Can someone explain to me how to configure the speed settings for Fast Streaming in GAS please?
I recently upgraded from 768kbit DSL to unlimited ADSL2+ which gives me between 8 and 10mbit depending on the line's mood and disturbance level from strong AM radio stations, however seems that GAS Speed autodetection chokes on the speed and it now downloads at a terrific 5k/s always.
I really liked the program despite its crappy translation, it does all i need and its free, but 5k/s on a 10mbit line feels like having a ferrari and needing to push it along the road....
Please tell me how to fix this. Thanks

In GetASFStream (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/record-streaming-video-windows-media.htm#GetASFStream)
1. Click Common -> Detail Setting
2. Select "Local item 1" tab
3. Check "An automatic speed setup is confirmed"
4. Enter the appropriate value into the "Your environment [MBPS]" editbox.
5. Click "Apply"

May be "Fast streaming is used" checkbox on the same tab should also be marked. Who knows?
p.s. Disgusting interface and translation ... but GAF really does what it should.

Its all set like you describe, if i change the value [MBPS] (is that MegaBit or Megabyte?) the program changes it back. Could it be its actually Kilobytes/sec, coz the program always changes it back to 5.000 and thats what i get: 5k/s.
What is that free registration form for btw? i entered my stuff but never got a reply. Could my 5k problem be caused by not following the obscure registration process?

Usually MB stands for Megabyte and Mb for Megabit. But here I have no idea what developer meant.

Unfortunately I dunno anything about this.
p.s. At least you may understand now why I suggest software like WM Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/WMRecorder-One-click-online-audio-video-stream-recorder.htm).

Well yeah, but i record 2 Shows per week for archiving purpose, i rather settle for 5k/s than paying for software i dont need that often, if a freeware program can do the same, even with shitty speed and über-crappy interface :)

Would have used Edit, but the Save button would not work.

Last question, it just came to my mind, could it be the server that limits it to 5k/s, i guess it could, right?

Out of curiosity i tried WM Recorder, mainly to see if its the Server. I really fail to see why you recommend that POS (Piece of Software:))...It starts DLding with about 10k/s, goes up to 9% (thats nowhere near the 10min Limit), craps out, starts over, craps out, starts over...etc...etc, after 20min or so it had reached terrific 13% and i killed and uninstalled it.

Besides that problem, the interface is only slightly better than GAS. At least GAS has a Taskbar entry so i don't need to minimize 1000 other programs when I "lose" it. On top of that WM Recorder refused to accept any other target folder of my own choosing. When i restarted the program it had always reset itself to its default folder...

I can hardly see myself or any sane person pay 49 bux for this. Thats a pretty high price tag for a small util, for such a price i expect a program that works perfect in any aspect of its job.

BTW after i uninstalled it i grabbed the same stream with GAS, while it still only gives me 5k/s, at least it records the whole stream in one run, without hickup.

The best thing i saved for the end, now i get no sound in WMP plugin websites, the plugin acts as if it was playing, but there is NO SOUND.

I can't prove that WM Recorder did this, but it worked 1h ago. I hope a reboot will fix it.
I'll never complain about GAS again and won't look elsewhere ever again....

OK no false accusations...the no sound problem wasn't WM Recorders fault, AC3Filter had somehow activated itself for WMA audio. God, I hate it when programs/codecs take over associations that don't belong to them, without asking....
Gotta love MPC for its ability to list the Direct Show Chain, else I had prolly never found this Problem.

PS: Are you aware that this forums edit functions dont work with Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.x? Thats why i keep adding replys.

What stream were you trying to record with WM Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/WMRecorder-One-click-online-audio-video-stream-recorder.htm)? I want to make sure WM Recorder works with it perfectly.

It is the best stream recorder I have ever used. And it is the most popular stream recorder in the world. It is confirmed by many visitors of the forum.

It is interface is absolutely the best. The only thing you need to do to capture streaming media is to press the Record button (in AUTO recording mode you don't even have to do this).

It can change the target folder. I never use the default one. And it remembers it without any problem. I'll make sure this works in the latest version.

Yes, I don't like the minimizing feature either. But there is no such problem in non-demo version. And one can always use ALT+TAB to navigate to the program.

p.s. If WM Recorder had been that bad you would have noticed a huge amount complains in the forum. But most users praise it as I do.

You wont be able to test the stream, its a newscast from my cabletv provider and only accessible to its customers. If you don't believe me i can create a screen capture video at the weekend.
I have tried 5 or 6 times to change the download folder to another drive, coz i keep programs and data on seperate drives. I had to reboot the machine for another reason, and when i started WMR again, it was back at its defalut folder, i set it to new folder, closed it, reopened it, it was back to its default folder. After 5 or 6 attempts i gave up.

About the interface one can argue, i guess its a matter of taste, i just don't like skinned interfaces much, windows provides very good Gui elemets for almost any use one can imagine, i really hate how every programmer today seems to think without resource eating skinning support his program will be less accepted... I still use the classic old Win95 look on my WinXP converted Win2k3R2 (Proud Member of the Vista-NO-THANKS! League). Any programs that don't adhere more or less to the Win32 GUI standard hardly make it onto my personal favorites list, unless the skin support is fully deactivateable (<-does this word exist? if not i just conjured it into the oxfords concise dictonary:)).

It's not that I didn't believe you. There could be some problematic streams. But after contacting the developer of WM Recorder I was always able to record most of them (This is not usually a case when dealing with free software. One of the reasons to buy software is to have a decent support.) Sometimes one just have to change the settings and sometimes a software bug needs to be fixed (As a programmer you know that well).
