FairUse4WM is a GUI version of drmdbg.
FairUse4WM 1.3 fix-2 supports Windows Media Player 9,10, and WMP 11 Final with version 11.0.6000.6324 and lower.
Precaution
We do not host or provide downloads of FairUse4WM. When downloading software from unknown sources make sure to check your downloads with a reliable antivirus software like Kaspersky Anti-Virus or Kaspersky Internet Security (http://all-streaming-media.com/non-streaming/Kaspersky-Internet-Security-Kaspersky-Anti-Virus.htm).
Basic requirements:
1. Only works on individualized DRM file
2. Requires Windows Media Player 9, 10 or 11 (doesn't work with WMP 11 with versions higher than 11.0.6000.6324). Works on Windows XP, Vista x32/x64
3. Works with both individualized content and some DRMv1 files
4. Does not work with Win98 or similar.
The program's functioning can be verified by stripping DRM protection from Demo files from ezdrm.com, as well as those from other Microsoft Solution partners.
Limitations
This program is ONLY designed and intended to enable fair-use rights to PURCHASED media.
- While the developer haven't been able to support license expiration/rental detection, please don't use this to abuse rental license
- This code does NOT allow import of KID/SID pairs to preclude its use for piracy
Note that some WM installations will have multiple ECC key-pairs, so you will likely have to "Extract Keys" using multiple licensed files. If you find a file that doesn't convert, try extracting keys wth it. Once your whole set of keys is extracted, you will no longer need to run WM per file.

Make sure you have individualization your system. Visit the following URL to automatically individualize your system

We've tested FairUse4WM and can confirm that it quickly and easily strip the DRM protection from online music services (http://all-streaming-media.com/downloadable-audio-and-video/) like Napster (http://all-streaming-media.com/downloadable-audio-and-video/Napster-free-music-service.htm) and Yahoo! Music Unlimited (http://all-streaming-media.com/downloadable-audio-and-video/Yahoo-Music-Unlimited-Cheap-music-subscription-service.htm). fu4wm can strip DRM protection from PlaysForSure media services. And this lossless DRM removing allows you to make your Windows Media files playable after you're no longer paying fees on your music subscription service (http://all-streaming-media.com/downloadable-audio-and-video/).
But I repeat again: Please do not abuse rental licenses. Use DRM removal software on LEGALLY purchased files only!
Please learn more about FairUse4WM 1.3.fix-2, downgrading Windows Media Player 11 Final to 11.0.6000.6324 (that is supported by FairUse4WM 1.3fix) (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/FairUse4WM-freeware-DRM-removal-Windows-software-Strip-copy-protection-from-WMV-ASF-WMA-Windows-Media-Player.htm)
p.s. Please use FairUse4WM to create fair use backups only.

I recently purchased and downloaded a pack form direct song and want to convert them into an mp3 format, from what I could observe they're one time only license and I checked here after I had already accepted it. When I try to convert any of the songs to DRM free with FairUse4WM it says that they require a different private key. I wasn't sure what that meant so I checked around and found something about ECC key pairs and extracting but I'm not sure about that either, could anyone help?

If you get this error on a brand new license, then redownload test content from fairuse4wm.com or ezdrm.com. Extract the keys.
If the key extraction fails, THEN please post the IBX version from the dialog box.

Someone called "monkey boy" posted a fix for FairUse4wm so now it supports Windows Media Player (WMP) 11 final. You may use it at your own risk.
I have made a determination to the effect that existing logic embedded inside fairuse4wm suffices for the individualized
components contained within microsoft's latest release of wmp11.
While I disavow all authorship claims to the original code; please allow my presentation of a executable patch to

Let the FairUse4WM use the license instead of Windows Media Player - by acquiring but not playing the file.
1. Set your media player to ALWAYS PROMPT before acquiring a license. You should have this as your common setting anyway, because it will save you from folks using the DRM URL to deliver I.E. exploits.
In WMP 10:
1. Click "Tools"->"Options..." and select the "Privacy" tab.
2. In the "Enhanced playback and device experience" group uncheck "Acquire licenses automatically for protected content".
2. Open the file in the Windows Media Player and acquire the license, but DON'T click the Play button!
3. While the dialog is open you should be able to use FairUse4WM on that file. You can also exit your Windows Media Player (Click the Close button) and collect licenses for multiple files.

I wish it were that simple. I already tried that. Dowloaded the file, didn't play it, open in Windows Media PLayer, dialog box comes up, I've tried using Fairuse4wm before agreeing to get the license and after. After agreeing, a Yahoo message comes up saying you can't play the file (you can only play it in the Yahoo music player).
I've yet to see anyone post that they successfully removed DRM from a Yahoo subscription file, NOT a purchased file. I don't think it is possible. I even purchase a track from Yahoo and used it to recover the key but that didn't help.

