I have purchased wmv restricted files that required license, which I entered and they started running fine. However, when I tried to UnDRM them using the FairUse4WM program, I did not have much luck. The steps I followed are:

1. I Installed FairUse4WM 1.3 without any problems.
2. I opened FairUse4WM and clicked the “Recover Key” button (It says 0 Keys loaded”
3. I got the DrmClien.DLL has version 9.0. etc message, and when I pressed okay it went back to the first dialog box which says 0 keys loaded, and the only the Cancel button was still enabled (Exactlythe same window as in step 2).

As you can tell I am using WM 9, which should be okay. Moreover, my computer is running under Windows XP.

Can anyone help, or give me some guidance in this regard?

Have you individualized your Windows Media Player (http://all-streaming-media.com/faq/removing-DRM/faq-Windows-Media-Player-Individualization-Process.htm)?

Did you verify the program (http://all-streaming-media.com/remove-DRM-protection/FairUse4WM-freeware-DRM-removal-Windows-software-Strip-copy-protection-from-WMV-ASF-WMA-Windows-Media-Player.htm)'s functioning by stripping DRM protection from Demo files from ezdrm.com?

Dear Stream Reader,
Thanks much for the prompt response. I tried following the steps as in your reply, but I got the following messages:
1. When pressing the Recover Key button, I got the following ,message: "Attempting to recover DRMv1 keys.....DrmClien.DLL has version 9.0.0.3250. Upon pressing Ok, I get
2. Preparing to launch Media Player ... Indivbox.key has version 10.0.0.3646.... When I press the OK button, I get
3. "Windows Error 80030002 while finding KID in V9 store".

It asks me to retry/cancel, but if I retry I go back to step 1 again.

What should I do to get past this problem?

What version of Fairuse4WM do you use? Is it v1.3?

Please read the following thread

Before posting my first query I performed the following steps:

- Set your Windows Media player (WMP) to prompt on license acquisition
- Open the file, and let WMP acquire the license
- Do NOT click "Play", leave the WMP license window open
- While the window is open, you can use FairUse4WM on the file

but I got the messages I detailed earlier.

Reading the link Stream Records kindly gave, I stumbled on the following paragraph:
"Note that some WM installations will have multiple ECC key-pairs, so you will likely have to "Extract Keys" using multiple licensed files. If you find a file that doesn't convert, try extracting keys wth it. Once your whole set of keys is extracted, you will no longer need to run WM per file"

Indeed, I have several files (about 100) that are proteected under the same license key.

So my question is WHAT ARE THE STEPS AND HOW TO EXTRACT THE KEYS??? When I only have one key!!!

The only advice I have is to try to run Fairuse4WM on a single file.

I have been trying to run FU4WM 1.3 on a single file, but I am getting the same results!!!

I'm just learning to use Fairuse4WM... I quoted a couple of advices from doom9.org. Here are the originals:

A future version of FairUse4WM will verify the content key better. It's likely that you are running into a case where a provider reuses the same KID multiple times -- but with a different content key each time! Try running this while prompting for a license, that may help get the "correct" content key.

Some media files (wma/wmv) have a same KID and use a same SID. For example :

<KID>September Video</KID>
<SID>xxxxxxxxxxyyyyyyy</SID>

Above key pair valid for all media you download for september video.(just an example)

But maybe provider change/update the SID for another files that use the same KID, but with different SID as below

<KID>September Video</KID>
<SID>yyyyyyyyzzzzzzzzz</SID>

To solve the problem, try to recover key again and convert the file ALONE not multiple or batch.

One more thing you can do is to rename your "My Documents\blackbox-keys.txt" and get the keys again.

I really do not know how to get to the KID - SID keys. As a matter of fact I am a newbie to this business.

The good thing about FU4M unlike drm2wmv like programs is that you usually don't have to worry about KID and SID. However there is no good manual I know that I can suggest.

Here is another suggestion from doom9

Easiest thing to do would be to update to Windows Media Player 10 (*NOT 11*). Do *not* reindividualize any further, if you do then you will receive an IBX version that is not compatible with FU4WM. You can download Windows Media Player 10 from Microsoft's web site (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/AllDownloads.aspx):

I have a new problem here that I cannot seem to find the solution to. I am running a Virtual PC version of Windows XP and once I make my way to the link on the Microsoft website to individualize my computer, it requires the installation of an additional component which brings my IBX up to the 11.0.6000.6324. I am not sure if this is a recent change on the Microsoft website that is yet do be documented on this forum but I am having trouble getting a valid IBX key.
