, then invest in some vpn service (there are hundreds (or thousands?) of offers on google.com!!), also get a purchased version of GetFLV (the Golden Version) (the Pro Version wont help ... ;) ), and then you're all set. vpn costs maybe US$2.99 per month if you go for the cheapest.
Good luck. And no more fiddeling!! :p
Get more information here:
http://stream-recorder.com/forum/hulu-becoming-smarter-and-asking-no-more-t8641.html
According to that information, Hotspot Shield (http://all-streaming-media.com/links/hotspotshield.htm) is a working FREE solution.

I can view Hulu from both IE and Firefox fine now, but still, I will get the annoying "You're not from the US" popup in the GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) browser.
I do not want to invest in an option that Hulu can just blacklist on any given day.

yayah. GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) isnt perfect (neither are the other download tools).. and with some websites it takes some trying and re-trying and re-trying (=restarting the appz, or reloading the webpages) until it does what we expect it to do.
Just figure how complicated or complex webpages nowadays are.
But you name it. In the end and after all, if you try a bit.. you'll be able to download the hulu stuff, thanks to GFLV. This is where are other tools fail because they're not uptodate anymore.
So thanks to this forum, you got the info how to save your Hulu stuff. And congrats to you that you've been a successful applicant of that knowledge.

I can watch Hulu videos (from outside the US) trough Firefox (default browser) fine using the firewall method + X-Forwarded-For method that was probably documented here numerous times.
I think GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) needs to focus on one browser technology and really import all of its settings like plugins but within its own browser. The bit that's missing seems to be the fact that in Firefox I'm using the "Modify Headers" plugin to spoof my country of origin, but GetFLV doesn't use the plugin in its browser :(
EDIT: Using Procmon, I monitored GetFLV and it seemed to be peering into my Firefox favorites -- I guess for data mining purposes LOL.

Today is Monday. For the sake of supporting GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm), i have subscribed to paid vpn services. And what can i say? GetFLV still works like a charm!! Here a coherent series of screenshots of a video aired/broadcasted/posted today, Monday 2004-04-04. This is a brand new (short) video on Hulu!!
http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/6292/snap1bl.th.jpg (http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/6292/snap1bl.jpg) , http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/605/snap2ll.th.jpg (http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/605/snap2ll.jpg) , http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/7203/snap3w.th.jpg (http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/7203/snap3w.jpg)
Conclusion:
proxies of the cheaper :D types (A series, C series) dont work well with Hulu (or GetFLV), but a robust vpn should work -- as i have (again) proven here.
strafingmoose
04-04-2011, 05:26 PM
My point was that in Firefox, I do not need any such proxies to view Hulu videos out of the US.
I block a few ports, use the "Modify Headers" add-on, there it is.
GetFLV does not seem to import fully the default browser's plugins and addons.
placebo

*OIC*.
ok, i get your point. In both cases (yours vs. mine) we need to employ some tricks to watch Hulu in our preferred browsers from outside of the US. You do it with ports blocking and plugins, in Firefox, and i do it with vpn services which works with Firefox, rtmpdump (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/rtmpdump-freeware-console-RTMP-downloading-application.htm) ( ), and Internet Explorer.
the difference is that at the current state GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) works very well with my trick (vpn) while it doesnt work so well (yet) with your trick.
If we are lucky some day in future GetFLV will work with Hulu without the use of vpn services (my trick). I wouldnt mind. Would save me some monthly bucks :p
Till that day (may come), paid vpn is probably the most robust strategy to download Hulu videos with GetFLV from outside the US. Proxy types are easily recognized (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hulu) by Hulu and not yet officially implemented in GetFLV's software architecture.

Has anyone been able to download Hulu Plus files? I am trying to download the 720p files (having a resolution of 1280 by 720). Has anyone been able to do this?
Testing for the sake of testing.