Hi Guys
From what I've seen in
FairUse4WM (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/FairUse4WM-freeware-DRM-removal-Windows-software-Strip-copy-protection-from-WMV-ASF-WMA-Windows-Media-Player.htm) I'm very impressed. I'd like to know how to get it more fault tolerant i.e. skip over broken frames and continue. If one plays licensed DRM movies in Media player it return an error when it encounters a corrupted frame and stops. But you can move the slider past this and press play again to continue without any problem.
Is there a way to keep FairUse4WM going over these bad frames? You can re-record this by using proggies like Fraps but its so much hassle.

You can re-record this by using proggies like Fraps but its so much hassle.
Besides lossless DRM removal software there are programs SoundTaxi, freeTunes, TuneBite (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/). And they are especially useful for removing DRM from audio files if you want to save ID3 tags (artist, title, album).
I prefer to use FairUse4WM (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/FairUse4WM-freeware-DRM-removal-Windows-software-Strip-copy-protection-from-WMV-ASF-WMA-Windows-Media-Player.htm) but sometimes it is useless and sometime it takes too much time to set the software up.

I've just spotted I have the problem which FairUse4WM should resolve but I'm also supporting a version of mediaplayer beyond the version it currently caters for. Is it possible that whoever created FairUse4WM might eventually provide a later version addressing V.11 Final rather than my trying the Monkey Boy fix? If I could revert back to an earlier version of media player would this resolve the problem ? Thanks in advance

I think i may have found a problem. I retrieved the keys and converted the file fine, but now when i go back into WMP and try to play the file that originally had DRM on it, it would not play. I tried getting a license for another file that i have, and it would not play that one. The error i get is this: "An operation was attempted on a pin that doesn't exist in the DirectShow filter graph."

Here is the solution from Danj:
It's the simple fact that because of all the many different configurations of Windows PCs out there, the
one-size-fits-all approach does not always work.
Since you have all the Windows Media Player updates installed, you would need to check if your Music/Video service will allow you to redownload songs, because the "roll-back" procedure that you would need to perform will destroy any existing DRM licenses you have (not just music but video too).
The reason why this roll-back procedure is needed is that the current version of FairUse4WM (1.3fix) does not support the latest version of Microsoft's "Individualized Black Box DLL" (referred to in this thread as "IBX" for short). This file is the critical system file which handles the encryption and decryption processes involved in Microsoft's DRM. A few forum posters at doom9 have discovered a method whereby they can obtain an older IBX by replacing certain Windows Media Player files with older versions. Unfortunately this seems to be a hit-and-miss process as not everyone has been able to get it to work. Also, because this file is individualized, you cannot simply download a copy of it from someone else, you have to obtain it via the proper individualization process which takes place on Microsoft's web site, otherwise it simply won't work at all.
I personally do not have any experience with the roll-back process since (so far at least) I haven't yet been forced to upgrade to Windows Media Player 11, and consequently I still have IBX version 11.0.5497.6285. If you wish to determine your own IBX version, you can follow these steps:
1. Go to Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View tab.
2. Check "Show hidden files and folders".
3. Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" and "Hide protected operating system files".
4. Load Windows Explorer.
5. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM.
6. Right click Indivbox.key (may also be called Indiv001.key or Indiv002.key or something - pick the one with the highest number if so) and choose Properties.
7. Click the Version tab.
Your IBX version number will be displayed at the top. If it is 11.0.6000.6324 or higher then you will need to perform the roll-back process and hope it works for you. If not, then either FairUse4WM 1.3fix or FairUse4WM 1.3 should work for decrypting your files.
FairUse4WM itself is pretty self-explanatory... it is presented in a wizard style format and supports both dragging and dropping of files and also passing filenames on the command line. The first time you use it you will need to recover your DRM keys, but after that, unless for some reason your IBX gets upgraded or you have to reindividualize, it will remember them and go straight to the file chooser dialog.
Downloads of software and rollback instructions can be found on the following page:
FairUse4WM 1.3 - Freeware DRM removal Windows software. Strip copy-protection from .WMV, .ASF, .WMA (Windows Media Player 9, 10, 11) (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/FairUse4WM-freeware-DRM-removal-Windows-software-Strip-copy-protection-from-WMV-ASF-WMA-Windows-Media-Player.htm)

Whether you wanna to downgrade the WMP or transfer DRM-protected content to a new PC, you should contact your service provider and ask whether it is possible to re-acquire licenses for the purchased files.

