Hi,
It seems I've read all I could on recording rstp quicktime streams, yet I still can't manage to record the following two streams:
rtsp://132.64.128.106:7070/econ17/Kenneth_Arrow.mov
rtsp://132.64.128.106:7070/econ17/Robert_Aumman.mov
I've tried with
HiDownload (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/HiDownload-download-Windows-Media-Real-Audio-Video-QT-Flash-FLV-Shoutcast-MP3-audio-streaming-and-save-to-hd.htm) (no luck, i.e. no sound),
MovRecorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/record-streaming-video-quick-time.htm#MovRecorder) (shite, out-dated and doesn't work with QT Alternative),
MPlayer (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/record-streaming-video-windows-media-and-real-video.htm#MPlayer) (doesn't work at all, cannot even playback the file)
and
VLC player (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/record-streaming-video-windows-media-and-real-video.htm#VLC) (all it records is a 1KB file)...
Can anyone please try and see if he/she can record either of these 2 streams? Are there any other alternatives apart from Camtasia and the likes?
I'd be really grateful for any advice and help from the members of this forum. Thanks!

It seems that you are an experienced user. Hopefully you used the latest version of software.
HiDownload (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/HiDownload-download-Windows-Media-Real-Audio-Video-QT-Flash-FLV-Shoutcast-MP3-audio-streaming-and-save-to-hd.htm) and MovRecorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/record-streaming-video-quick-time.htm#MovRecorder) are not very reliable RTSP QuickTime stream recorders. Besides I haven't received any reply from their support for a while.
HTTP protocol doesn't work here.
So you may try
to play the recordings of HiDownload with QuickTime player 'coz it is more reliable than QT Alternative.
to write to the support of MPlayer (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/record-streaming-video-windows-media-and-real-video.htm#MPlayer) and VLC player (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/record-streaming-video-windows-media-and-real-video.htm#VLC).

Hey guys, thanks for all the feedback! I moved to another house and had LOTS of other things to worry about, that's why I'm replying so late. Am really sorry for massive delay!
With regards to recording the two streams in questions, here's what I was able to find out. Yes, I'm an experienced user and yes, I used the latest versions of all the software.
I tried latest HiDownload (v7.12) with latest QT player (v7.4.0.91) - didn't work.
I tried ALL QT versions from v4.00 on hoping that the streaming files first get downloaded and are stored locally as temporary files (method described in one of the posts I cannot find a link to). Unfortunately, old versions (that generate such tmp files) cannot stream the two files, while QT v7.4.0.91 works flawlessly - damn...
As mentioned, latest QT has no problems streaming the files and produces a really good quality videos (much better than VLC or MPC - so the streams are not horrible at all as implied by the most recent reply).
It seems the only choice left is Camtasia, but I don't know how to record the audio through PCM while recording the video, i.e. without recording it separately? Any advice would be more than welcome, as well as a hint or two which other software I can use to record both video AND audio at the same time?
Thanks for everything! Majst

There are lots of screen capture programs (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-from-screen/) that can record video with audio. Try freeware CamStudio (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-from-screen/CamStudio-freeware-Windows-Free-video-screen-capture-software-supporting-audio-recording.htm) first.

Well, the problem with this kind of software is that you can record audio only through the mic, not through the PCM, meaning the audio quality is shite. Is there anything else besides CamStudio (offers audio recording through mic only)?
Thanks for your feedback!

I've recorded audio from my sound card by direct sound recording software as well as screen capture software. But I don't remember recording through the Mic with these applications.
If it is too difficult for you to set up audio when recording, you may try liteCam (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-from-screen/liteCam-easy-to-use-screen-recorder.htm). It seems to be the easiest screen capture software I have ever tried. Don't buy it... just try. It might help you to understand which settings to use in other applications.
