Hello!

I have a lot of old flv videos, which I converted years ago, not knowing that flv is a bit of a crap format to store videos... :rolleyes:

Anyways. They used to play fine in VLC. Now the audio stutters and the video rushes, so at the end, whilst the audio is still playing, the screen is black. They also don't play properly when I try chucking them into Chrome or Firefox.

However, the video plays fine in the Get FLV player.

This is the video info:

I tried converting them with freemake, but the MP4 plays just as weird. Because it's a lot of files, I don't wanna fix them all manually. Is there anything I can do that will make them play correctly, or any programme that can fix them in bulk?

Hi,

seems that something works wrong in your case or maybe your file/s are a little broken and VLC dosent read FLV Header correctly so that you get this playing problems.So I cant imagine that all of your flv files are broken.So you can try to use ffmpeg tool to let create new header in your video without to convert the video.You just need to use copy commands like this....
ffmpeg -i videoX -vcodec copy -acodec copy videoY
...just enter the video name (123.flv) for videoX and for videoY write the output name (123_fix.flv).You can enter this command in CMD window but dont forget using also paths or just copy the CMD.exe also into your ffmpeg folder + the video xy you wanna fix etc.Mostly I do this if you have done some records and files are not seekable.Just try this.

Normaly VLC does play flv files ok.Some older versions of VLC could handle flv files better (faster playing and also mostly seekable for broken files) but older versions could not play speex audio codec.Anyway,so if you only get the problem with VLC to play your files then try maybe to uninstall your VLC + settings and reinstall it fresh or check your video file in VirtualDub (use flv / ffmpeg / Quicktime plugins so these you need to download extra).Or if nothing helps then upload any problem video file of your (1 minute or so) where you got the problem to check this out.

I've tried everything you suggested. ffmpeg didn't fix it. I tried VirtualDub, but no matter what I tried, it cold me it couldn't read the audio, even though I'd installed the codec. I think the file is actually broken.

I converted them years ago and I didn't have much of a clue back then, so something must've gotten messed up.

I just tried Freemake again. The audio plays fine, but the picture is too fast. Converting doesn't work.

I've attached two files here (https://ufile.io/d6828) and here (https://ufile.io/7df36) with the two mistakes, maybe you can figure it out. I'm totally lost now.

ffmpeg -i input.flv -filter:v "setpts=1.5*PTS" output.flv

improved it slightly but still a few frames out try playing with the pts value till you get it correct.

2nd file can be fixed using option "Fix FLV" from TubeDigger's converting dialog.

Hi,

ok I checked also your first video.So the problem is that audio stream dosent match with video stream as you told us and the used frame rate of 25 fps is too high.In your case of the small video you have to change the fps rate to round about 17.6000 frames to get audio match with video.Problem is you have to do this manually for the whole video so just load into VirtualDub (you can load it with directshow input driver) and then play it a little and change the fps rate strg+r and enter a rate manually and test some video parts again (at start & end) and try to get them match.So this can take a while but its also not sure for 100 % that it will match on entire video if the whole is broken on some parts.Just test a little with VD but then you also need to convert the video again in new format.Maybe you have installed Divx / Xvid or wmv you can choose and set your desired bitrate etc or use FFShow (ffdshow_rev3611_20101006_clsid) so with this version you can also encode in mp4.