The version 11.0.6000.6324 of the WMP is not supported by the Fairuse4Wm 1.3.fix. You may downgrade it (please re-read the first post), however the trick doesn't work for all.
You may also install the older version of the WMP onto clean system.
In both cases you will lose your current licenses. Make sure you can re-acquire them first.
You may also use lossy DRM removal software (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/) like Soundtaxi (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/SoundTaxi-Convert-DRM-protected-music-from-Windows-Media-Player-iTunes-Napster-Yahoo-Music-Rhapsody.htm).

If you get "requires a different private key", go back to the first page and re-extract keys. With Fairuse4wm v1.3, watch for the final message, it should say "Primary and # secondary keys (0 bogus)".
If it didn't recover the primary, you can reindividualize - this will put the primary as a secondary key (which are easier to recover).
If it reports bogus keys, there's a bug in FairUse4WM v1.3.
If it doesn't recover any keys, then the parsing code of viodentia wasn't flexible enough to handle this particular variety.

To roll back Windows Media Player to a previous version (http://all-streaming-media.com/faq/media-players/faq-Windows-Media-Player-roll-back-to-previous-version.htm)
1. Download WMP11 beta 2 version
2. Then follow Microsoft's instructions to remove WMP11 (final)
3. Clear out DRM folder (Note that all licenses will be deleted!!!) .
4. Open the WMP11beta2.exe file and install WMP 11 beta2 making sure that your computer didn't update any part of the program.

thank you for providing all the detail information on installation and troubleshooting. unfortunately i cannot quite solve the problems i'm encountering with the existing information..
first, i think the trouble came with me updating my system recently. something might have been upgraded and i'm not sure. anyway i used to just use the automate undrm v2 and it worked fine, but after the update, it didn't work anymore.
i have also upgraded my windows media player to v11, but because i'm encountering problems un-drm-ing, i've already rolled back to v9. but things still doesnt work.
i downloaded fairuse 1.3 but i had the problem of the indiv key thing, it says 11 is not supported and need 10; i tried to do as u said to delete the DRM folder in the c drive, but from the path you provided i didn't see any folder named DRM (i can see the hidden folders).
so i tried to dload fairuse 1.3 fix but all of the download links are expired...

Searching for the DRM folder
If in Windows XP and your DRM folder is not in the C:\Documents and Settings\
Make sure "show hidden folders" is enabled:
In Windows Explorer go to Tools->Folder Options.
Select The "View" Tab.
Look for the heading Hidden Files and Folders and make sure "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.
Click the "Apply" button.
Also look whether "Hide extension for known file types" and "Hide protectecd operating system files" are unchecked. If they are not uncheck them and hit the "Apply" button.
Click Ok.Leave the dialogue and look in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users" again.

Instead of rolling back Windows Media Player to a previous version (http://all-streaming-media.com/faq/media-players/faq-Windows-Media-Player-Uninstall-and-roll-back-to-previous-version.htm) you can try a virtual machine (either VMWare or Microsoft Virtual PC). Install Windows XP (assuming you have your Windows XP install/upgrade disc) on it and run the beta version of WMP 11 if your purchase requires it. If not you may try to use WMP 10 and remove DRM from within the Virtual PC and simply transfer the DRM-free files to your Windows XP/Vista music folder.
Until there is an update to FairUse4WM (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/FairUse4WM-freeware-DRM-removal-Windows-software-Strip-copy-protection-from-WMV-ASF-WMA-Windows-Media-Player.htm) (if there will be any) to combat the new IBX this is the way I recommend if you use Windows Vista only or updated WMP to the version higher than 11.0.5705.5043.
And NEVER UPGRADE your WMP. If your DRM-licensed media files require an upgrade to WMP 11 use WMP 11 beta 2 or WMP11 beta 3!
And don't forget to re-inividualize WMP through the Microsoft's web-site (http://undrm.info/faq/removing-DRM/faq-Windows-Media-Player-Individualization-Process.htm) after installing WMP or rolling it back.
Many thanx to all doom9 members for the contributions

since that update to WMP11 this no longer works...and for me personally i can't seem to remove it.
I've tried everything to remove WMP 11 but no luck...so i'm out of luck using fairuse4wm.
so any updates? any idea if the creator will create a new version?

How does Microsoft Virtual PC work? if you don't mind sharing such info or guiding me to the right place to find such info...
Virtual PC is like having a virtual computer. It runs on a virtual harddrive on your main harddrive. You can set up a shared folder to share files beween your main OS and the virtual one.
With Virtual PC you can run one or even multiple other operating systems from your Windows XP or Windows Vista. Here we're interested in running Windows XP that fullfills the requirements of Fairuse4wm as a virtual OS.
In this virtual OS you log in onto your media content provider's web-site and download DRM protected files. Then use Fairuse4wm to remove DRM protection and put the unDRMed files into shared folder. You will immediately get access to the DRM-free files from your main OS.
It's much easier compared to having one more copy of Windows XP on your PC, 'coz you don't have to reboot and boot under different OS each time you wanna use another OS. You just run Virtual PC or WM Ware, hit the play button on the virtual OS to run it. Then use it as long as you need, then stop it and you're again in the main OS. It's like a snap!
Just don't update your virtual Windows XP. Or at least make sure to apply updates selectively.

