I've tried lots of antiviruses - DrWeb, AVG, Symantec, McAffee, Nod32...
I prefer to use Kaspersky Internet Security (http://all-streaming-media.com/non-streaming/Kaspersky-Internet-Security-Kaspersky-Anti-Virus.htm) 6.0. It is an integrated and comprehensive protection from all Internet threats. It protects from viruses, spyware, spam and privacy threats. Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 provides a holistic approach to security and deep integration ensures total protection.
Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 has won lots of awards and is recommended by many web-sites and magazines.
For a limited time you can Get a discount on Kaspersky Lab products (http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-1448936-10279523)

I still recommend Kaspersky Internet Security and Kaspersky Anti-Virus (http://all-streaming-media.com/non-streaming/Kaspersky-Internet-Security-Kaspersky-Anti-Virus.htm). Haven't seen any other antiviruses with hourly update.
But obviously there are no antiviruses that can find 100% of malware, spyware... So when you suspect something, especially if you have a free antivirus, you can upload your file to www.virustotal.com and check it with multiple antiviruses for FREE!

I caught a virus on my desktop recently. I scanned my computer with Dr.Web, but it didn't find anything. Then I found a suspicious file and uploaded it to virustotal:

Kaspersky detected it as Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Small.jze, Microsoft as Trojan:Win32/Oficla.B.dll. Other antiviruses found nothing!.
I submitted the suspicious file to Dr.Web, but it appeared it was in the database already. I was able to find the virus and remove it from my computer. It was a nasty virus, because it disabled registry editing and didn't allow me to see hidden files and folders. But the major problem was that I wasn't able to delete the file from my HDD even with unlocker! Thank god Dr.Web was updated and it was able to detect the virus.
After scanning my computer with Dr.Web I decided to check again with Kaspersky Anti-Virus (http://all-streaming-media.com/non-streaming/Kaspersky-Internet-Security-Kaspersky-Anti-Virus.htm) that protects my laptop. It found 8 more trojans and viruses on my computer.
I liked Dr.Web, NOD 32 and Symantec, but next time I will protect my computer only with Kaspersky (http://all-streaming-media.com/non-streaming/Kaspersky-Internet-Security-Kaspersky-Anti-Virus.htm) (especially after the fact that the developer of AVZ works for Kaspersky now) or something else.

It seems like the best solution is not to use an antivirus at all. Sounds stupid? Yes, if you use Windows.
But unlike Windows, Linux is a much safer operating system. In most cases you don't really need to install any antiviruses or firewall in Linux. While many of my friends suffer from viruses, I forgot about them since installing Ubuntu 9.10. Most software is still written for Windows, by I hardly use Windows XP on my virtual machine, because I found alternatives for most programs I used in Windows.
Sounds attractive? Don't be in a hurry to remove Windows completely. Just install Linux as a second operating system on your computer and see whether it is suitable for you.
