So far I'm new to the majority of this. I mostly use Firefox's Download Helper and Flash Video Downloader to download videos, but some, particularly ones form local news sites, I just can't seem to download. Any tips in how I can go about and download videos like the ones on this page:

or these:

Thank you, but how do I make use of these? Do they work with ffmpeg(I barely installed it into my system and been watching some YouTube tutorials, but still am pretty green with it)?

Sure its also working with ffmpeg too.Just use what you do prefer.Just lern the different parameters you have to use for the commandline tools xy. :) Commands you can find on the release sites of the tools and or in the tool itself.Just open cmd and enter ffmpeg --help.
ffmpeg --help
or with path of ffmpeg if needed...
c:\...ffmpeg --help

Thanks to a advisable PM, I downloaded Livestreamer and was able to download the first of surya987's code lines worked fine(did the livestreamer "line of code" -p "filename.extension"). The second one kept giving me errors, saying "ad" and "ad.preroll" aren't recognized as an internal or external command, UNTIL I put quotation marks around the code(but after getting another error, put left "best" alone outside of the marks) and it worked.
Thank you, guys! You are all a godsend to this wet-behind-the-ears stream downloading noob!!:)
Only one question, where did you find the locations of these files? Particularly the second one. I tried the Ctrl+Shift+I thing and scanning through Web Console and couldn't find it anywhere.

Another option is to use rtmpdumphelper (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/rtmp_dump_helper.html), which automates the process so you don't need to manually type all of those different parameters.
I'm pretty new at this too and I find rtmpdumphelper really useful, but it doesn't work for every site. I think it is still valuable to download a sniffer, learn to use rtmpdump or ffmpeg, and learn to manually input the parameters. I'm still learning all of this myself. It's definitely not easy but I think the value of learning this stuff makes the hard work worth it.