Hi,
FairUse4WM (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/FairUse4WM-freeware-DRM-removal-Windows-software-Strip-copy-protection-from-WMV-ASF-WMA-Windows-Media-Player.htm) does not work on my laptop (Windows XP) provided by my company. When I doubleclick on the FairUse4WM.exe file, nothing happens but when I go check the processes in the Windows Task Manager, I see the a process "FairUse4WM.exe" that uses exactly 50% of the CPU. I never get a chance to see the window appear but the process stays until I end it by myself.
The laptop I have gets frequent updates from the IT department. FairUse4WM used to work 2 months ago on the same laptop.
- Has anyone experienced the same problem?
- Could the problem be caused by a security update introduced by Microsoft? a virus on my laptop? files missing needed to run FairUse4WM?
thanks

Fairuse4wm doesn't work with IBX 11.0.5497.6285 and higher. However your error is very weird. You may try to remove Fairuse4wm and install one more time.

From what I've seen in FairUse4WM I'm very impressed. I'd like to know how to get it more fault tolerant i.e. skip over broken frames and continue. If one planes licensed DRM movies in Media player it return an error when it encounters a corrupted frame and stops. But you can movie the slider past this and press play again to continue no problem.
Is there a way to keep FairUse4WM going over these bad frames? You can re-record this by using proggies like Fraps but its so much hassle.
I think it is a good idea to ask about it at doom9 forum. The developers who continue the work of Viodentia can try to implement that.

Hello, I am new and have a question regarding FairUse4WM. I have been using it for 6 months with no problem with Ruckus music files. All of a sudden tonight, it gave me the following message:
"requires a different private key."
I have read about this problem earlier in the thread but can't figure out what you mean by:
{If you get "requires a different private key", go back to the first page and re-extract keys. With v1.3, watch for the final message, it should say "Primary and # secondary keys (0 bogus)". }
Do you have any suggestions on how to start getting my files working again? also , why would it just stop working and giving me this message after working for months before that?
I really appreciate your help with this matter!

You cannot repair video files with DRM.
You can only repair/fix if it has no DRM
Catch 22 there

If it converts file to an unplayable one, then you can try to repair/fix it.
As for DRMed files, obviously there are no converting or repairing software.

fu4wm works on Windows XP just not with the latest IBX. there seems to be nothing esoteric. you just
1. downgrade your WMP so that it has supported IBX
or
2. use fresh copy of Windows XP (it can be a standalone installation or on a virtual machine)
its nothing when i checked OK button
im finding out how to determinte IBX , but i still did not see Indivbox.key :( i seen drmv1.key , what will i do after click ON properties
If you can't see the file then you either
1. Haven't unchecked the "Hide protected operating system files" option
or
2. Haven't indivisualized your system (have you ever played DRM protected files?)

you need to find the IBX in the Windows which is used to get DRM licenses from your content providers. It could be a standalone version of Windows or the one installed into your virtual machine.

Hello,
I'd been using Fairuse for about a year successfully until I inadvertently installed WMP 11 which included IBX 6000.7000. So I attempted to roll-back the WMP as instructed but was unable to locate my DRM directory for deletion until I actually typed the path:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM
even though I have hidden files visible etc. When I try to delete the folder (which appears to be empty even in cmd line) I get an error stating:
Cannot delete drmstore.hds it is being used by another program.
I have made sure that WMP, Yahoo Music, iTunes (not that itunes should matter) etc. are not being used by interogating the running processes. Do you know what process is using this file?
Are there any other specific filenames I need to delete?
How about the DRM files in the Windows/inf folder?
Thanks Much,
Zoop

At least you can delete the DRM folder in the SAFE mode (all licenses will be lost!).
You can also try to usee freeware utilities by sysinternals:
Process Explorer is much better at showing processes and killing ones.
And File Monitor allows you to find an application that uses your file. Just filter for "drmstore.hds" and it might help...

When I go and individualize my media player for some reason it keeps showing up as version 11.0.6000.7000 for my IndivBox.key. So fu4wm13fix does not work.

What could I be doing wrong?
I have a movie I bought that I am tring to use this on.
TIA

Well looks like my problem was that I had a security update for Media Player that was stopping it from working. Once I removed it and delete the DRM folder I was able to get it to at least come up now. But I guess I did something wrong because now it comes up as you don't have a valid licenses(something like that). Oh well it's just one movie so I guess I can't get to watch it anymore.
Thanks for your help.

