If that still doesnt work, then try to find a slightly older Rhapsody installer version.

So right now, at this point, you should uninstall Rhapsody, delete your DRM folder, reboot, then go to the individualization site, THEN reinstall rhapsody. Do this process with the current version of rhapsody, if it doesnt work, like I said, fnd a slightly older version of the installer.

p.s. - NOTE: About a year ago I switched from Rhapsody to Napster because I was unable to do the rollback fix on it. It forces users to upgrade. I am not sure if it is still forcing the upgrade. The way it used to force the upgrade is that it might leave WMP10 installed, but it would install WMP11 Runtime, which changes your IBX, so if the installer still does that, then this won't work with Rhapsody.
Thanks for your reply, but I tried exactly that and it still didn't work. The installer is doing exactly what you are describing. That is, installing WMP11 Runtime. No matter what I do, it forces me to install this before allowing me to play/download any tracks. I may give it one more shot just to make absolutely certain that I didn't miss a step. If it still doesn't work, I may have to look at switching to Napster.

One question about Napster, if you don't mind. Your instructions say to install the Napster plugin for WMP. Would this method work just as well with the full Napster client?

Thanks again for your response and help!

It will start in the Recover Keys mode now. Either way works. The first method is better, since it will automatically modify your blackbox.txt file.

Thanks for the reply milOtis, I was able to recover the keys, now I am having issues with fairusecommander. When I try to open the program it crashes and I get the mighty microsoft "send me an error message" popup. I've re-download and re-loaded and re-booted many times with no joy....any ideas? Thanks!!

Hi,

When I try create a new Napster account, I get this error message "We're sorry, Napster is not currently available in your country"

So is there any other way install this product, when you live in Finland?

This drm stuff is totally new for me, so I propably miss something there??

I've already mentioned that Napster is not required to use this fix.

Re: 2009-01-10 FairUse4WM DRM-Remover Fix (by milOtis)

I've followed all the steps of this fix (including deleting two files which prompted the response from Windows...and as advised, I ignored). When I try to individualize, I get an error "the specified module could not be found". (I also deleted the DRM folder...still get the same error.) Napster is also unable to configure...I'm not sure if this is related but I cannot access the network tab in WMP 10. Any suggestions?

Re: 2009-01-10 FairUse4WM DRM-Remover Fix (by milOtis)

Update: I repeated the steps and re-installed WMP 10. I am now able to access the network tab under WMP, however Napster isn't able to configure. It wants me to reset the DRM using one of their programs. Haven't done so yet (although I did this under my previous install of WMP 10...to no avail.) When I try to individualize WMP, the upgrade button on the Windows site is greyed out and I can't select it. So I am still stuck.

Re: 2009-01-10 FairUse4WM DRM-Remover Fix (by milOtis)

Sorry to be such a pest...but good news this time. I resolved the individualization problem by deleting the DRM folder and then re-loaded the web page. Once this took place, everything else unfolded as per your fix. Not sure why the problems occurred with my first install of WMP 10 but uninstalling and reinstalling seemed to help. Perhaps just a faulty install of WMP. (Note: I did not execute the reset DRM file that Napster suggested I run...I believe this problem was resolved by individualizing WMP.) Thanks very much!

You can actually use Napster in any country, you just have to have a USA, Canada, or UK IP address when installing and downloading your first song. So, before you do all those steps, download a program called "Hot Spot Shield" by AnchorFree Software. It is basically an IP changing software, and creates a VPN tunnel to a random IP address in the USA. Here is a their website where you can download it for free:

http://www.hotspotshield.com/

Make sure this is running and the icon is green (connected) in your system tray before starting on the steps for the fix. Go through the entire set of steps with this software running, and Napster will think you are in the USA. Once you download a song, and individualize your WMP, you can close and uninstall the Hot Spot Shield software if you like. Napster only checks your country on initial install and upgrades, but since the number one rule is NEVER upgrade, then you will only have to do this once.

Good luck

Re: 2009-01-10 FairUse4WM DRM-Remover Fix (by milOtis)

I'm back...

After successfully removing DRM from some files, FairUse4WM didn't work anymore (something about windows media interoperability). I uninstalled WMP10, deleted wmploc.dll and wmvcore.dll, deleted DRM subdirectory, rebooted and tried to reinstall WMP10. Was unsuccessful and received error "Microsoft Windows Media Configuration Utility has encountered a problem and needs to close." I repeated the whole process again and tried reinstalling WMP10--no success, then used WinRar and followed your instructions using the wmsetsdk.exe file...same problem with the configuration utility. Any suggestions?

If anything companies are strengthening their protection, like Zune forcing you to update to the latest WMP11, making their DRM uncrackable by FairUse4WM.

DRM is the livelyhood of subscription based download services. there is no way they are just going to throw their hands up and say "Oh well," and start giving stuff away uprotected. The majority of people who download DRM protected content, i.e. 99% of the people out there, have no clue how to crack DRM. Your statement about DRM being abandoned soon is false. Sure, it might not be WindowsMedia WMAs or Apple M4P's, but there will always be something until music, video and media stops being a craze; which is unlikely to happen in the near future.
I would like to remove drm from Overdrive Media (audiobooks) files, but like Zune, Overdrive requires WMP11. Does this mean my only option is to use one of the copier/recorder programs such as Tunebite or Note Burner? That I will be unable to use your method with FairUse4WM? I currently have version 11.0.6000.6324 installed. Does your 'version 11.0.5497.6285' work with Overdrive Media? Thanks, Bunneykins (newbie)