GFLV 9.0.0.5 catches the url's (different resolution dimensions and bitrate) but doesnt download any of them.
testpage url:
_http://www.hulu.com/watch/233350/parenthood-hard-times-come-again-no-more
Am i observing all this correctly?
+ when v8.9.9.9 was released, it worked with Hulu.
+ when v9.0.0.0 was released, it ("still") worked with Hulu.
+ i didnt test v9.0.0.1 - v9.0.0.3
+ when v9.0.0.5 was released, it stopped working with Hulu (because Hulu had altered something).
this looks like a cat & mouse game, and i am sure that the makers of Hulu are watching *us*. when they get to know that GFLV is working again, they alter something in their streaming server setup (configuration), and GFLV would stop working with Hulu. Then, another new version of GFLV needs to be released so that GFLV is working again with Hulu. And when Hulu gets to know that GFLV is working again, they alter ..etcetc..

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I downloaded the most recent version of GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) from the website, the trial. I wandered over to Hulu from its internal browser and started up one of the shows. A ton of RTMPE instances showed up. Not sure which to download for the show, I randomly tried several until saying "f**k it" and downloaded the whole lot.
It resulted in every instance with a Red X through it, and all corresponding .FLV files were 0k in size. What am I missing?
Man, I just want this so I can grab one freakin' show I missed on the weekend :P :)

you may want to publicize the testpage url (video link!) you are keen on. then other users can try to reproduce your red X's. your situation sounds good so far. it may be that the trial version of GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) doesnt allow you to download full-length videos.
You know, other stream catchers have similar limitations, see for example:
Demo mode is fully functional, except:
* You can download up to 50% of any on-demand audio or video clip. You can download 100% of any YouTube video.
* You can download up to one minute of any live stream from supported sites other than YouTube.
I hate trial limitations ("demo versions") too. ;)

I have not found GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) to work. At least the trial version does not work for Hulu downloading.
The website shows a single row to select for downloading. But when using it in the trial, it lists a dozen rows - you can't tell which one is the right one for the Hulu video that is playing.
They also do not let you test a Hulu video during the trial. You get a message that the file is larger than allowed during the trial.
And they do not respond to emails abut the above two problems.

I'm having problems too.
Version 9.0.0.9 would seem to work, but then the download would get stuck at a different spot everytime I tried. It got stuck at 78%, then 80% the next time, and then the 3rd time it got up to 90.1% and got stuck. Tried another video and it got stuck around 45%.
I just updated to version 9.0.1.2 and I get the same message posted above about needing to update IE flash player. I updated flash to the lastest version and I still get the message every time I open GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm). + it is saturday, may 14th 2011
+ i have winxp and internet explorer 8 and flash 10.3.x installed
+ my default browser is IE8, and not Firefox
+ i have getflv 9.0.1.2 installed and it is a regged copy
+ i am able to catch the multiple url's of a latest Hulu show (friday, may 13th 2011) and downoad it complete in the highest quality
+ i dont get any flash player warning/error message issued by GFLV
The download once got stuck very early at ~17%.. but then i hit the stop button, and again start button (clicked "OK" on the little pop-up message window 'new authentication needed') and the download continued where it had left off. This procedure is called Resuming.
GFLV supports resuming, which is one of its very strenghts!!
I've updated to the latest version (9.0.2.0) and have no trouble with any regular hulu episodes/movies or regular hulu plus episodes/movies.

Hi;
I've been a registered user of GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) for a few months now and up until recently I've been very contented with my purchase.
Recently, however, new versions only let me download from RTMPE streams (mainly hulu) immediately after the first installation. I've been using 9.0.2.8 because that's the last version I could find that works, but recently it's been telling me it can't work with the latest flash player and won't record streams either.
I'll go on a video and instead of a list of available streams to record appearing, the list remains blank. The only way to fix this is to uninstall and then immediately re-install the program.
Before this I was seriously considering buying a lifetime licence, but this has been going on for a few months now and I am very dissatisfied with it.

I have just installed GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) 9.0.3.5 and downloaded a hulu video (i am from outside U.S.A.). no problems here!! at least 2 of the alternative urls for 1 streaming option (e.g. 1000K i.e. 480p) download fine.

That's what I used to see. I connect through a VPN as well, but I've never had any trouble with it. I'd ask you to close GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) and try again - my issue is that it works the first time you run it, but dies afterwards.
If you don't get any problem, I'll be at a loss, since you can probably verify through my email address that I am a genuine GetFLV subscriber.
[EDIT] It's working now...? I don't know. I'll keep you posted.