It was mentioned that by deleting the DRM folder you lose all your licenses. Unless you can re-acquire them, there is nothing you can do.
It is up to you whether to downgrade and try to re-acquire licenses or to use a new clean system.

I just wasted a day on this trying to setup a buddied Vista machine. The genius thing about this is that all the info out there like:
unDRM.info: FAQ: How to Remove DRM from Windows Media Player files with FairUse4WM 1.3 (http://undrm.info/faq/removing-DRM/faq-Remove-DRM-from-Windows-Media-Player-files-with-FairUse4WM1.3.htm)
Says Fairuse4wm 1.3 fix 2 (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/FairUse4WM-freeware-DRM-removal-Windows-software-Strip-copy-protection-from-WMV-ASF-WMA-Windows-Media-Player.htm#fu4m13fix2) works with 11.0.6000.6324 IBX. So you pull your hair out all day wondering why it isn't working. Essentially MS is SPOOFING the IBX version number by reusing and older version number for a new IBX. Bastards.
What's the next best thing to use in the interim while waying for a patch, SoundTaxi (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/SoundTaxi-Convert-DRM-protected-music-from-Windows-Media-Player-iTunes-Napster-Yahoo-Music-Rhapsody.htm)?
So does this all just boil down to the coders of the undrm software patching their programs faster than MS can release a new IBX version. Considering the size of MS, seems like it will now always be a losing battle?
There's got to be a workaround. Roll back to WMP 9???

Just some more info to add to the mix...
I'm using my older notebook as my newer one is in the shop being repaired. Both run Win XP. I noticed that on this old notebook the Yahoo Jukebox setting for adding tracks to My Music was not set to download the song to the local drive. It is running WMP 10.
So I changed the setting. Downloaded a song. Attempted to play it. Got a Yahoo Warning with the Play button grayed out even though I was logged in. However when I went to play the local downloaded copy of the song a second time, it played. So I'm assuming I got the warning because it needed to download the DRM files from Yahoo.
So I downloaded the latest copy of fairuse4wm 1.3 fix 2. Didn't do anything else. Ran it, recovered the keys, and successfully removed the DRM from the song I downloaded of Yahoo. I of course deleted the song thereafter since I didn't buy it.
But I never got any prompt to upgrade my Yahoo Music Jukebox, WMP, or anything. I went and viewed the IBX version of IndivBox.key in c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM and it is version 11.0.5497.6285 !
So if people say their unDRM software has stopped working recently and their IBX is the 11.0.6000.6324 version, AND it is happening on both Vista AND XP, then this means it is a problem with Windows Media Player 11. It appears you don't get the new uncompatible IBX if you are running an older version of WMP.
Seems to me what happened is that a fairuse4wm version was released (1.3 fix 2) that worked with WMP 11 and everyone got all excited and upgraded to WMP 11 because of it and ended up screwing themselves as Microsoft is focusing on releasing 'fixes' (or in the case of unDRM software 'breaks') to only the latest version of WMP.
I thought the IBX was independent of the Media Player though. As you can see even though I'm running WMP 10, my IBX version starts out at 11. So it seems to indicate that Microsoft is pushing different IBX's for different versions of WMP, OR, they (or Yahoo or Napster, etc.) just aren't requireing an IBX update if you aren't running WMP 11?

Boy I'm sure glad I don't run Vista. Learning what all the complaints are about working with my friends computer. I believe the problem could be fixed simply by installing an older version of WMP on Vista. However, I just found out, that's impossible as it is now a fixed part of the operating system that cannot be rolled back! You can only roll it back in XP!
So now I see why the big need to un Virtual PC on Vista.

So in summary, MS to cause confusion and havoc released a new IBX under an older version number because all info on the net says this older version number works. Hopefully all the websites publishing information on setting up fairuse4wm will update with this new info soon as to save many others from the frustration of trying to make it work when they think they have the correct IBX.
The new IBX appears to only be installed if you are running WMP 11.
In Vista, Microsoft widely made WMP 11 part of the operating system so you cannot uninstall it and downgrade it. I'm sure they did this specifically to strengthen DRM. I imagine it has been a major embarassment to them that there DRM has been defeated fairly easily and those companies paying lots of money are pissed of that programs like fairuse4wm are floating around.
If you run XP, just downgrade to WMP10, delete your DRM directory and re-individualize. (I'm not 100% sure that will work, if not, downgrade to WMP 9).
If you run Vista, currently, once again, the only way to use unDRM software is to install Virtual PC 2007 (ignore messages that it doesn't support your OS if you are running Vista Home). Install Win XP and run SP2 update which puts you at WMP 9 (I though it would at least take you to 10 but I think 10 should be fine too.) Then you can use fairuse4wm and other similar programs running XP in Virtual PC. DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR WMP after that.
Downside is, at least on my notebook, I can't use it to play streaming audio from the subscription networks as the sound is crackly. But then I only use Virtual PC to run fairusew4wm.
Lastly, if someone updates fairuse4wm to work with the new IBX, then the Virtual PC route will no longer be needed for Vista users on WMP 11.
I think (hope) I got it all right.

