HDTVtoMPEG2 (http://www-personal.umich.edu/~balazer/HDTVtoMPEG2/) is a free program you can use to edit out commercials and/or convert Transport Stream (.ts) files to Program Stream (.mpg) files. Some media players cannot handle playing Transport Streams directly so you will need to convert to Program Stream for playback purposes.

This program also has editing capabilities (even an automatic commercial editing mode for HD recordings that relies on the presence of black bars during commercials) but those features are not covered here.

Steps to convert .ts to .mpg

Run HDTVtoMPEG2.exe
Set: Type=Mpeg2, Ext=.mpg, Max Size=5000
Click on Add button to add the .ts file you captured from the 6412
Video PID and Audio PID fields should be filled out. Enable the check mark right under Channel (named NONAME 0.1 for example) to select the appropriate Audio and Video streams to use.
Disable Show Progress Image and click on Process button to convert the .ts file to a .mpg file.
Exit the program.

I have vista 64bit,

I tried this program which was recommended by dvico, their fusion dual express tv tuner card..since their own program is supposed to convert HDTV .ts files to divx and mpeg4 but it doesnt work, there is no sound only video when it converts..

but on using hdtvTo mpeg2 there is no picture or sound when I try to play the file, I followed instructions exactly as stated here..

Their card/software is not so good either, when I schedule recording and come back to watch, the program has crashed is left hanging/stalled/freezed half way through the recording but the tv is still playing...very frustrating, and they have a terrible help forum..
waste of $200 bucks.. I can`t get a refund.

problems are
scheduled recording left hanging, frozen, not recording half way through, and converting .TS to divx or wmv through their converter has no sound..
