On 17 Oct 08 I re-installed Windows XP Home. Until then DRMDBG was working perfectly at making a non-DRM copy of legally downloaded video's. After the re-install and taking all the updates from Microsoft, DRMDBG no longer works.

On looking through the forum, I can see I am getting the same faults that have been reported, such as :

Read memory input error and Read memory output error.
A KID but no SID on running Freeme2

Rolling back to WMP 10 does not work.

Fairuse does not work and has not for many months.

The question is, has Microsoft done a recent upgrade to prevent current DRM removal programmes working?

It it has, it will stop me beating my brains out trying to get DRMDBG to work! Also - any bright ideas on getting DRMDBG to go again????

The answer is still the same:

Downgrade your Windows Media Player or have another copy of Windows XP installed without the latest updates. Please note that many content providers will force you to upgrade your OS to watch/listen to their content.

or

Use lossy DRM removal software (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/)

Ahhhh - you've got it in one! If you don't take the upgrade, the movie won't play.

So that brings us back to - how to get DRMDBG or Fairuse to work with the upgrade. Sadly, it is w...a.......y beyond me and I had hoped that The Ususal Suspects might have a cunning plan?

It is always possible to run the video and do a screen capture, but the quality is quite degraded and of course takes a lot longer as it has to run in real time.

Any suggestions (except personal abuse) would be most welcome by a lot of us it seems. :) :)