be productive and use little lossy DRM removal tools (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/) like Soundtaxi (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/SoundTaxi-Convert-DRM-protected-music-from-Windows-Media-Player-iTunes-Napster-Yahoo-Music-Rhapsody.htm) (my fave) and wait till a fixed (updated) version of drmdbg or FairUse4WM (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/FairUse4WM-freeware-DRM-removal-Windows-software-Strip-copy-protection-from-WMV-ASF-WMA-Windows-Media-Player.htm) is released...

Hello,
I am getting the "11.0.6000.6324 isn't supported yet" error when I try to recover my keys, but when I look at my windows media player version it says I have 11.0.5721.5230. It was working for a while, then all of the sudden just started telling me the my file requires a different key. I've tried deleting my DRM folder using "rmdir DRM" in the command prompt, but it won't let me, it says I have files in there. I can't see my DRM folder though, even though I have Hidden Files set to visible. I can browse into the DRM folder by typing in it's path, but once inside, I can't see any files in it. I've also tried creating a new DRM folder, but windows won't let me. Any ideas?
btw, I need WMP 11 so I can watch Netflix (http://all-streaming-media.com/links/netflix.htm) "Watch Instantly Movies" Gotta get our moneys' worth:) .

Folks,
I am not having any luck with the program. Mirakagi does not find keys.
To make sure that I am doing this properly, I have a couple of questions:
1. How do I check the WMP rev level to make sure that it is supported by FairUse4WM?
2. My WMP does not have an option to check settings. How can I do this?
3. Once this is confirmed, what are the exact steps to successfully use these programs.

Hi!
Please help me to understand how to use .
I have a film in wmv-format. This film was bought absolutely legally and successfully played on Windows Media Player. A legal copy of Windows XP is installed on my PC. I want to convert this film to DVD-format to watch it on my home TV.
When I try to crack this file, WMP is loading, the film begins to play, a FairUse4WM window is hanged, and nothing happens more.
When I try to close WMP manually FairUse4WM shows message box:
Unhandled situation -9000 while Creating Windows Media instance.
What should I do?
Versions:

Mikhail, I have never seen any problem like this. You should use the latest version of FairUse4WM (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/FairUse4WM-freeware-DRM-removal-Windows-software-Strip-copy-protection-from-WMV-ASF-WMA-Windows-Media-Player.htm) - fu4wm 1.3 fix-2.
And you can always use freeme2 (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/freeme2-freeware-lossless-DRM-remover-for-Windows-Media-WMV-WMA-files.htm) or lossy
DRM removal software (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/) and screen video capture software (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-from-screen/) instead of fu4wm.

I have updated to WMP 11 that makes it so FairUse4WM does not work anymore. I know that the only way for it to work is with an older version of WMP, but I cannot downgrade because the newest Zune software (3.0) requires the WMP update. I cannot downgrade the Zune software (which would then allow me to downgrade WMP), and am wanting to know if there is anyway around this? If there is no updated version of FairUse that can deal with this, is there another DRM protection remover I can use?

I didn't really understand your question. Please try to elaborate...
FairUse4WM (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/FairUse4WM-freeware-DRM-removal-Windows-software-Strip-copy-protection-from-WMV-ASF-WMA-Windows-Media-Player.htm) and freeme2 (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/freeme2-freeware-lossless-DRM-remover-for-Windows-Media-WMV-WMA-files.htm) work much faster than in Real time. And they both have automation tools to remove DRM protection from multiples files.
Lossy DRM removal software (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/) are not that fast, but at least some of these programs can re-record your DRM-protected files at say 12x, 24x or 48x speed.

if you are forced to upgrade to the latest IBX, WMP v11 beta 2/3 won't work, because current versions of FairUse4WM (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/FairUse4WM-freeware-DRM-removal-Windows-software-Strip-copy-protection-from-WMV-ASF-WMA-Windows-Media-Player.htm) and freeme2 (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/freeme2-freeware-lossless-DRM-remover-for-Windows-Media-WMV-WMA-files.htm) don't work with IBX 11.0.6000.6324

This is an update to the rollback fix I released over a year ago. It contains everything you need to be DRM-free using a Napster subscription under Windows XP. This is fact will work for other subscription services too, however the lingo in this release is Napster specific since it is the best subscription service available. Just do the instructions exactly as written. You only have to go through them once ever, so be patient and read them!

