how can i save xpn.org 's played songs (just the name and artist), not actually ripping the music, so then i can sample the songs at a future date in playlist fashion in something like rhapsody.

I don't really know any players that you can use to create playlists.

You can use Shoutcast/Icecast stream rippers (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-audio-stream/mp3-audio-stream-rippers-grabbers-Download-live-Icecast-Shoutcast-compatible-radio-stations.htm) to rip music. And then you can create a playlist from the ripped songs.