Actually, you can't. You're just showing off a JPG that is getting information about a user's IP address that is available publicly.

Same here, and the same error. I wonder what is going on.
It worked fine for me for many months, then a few weeks ago it went south and bombed out. Yes, I updated regularly.
The dang thing was always a pain. It would stop downloading between the 50 percent or 75 percent point. I always had to restart it, and doing that only worked half the time.
I have sent 5 e-mails to their so-called "support" without getting any answer. I spent $56 for a year's subscription. I was planning on paying the $156 for a lifetime subscription but not now.
Their not answering a single e-mail of mine tells me they are scammers. There is no reason on earth not to answer a customer's e-mails unless you are a scamming crook.
Unfortunately, they are the only ballgame in town that USED to work to download Hulu. I think Hulu finally outsmarted these bums.
I have look extensively and cannot find any program which will download HULU.
Save your money, folks. It's scamware.

1. Have you tried the newest version?
2. They are usually very busy with other things. They eventually responded to the emails I've sent them.
3. They should lower the price.

I said I always updated to the newer version.
Busy with other things isn't an excuse when it's been over a month for my first couple of emails.
Why should they lower the price? They were the only ones whose programs worked for Hulu. If only one guy in the world owns all the popcorn, and he charges $50 a box for popcorn, you either pay the price or do without popcorn. My complaint ain't the price, it's the total ignoring of my emails after I've paid my money.

@scammed
your posting is not very helpful since you dont specify a testpage url (video link!) which other GFLV users could test to reproduce your problems. indeed, your posting is quite irritating and offending and disrespectful. if you need help, this is the Hulu-GFLV help thread. but you need to act nicely. another such annoying posting of yours and you'll be banned. by me. (so take this as a warning.)
and before we continue, how do we know that you tell the truth (about the 5 emails, about the purchase, about the Hulu problems,..)? you can begin to earn some credibility by posting either the GFLV order reference number OR by sending me the email address with which you registered your GFLV purchase. i will then verify/identify if you indeed made the purchase.
So don't talk shit no more. You're disrupting the peace on our forum.
I plainly stated the problem was with the Hulu site - any download from there bombs out.
Telling the truth? Why in the heck would I be here if GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) had answered my e-mails?
Ref number? Receipt ID? Receipt ID: 4204-2229-6941-5518
How was I to know that I was to supply such?
Disrupting the forum?
Gee, so sorry.
It's obvious that GetFLV runs this forum to a good degree.
It was okay for them to not to answer e-mails for support, but don't let the cat out of the bag for future potential customers, eh?
I won't be bothering you or GetFLV any longer.

GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) doesn't run this forum to any degree. Placebo is one of our moderators, and it was only his personal opinion.
Hope you will get your problems with GetFLV solved with the help of this forum.

scammed, you're sounding offended yourself now. my gosh
okay, take my apologies then and for christ's sake calm down, you're not a kitty cat r u? ;)
you sounded inappropriately rude in the first place imho, so i defended getflv accordingly. btw, today i've done some test downloads on Hulu (USA). even with FREE VPN (Hotspot Shield (http://all-streaming-media.com/links/hotspotshield.htm)), there was no problem whatsoever: GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) caught the stream url's and downloaded them :)
I would bet that getflv coding team is intensely immersed in getting their coding done and improving their product; if they cant respond to emails at the same time, then now we know it and can adjust (=lower) our expectations.
This forum has 3 GFLV threads: 1 for updates, 1 for general troubleshooting, 1 for suggestions, and 1 for Hulu.
Anyone with problems with GFLV (and a particular video testpage) is asked (=asked by me, and asked by getflv support team!!) to detail the problem here(!) on the forum in one of the three threads. getflv is subscribed to the threads and is notified and they do react to bug fixing issues: they work on the list of problems in the background for subsequent updated releases without answering a PM or forum message.
Hey, just get used to getflv's style of handling things

TubeDigger (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/TubeDigger-streaming-audio-video-downloader-recorder-Adobe-Flash-Player-streaming-HTTP-RTMP-RTMPE.htm) can download perfectly from Hulu, costs 60% less than GetFLV (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/GetFLV-Download-and-convert-flash-video-streaming.htm) and offers pay once lifetime upgrades.
Just as a counterpoint.