Hey all,
First of all thanks alot, milotis!
Unfortunatelly the newest version doesn't work at my system.
One problem is that the wmvcore.dll always recreates in the c:/windows/system32 folder even if i empty the recycle bin.
But the main problem is that i'm not able to install wmp10 cause it tells me that its incompatible with my windows version. I've got Win XP Professionel N Edition with SP3. Is it maybe the problem of the N Edition?
Thanks for all suggestions!

Hey meddle,
I had to delete wmvcore.dll 3 times before it stopped recreating
itself.
After each time I searched for it and deleted it I restarted windows
then searched again. The 3rd time is when I got the message about
the unrecognized versions and it was smooth sailing from there.

Hello all-
Long time reader, first time poster here, although most of my previous reading was spent over at doom9 before I discovered this site.
So this workaround won't work with zune, since it requires a wmp 11 upgrade? Is there a current method that works with the zune software (in XP or Vista)?
I'm "lucky" enough to be running Vista SP1 with zune 3.1 and can still use FairUse4WM fix2 without any fancy workarounds. (I seem to be "stuck" on the "old" IBX 11.0.6000.6324. In my more naive (and stupid) days studying this subject, I even tried to re individualize to 6000.7000 when it was the newest version, without success, thank God.) However I'm in desperate need of a clean os install, prob back to xp, but I'm a little reluctant about doing it since I seem to be a rare case of Fairuse4WM fix2 still working in Vista. Then again, my vista being so screwed up may be directly related to my "luckiness."
Also, if my "situation" can be of any use to someone more knowledgeable than me (ie. figuring out how to recreate it for others) pm me and I'll be happy to share more details.
But I digress.
Original question: so this won't work with zune? Is there a method that will?
Thanks!

I will say this as nicely as possible. Please read the instructions and do them AS written, not what you think you should do. I wrote them literally. If you do the step where I tell you to make sure to search hidden/system files, as well as the step in Folder Options to show all hidden and system files, then it will not auto create itself.
You have to do the search for hidden/system files as well, THEN delete all the results.
Also, I put a note at the VERY end of the instructions on how to install Windows if it won't let you run the EXE straight up. Please READ that part. You run a subfile called "wmsetsdk.exe" - Did you do that?

Why not just switch to Napster? You know, you can use any service you want with a Zune device, you dont have to use the "Zune" service.

Exactly. The problem is that the new Zune 3.1 software upgrades
windows media player and that's the only way currently to transfer
music to a zune.
So what I did was use vmware player and installed windows xp in
it. Then I installed the new zune software there and transferred all the
liberated music I downloaded from napster to the virtual machine.

Rule #1 - Do not upgrade EVER.
Rule #2 - Don't upgrade EVER.
Rule #3 - Obey rules #1 and #2.
Once you get your DRM in a crackable state, NEVER upgrade your DRM or WindowsMedia Player. If you have a device or piece of software that "forces" you to upgrade, then switch. For example, use Napster with an iPod, everything works great....you will never be told you have to upgrade. Actually you can use Napster with any device that shows up in MyComputer as "Removable Storage", which is 99% of the media player devices on the market.
Don't get locked into a proprietary piece of hardware like a Zune. There are so many great devices out there like the Creative Zen or the iPod shuffle, that are cheap and function like a harddrive, no restrictions what you can put on there.

Still trying to figure out how to do this. Netflix requires 11 to grant rights to a downloaded movie... Trying to figure out how to watch movies on the plane...
Is it possible to delete WMP11, then install WMP10, individualize, make a copy of \all users\DRM\ - then after I upgrade to WMP11, copy the old V10 DRM dir and Cache subdirs back over??
xp pro SP2 here.
I had a similar issue..I have a Sony Walkman S639F to replace a defunct old mp3 player. I tried all ways to link it up with my lappie's (running XP Media Center) library of mp3s without using the Sony CD/software which required me to do a WMruntime11 and a Quicktime update to work. Also to use BBCiplayer files on the Sony..I had eventually to agree to updates. Bugger..predictably my newly restored WMP10 set up using Milotis' fix is now knacked and I am back to an Individualized Blackbox .dll key of 11.0.6000.6324!!
I see what you are saying m8. I dont have the expertise to say but will be very interested if one of the gurus here replies to your query...but it does seem that at every twist and turn there's something that guides you towards updates of some type. In my case, as my earlier post said, there were also(so-called) security holes in WMP10..which required(?) those updates (among others). I wasn't sure if not doing them ..for ibx keyreasons.. was potentially dangerous. I have now decided to use an old laptop with WMP10 and the right ibx no. just for DRM-related work...& then transfer files on a portable drive..no updates allowed on that machine!!
One last thing..you may or may not be aware that BBC iplayer (I'm in UK) offers a download of recent TV progs..to PC or portable device (i.e. 2 separate versions). I had some DRM-free PC-download progs stored on my PC's HDD...but they wouldnt play on the Sony Walkman. I have no DRM-free "portable" downloads currently available to try but I wonder when I do download some and get FU4WM running again if when DRM-stripped they will play on the Sony..somehow I think they may not..but we'll see in a few days.

