Hello,
I'm new to this forum and stream recording so be gentle. I have tabbed the majority of topics in this forum and actively digging through them but haven't seen anything related yet. More t read though. Is there any software that will crawl a URL and identify any links that point to a video stream then automatically grab the stream automatically similar to how some download managers will crawl a site looking for files of a specific type?
It would be nice if the stream could be recorded by a process that starts up in the background and doesn't really need to be 'played' on the desktop just fool the streamer into thinking it is. Maybe the streams could be recorded a couple at a time instead of single threaded.
Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Thanx a lot for a very interesting question.
Offline Explorer Pro (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/record-streaming-video-windows-media-and-real-video.htm#OEP) is an offline browser so it can download complete web-site (or selected directories and files). It supports Windows Media audio and video, Real Audio/Video streams as well as QuickTime HTTP streams. So it can download web-sites with or without streaming media content automatically. The only disadvantage is that it is rather pricey.
NetTransport (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/record-streaming-video-windows-media-and-real-video.htm#NetTransport) is a download manager. It supports the same media stream formats. And you may use its Site Explorer to download media streams from a directory or web-site semi-automatically.
WM Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/WMRecorder-One-click-online-audio-video-stream-recorder.htm) is a stream recorder supporting Windows Media, Real Audio/Video, Flash .FLV HTTP video streams and QuickTime HTTP streams. It can make automatical recordings, but in a different way. It can record the above mentioned streams automatically when you play them with a player or with an embedded player in a browser window.

Replay Media Catcher (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Replay-Media-Catcher-HTTP-RTMP-FLV-MP3-ripper-recorder.htm) can record streaming .FLV video and .MP3 audio streamed through the RTMP or HTTP protocol. The only thing you need to do to capture from embedded Macromedia flash player is to click "Start recording".
Replay Media Catcher also supports Windows Media, Real Audio/Video streams. All these streams are also downloaded automatically.

Bit Recorder (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Bit-Recorder-Capture-RTMP-HTTP-audio-video-streams-from-Flash-player.htm) can capture flash videos automatically.
Rip Tiger (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/Rip-Tiger-Capture-and-Convert-Web-Video-Streams.htm) can download/rip Windows Media, Real Audio/Video, Flash video streams automatically.
WebVideoCap (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/WebVideoCap-Freeware-stream-capture-software-for-HTTP-flash-RTSP-MMS-Windows-Media-streams.htm) can capture Windows Media and HTTP flash video streams automatically.

There are lots of streaming video recorders (http://all-streaming-media.com/record-video-stream/all-streaming-video-recording-software.htm) for Windows, but still I can't chose the best one that can record every possible stream. By the way, you may use Windows software on your Mac as well (you'll need Mac with Bootcamp, Parallels Desktop for Max OS X (http://all-streaming-media.com/non-streaming/Parallels-Desktop-for-Mac-OS-X-Run-Windows-simultaneously-with-Mac-OS-X.htm) or similar software).
Right now most problematic streams are RTMPE streams (from Adobe servers) and MovMediaPlayer streams. I recommend you to create a separate thread for every stream you can't record.
