I have serious recording errors with Bit Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Bit-Recorder-Capture-RTMP-HTTP-audio-video-streams-from-Flash-player.htm) / FLV Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/FLV-Recorder-flash-video-stream-recording-software.htm).

The problem is that whenever i record a stream and save it (stop recording?) the resulting flv is a tiny file which doesn't play in anything. For example,a stream that used to be over 5MBs when recording ends up as a 100KB flv file.

* the packet capture does happen so its not a problem with the sniffer
* i tried live and on demand videos from various sites [youtube, stickam, yahoo, pbs etc] and everytime it was the same, converted file is corrupted.

is there any solution to this?

The following thread contains information on fixing FLV files:
Recording RTMP Webcams from cam4(HowTo record XXX/adult web-cam videos from cam4.com)

But I suggest to use Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-HTTP-RTMP-FLV-MP3-ripper-recorder.htm) or Jaksta (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Jaksta-Streaming-Media%20Recorder-and-Converter.htm) to record RTMP and HTTP streams from flash player.

replay downloads the stream by itself if i'm not mistaken,i gave replay a shot and it does works:D but its a waste as i normally watch the whole thing on the browser, and replay slows things down because its doing another download of the stream by it self...i will see what jaksta can do:)
but isn't there a fix to bitrecorder's problem? i tried copying the temp file but windows gives me an error saying its being used by another app(obviously).I'm gonna try and ask them whats going on

Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-HTTP-RTMP-FLV-MP3-ripper-recorder.htm) allows to capture HTTP packet from flash player. And you can use many other programs for that, one of them is freeware Ask & Record Toolbar (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Ask-Record-Toolbar-freeware-streaming-video-downloader-and-audio-recorder.htm).

The good thing about Bit Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Bit-Recorder-Capture-RTMP-HTTP-audio-video-streams-from-Flash-player.htm) is that it can capture RTMP streams from your flash player. But the problem is that I wasn't able to reach their support recently. I haven't noticed any improvements recently and the program really needs them to support more web-sites. That's why I suggested other programs.

no man it does a separate download independant of the browser, you can check it your self by blocking replay media catcher's internet access completely or just blocking it from connecting to the IPs of the site you visited.replay is gr8 for downloading more than one stream at a time, but in my case its a very inefficient tool *sigh* if only it did actual packet capture instead of what it does:o

if only bit recorder and flv recorder were open sourced...anyways i tried their "contact us" so i'll update IF i get a reply from them.my bet is that it can't understand the h264 streams and insted processes them as h263 or VP6 when converting them.

Sorry for the confusion. Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-HTTP-RTMP-FLV-MP3-ripper-recorder.htm) has a Web Stream Dumper plug-in that allows to capture packets from flash player, but it works with HTTP streams only.