Just skip the ones that say Windows Media Player, Windows Media Runtime and you shouldn't have any problems continuing to use lossless DRM removal software (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/).
And it is rather subjective whether Windows updates are that critical at all, especially if you use a good firewall and antivirus.

The only way I know of to get around this whole update business is
to run a virtual machine. This is what I've done since I use a Zune
which requires the runtime11 update.
So if you have an XP disc, download virtualbox and install xp as
a virtual machine.
Once the install is complete, you don't have to do the first part of
mil0tis's instructions, just install wmp10 and finish from there.

No that is not possible because your IBX is based on your version of media player. The first time you reopen WMP after doing that manual copy it would reindividualize because it would see an invalid IBX. I make no guarantees about using this in conjunction with Netflix. I myself has ATT U-Verse HDTV at home, and get my fill of movies from the free onDemand where like over 500 movies are available to watch at any time, so we dont even rent movies anymore. I think Netflix/Blockbuster is a waste of money.

It seems to me, however, that the central problem with the whole FairUse DRM stripping fiasco is that the programs that allow you to download your songs in the first place, force you to update your IBX to the highest one before you can even download the files you're going to remove DRM from. For example, I've tried every method of getting fairuse to work (and yes, I do mean EVERY method, except for the virtual PC, but it looks like it would be no different than just downgrading my current WMP to ver. 10 and going thru that whole process. and yeah, I'm this close to actually trying the virtual PC fix, I just don't think it'll work.) and the problem that I keep coming back to is that I can't individualize, or download music, because either Microsoft's individualization site or Zune/Napster forces an update of the IBX. Any thoughts on this?

If you are forced to upgrade your IBX to the latest, the virtual PC or anything else won't help. You can only use lossy DRM removal software (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/) in this case.

Hello, DRM noob here...
Question: If I use my Win7 (64bit) machine to download my Zune purchases, can I then run a virtualbox install of XP (32bit) to remove DRM?
If not, can I just reboot into a separate installation of XP 32bit on a separate partition, and remove DRM from that install?
Just curious if I can even make this work, before I start spending time learning how to free some songs for my iPhone.

If Zune forces you to upgrade to the latest version of IBX, then you won't be able to use FairUse4WM (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/FairUse4WM-freeware-DRM-removal-Windows-software-Strip-copy-protection-from-WMV-ASF-WMA-Windows-Media-Player.htm) or freeme2 (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/freeme2-freeware-lossless-DRM-remover-for-Windows-Media-WMV-WMA-files.htm). BTW it seems like the latter has more succesful users right now.
If you are not forced to upgrade, you can try both freeware virtual machine virtual box (as well as any other virtual machine) or a separate installation of Windows XP. I haven't tried virtual box yet, but you shouldn't have problems with it.

when i install the WMP 10 i get a no auto open of napster, then when i go to the napster button, i get a 'try napster' link that forces to open in IE when my default browser is firefox, and it says invalid country code.
so i go and install above version of napster standalone, it still say 'configuring media player' on install, but will no longer play any of my tunes or download or play new ones. it say 'theres a problem playing this track' im a napster subscriber. i can still play tunes on my other registered computer...
it looks like they have figured out how to refuse licensing to wmp 10?

i got "FairUse4WM (http://undrm.info/remove-DRM-protection/FairUse4WM-freeware-DRM-removal-Windows-software-Strip-copy-protection-from-WMV-ASF-WMA-Windows-Media-Player.htm) v1.3" and "FairUse4WM v1.3fix" from this forum site. i think it means "fix1". the download links for "v1.3-fix2" or "fix3" (Does this exist?) are down. maybe someone can reupload the files?

Yes some of the links are down and i cant get this to work with zune wmv files. Anyone worked with them? As i think half of the people wanting to remove wmv are probably using zune or another service that has probably upgraded to drmv2 protection and so drmdbg is obsolete now because it doesnt work with drmv2 or windows media player 11 final release.
Mostly if anyone is a zune user you have to download the latest release to view some content and then it updates your pc in xp or windows 7 making drmdbg useless.
I would like to download the correct WMP 11 and the fair use4wm that works with it. I think I have tried all the links to download but have been unsuccessful. Can anyone help.
Thanks
